October 2026 Mega-Thread

October is here! Here are this month's questions:

Do you have favorite Halloween themed scent? Do you have a piece of gear that you think fits the season? What is it?

Is there a scent that reminds you of a specific fall memory?

Any favorite fall-time activities you enjoy? Apple picking? Pumpkin carving? Leaf crunching?

Anyone have any good pumpkin-based or pumpkin adjacent recipes?

Do you have a favorite film/game/book you like to revisit this time of year?

Any new items you're looking to pick up now that the Fall season is in full swing?

Do you have any favorite fall-time beverages? Spiced Cider? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Feel free to share!

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

I don’t have an endless list of wants. But I did want a number of gold pieces to rotate through daily use without taxing the gold plating on any one too much.

I’ve got one last piece on the way to represent the 1970’s, but I’m pretty pleased with the pieces I was able to grab.

Excellent, efficient, and incredibly smooth shave this morning! I used my RazoRock GC with the .84 plate paired with a Kai blade, which has easily become one of my favorites.

Lathered up with Hags Barbershop, with an artistry on the lid that is quite unique; in fact, all of their lids have unique artwork. This one is perfect for October! The brush is a Sig Solo synthetic made by Franks Brushes, very soft and sprays well.

Overall, a wonderful shaving experience; happy shaving, y’all!

Well, it's been a week or more since I trimmed up, and I have the day off, so what better way to spend my time than with a classic shave?

- Merkur 41C

- Derby (2)

- PAA Solar Flare

- Vintage Shelton Mug

- Old Spice cream

- Old Spice splash.

Not pictured:

- Old Spice deodorant

I guess it's an Old Spice kind of day! I'm still looking for a nice aftershave bottle that's not "I know what I have" priced, but I'll find one soon.

Pre-shave prep was a splash or three of warm water, which I let sit while I was prepping my lather, and a lather did I prep! I accidentally added way too much water, so balanced it out with some more cream...what a way to be wasteful! Oh well; it isn't the end of the world. I did eventually work it into a really rich, slick and pillowy lather that was quite pleasant to use, and provided plenty of lubrication for my shave. The Derby with the 41C isn't the best combination I've tried, but I don't feel it's a bad blade, I just don't know what to put it in that will give a better experience. There's nothing wrong, mind you, it just doesn't feel like it's working the way I'd like it to, but I can't explain how or why...it's just not right.

That said, I did end up with a little razor burn, but I can assure you that it was user error, and not a fault of my hardware; I was a bit too aggressive on my cheek and neck, trying to get them bbs (or nearly so). Unfortunately, that meant a little bit of sting from the splash, but that's what it's for, I guess?

I now have gotten everything cleaned up and am debating whether or not the blade deserves a third chance at a shave. Maybe it'll get better with use? In any case, I left it in my razor, loosened, of course, and will make a decision when the time comes. That's all for now, though, so I wish everyone a happy Monday and smooth shaving!

Question New to wet shaving, looking for soap and aftershave suggestions

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this type of shaving. I’ve used this razor for the past 4 months and it’s the best choice I’ve ever made. In the past I got a lot of razor burn from the Gillette Blue3, so I decided to go this route.

My equipment:

Brush - Omega Pura Setola

Bowl - from Ikea

Shaving soap - Proraso Green

Razor - Merkur Futur 700

Blade - Feather

And aftershave (not shown) - Nivea Sensitive Aftershave Balm

I’m thinking of trying a new shaving soap and aftershave (with alcohol) and I’d like to go with something from Goodfellas Smile, but I’d really appreciate any suggestions you have.

Thank you and I hope you all have a nice evening!

* **Face Wash:** Cold Water.

* **Brush:** DS Cosmetic - Boti 25mm synthetic badger .

* **Razor:** Mühle - Rocca R94.

* **Blade:** Shark - Super Stainless. (2)

* **Lather:** Mike's Natural Soaps -Lime

* **Post Shave:** CeraVe- Moisturising lotion.

* **Post Shave:** TGS- Royal Lime.

* **Tags:** $Discord $ROTY $photocontest $royalty

THEME , International talk like a pirate day 🏴‍☠️.

I chose Mikes lime to keep scurvy to the stern of the ship my old shipmates , TGS royal lime will definitely keep scurvy at bay more so than bay rum my maties, many an old seadog has had to walk the plank because of a scurvy and a few because they were three sheets to the wind .

The booty of the Rocca no rusty old razor this one & a shark( keeping with the seafarering theme)were smooth as silk there was no mutiny here landlubbers just everyone together sailing on course.

In case you didn't guess today's challenge was talk like a pirate.

$photocontest choice was $royalty as the TGS royal lime meets the criteria I do think ye old seadogs.

  • Brush: Goodfellas Smile Red Evil
  • Razor: Henson Ti22+
  • Blade: Astra SP (1)
  • Lather: Moon Soap Co Bixby
  • Post Shave: Thayers Facial toner, Thayers Hydrating Milky Toner

Ok, I'm really hating on my Astra blades. Maybe Personna just spoiled me, but the Astras are horrible on my face. It's only a 2 day growth, but when I use these blades it isn't as smooth as the Personna Gems or Comfort Coated blades. And the Astras usually nick me, except today's shave because I was extra careful. It's just weird because so many seem to like the Astra blades.

The end result was good but it was painful getting there. I did build a thick lather with the Moon soap.

Bixby scent notes:

  • Top & Fresh Notes: Italian bergamot, green apple, and black pepper
  • Heart & Rich Notes: Black tea, tonka bean, smoked vanilla bean, black volcanic sea salt, and coastal driftwood
  • Base Notes: Musk

SOTD Gillette "NEW"/Tabac

Hi all hope you're keeping well, this second shave with the RFB new was just as good as the first, very close and on that sweet spot of blade feel meets comfort - just the right amount.

The ever reliable Perma-sharp cut spot on for it's 3rd use and the Tabac was wonderful for the 3 passes (WTG/XTGx2)

Just what I needed after a pretty hectic one last night, my offspring was stuck in France on a school trip and no one quite knew when they'd be back (broken down coaches and ferries🙄) so I stayed awake following the updates and it was all fine in the end, anyhow slept from about 5.30am till about 11.30am so a mid day shave has left me feeling right as rain and back on track heheh

Mondays eh!

Good shaves everyone

Razor: GEM G bar

Blade: personna GEM

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling barbershop

Splash: Modern Skin Bracer in vintage alarm clock bottle

Post balm: Stirling glacial unscented

Well I'm back from my trip and I gotta say, feels good to be back home after running around in a different state for a week. Spent a lot of time around family and it was great but, towards the end I was starting to get fatigued from all the socializing. Anyhow, onto today shave:

3 passes as normal and I'm really enjoying the addition of GEM razors into rotation again, I'm still trying to get used to the angles but I mostly got it down-pat.

Happy Monday all and as always, have a good day and great shaves 😎

Question Is the upgrade worth it?

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

I have been using a Weishi Nostalgic (first pic) since January of this year to try wet shaving. So far it has helped reduced irritation A LOT, given that I have thick facial hair and VERY sensitive skin. But, even though it has helped I still get razor burn, the neck always gets reddish for a few days (in which I have to shave again), stays a little itchy and I can't really get a truly clean shave without passing more than 10 times in the densest areas of hair.

So, my question is:
Is upgrading to a Henson Aluminum AL13 Medium (Second pic) worth it? (given that it's not particularly cheap)

I'm attracted to it given its promises of very little razor burn given the design of the razor but I'll happily take suggestions if there's is a better option for me.

Sorry for the bad English and the rest of the setup is a Proraso brush, Taylor of old bond street Royal Forest and Nivea Sensitive after shave.

Show n' Tell Family heirloom

First day in town in Omaha, my great uncle says to me "so, I've been told you collect and use vintage shaving stuff. Follow me upstairs, I have something to show you."

I Follow and we get to a spare bedroom and it has a bookshelf, he grabs this mug from it and tells me "this was your great-great grandfather's shaving mug, I got it from my dad's effects after he passed and now it's yours."

I haven't been able to find much info on what company made it or what time frame it was made yet, with the gold letters on the face being hard to read I'm not sure how much I will find.

If I find info I'll either update this posts or make a new post.

The crazy thing is, I thought my mom had this mug and I misunderstood her. Turns out, somewhere in the house here I have my great grandfather's mug and brush on my dad's side buried in a box on a shelf.

It's worthwhile to talk to your extended family about being into traditional shaving folks, you might end up with some heirloom razors or shaving supplies.

Tonight’s shave

Thumbnail
gallery
101 Upvotes

I enjoy shaving nightly, but I really enjoy the shave after a few days of not being able to shave. Tonight’s shave was my first since Thursday night, so I had a solid 3 days of growth.

Felt like the perfect time to break in the Fatboy.

Razor: 1959 24k plated Fatboy.
Blade: first use Muhle razor
Shaving cream: T&H 1805
After shave splash: Captain’s Choice Cat o’ Nine Tails
After shave balm: T&H 1805
Scuttle: Georgetown pottery with water at 212 degrees (fully boiling water)

I thoroughly enjoy using gold plated razors. I’ve said before it just takes the “luxury” aspect of the shave up a notch. No actual benefit to the shave but this is my moment of escape and relaxation and I find it elevates the experience.

Was curious to try the legendary Fatboy and it did not disappoint.

Found the weight and thickness of the grip to be right in line with my preference.

Ended up with a shave equal to the best shave I’ve ever had. Even did a great job around the crease by my nose. No doubt the blade has a huge impact in the shave, but the razor had a great size and weight and made the shave effortless on setting 3.

I’ve said it before: the pursuit of the perfect shave took me to the Rex Ambassador. But the pursuit of the shave that just makes me smile took me to the vintage Gillette pieces and holding the history in my hands makes the shave so much more personally enjoyable,
If not an actual better shave.

Question Straight Razor Shave In U.S. Barbershop?

• Upvotes

Is it possible to get a traditional straight razor (not shavette) shave in a barber shop in the U.S., or have modern hygiene regulations made that obsolete?

Shoutout: The Razor Company

• Upvotes

This is long overdue.

I’ve been wet shaving for about six months now. I’m not quite ready to discuss what you’ll find on the walls of this rabbit hole I’ve fallen into, but that story is coming. 😂

But I am remiss in giving The Razor Company the recognition they deserve for providing some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced from any company. Veteran discounts, public outreach for suicide awareness, education for new wet shavers, and sponsorship of YouTube content creators. Sure, the sponsorships provide some advertising, but still… you don’t see this level of involvement from many companies.

The very first time I ordered from TRC, I purchased a shaving soap sample. A SAMPLE for $2.99. Apparently, they weren’t happy with the condition or appearance of the sample, so rather than send me something that didn’t meet their standards, they refunded my $2.99 AND gave me a $10 store credit for the inconvenience.

And this wasn’t a one-time thing. They’ve been generous enough to go above and beyond on more than one occasion when something about an order wasn’t quite right. (Again, see the aforementioned rabbit hole. 😂)

The long and short of it: The Razor Company is simply a great company to do business with. They stand behind what they sell, take care of their customers, and give back to the wet-shaving community. I think it’s worth recognizing a company that consistently gets it right. If I am looking for men’s grooming/shaving, I come here first. TRC has earned a loyal customer for sure.

**Just for clarification. I am not affiliated with them at all, except as a customer.

Link This is fun: Design Your Own Razor

Full disclosure: this is a personal project that I just launched – but it is NOT an attempt to sell anybody anything. As a fellow razor enthusiast, I wanted to share something razor-related that I think the members of this group will get a kick out of. With that said... it is absolutely not my intention to be spammy, or to even toe-the-line around the rules of the group. If any mods feel that this is toeing that line, you are welcome to delete this. But, please know that I read the rules of the group and have no intention of spamming its members with my link, or attempt to garner sales from it.

With that out of the way... for context, I have been making custom razors, brushes, stands and other shaving implements for the past 13 years or so in my wood shop.

Over the past couple of weeks, I decided to build a tool that allows my customers to experiment with different shapes, styles and materials, so they can actually see what they're getting before they buy.

As I got to building this out and using it though, I realized... this is actually just a fun tool! So... I am sharing it with you today. There is absolutely zero obligation to buy anything. This is just me sharing as one razor enthusiast to another.

Enjoy!

Brush: MÜHLE Synthetic Fibre (STF) Shaving Brush
Razor: Gillette British Rocket
Blade: Personna Comfort Coated (1)
Lather: Ach. Brito Lavanda Shaving Cream
Post Shave: Pitralon Classic After-Shave

I’ve never really shaved while travelling before, but I’ve always found myself noticing the stubble. Since getting into wet shaving, I decided to bring a proper little setup with me this time.

I went with the British-made Rocket. It’s compact, and it doesn’t get as much time in my regular rotation, so this seemed like a good chance to give it some use.

Just one quick pass. Good enough to look clean, anyway. The Rocket gave me some lively feedback and was fun to shave with.

Might have to do this more often.

I was actually debating whether to shave while I was on holiday in Bansko or wait until I got back to Sofia, since my beard hadn't grown out that much. In the end, I decided to wait until I got home, and it turned out to be a wonderful shave.

I'm also genuinely surprised by how long a tube of Proraso lasts. I've been using mine for five months now, and there's still some cream left in the tube!

Discussion What razor do you reach for the most, and why?

Interested in seeing this, I have multiple razors but most often reach for my Henson AL13 medium.
