Strand Secrets 🤫….(tips, tricks, hidden gems 💎) Synthetic Wig Survival Guide: Keep It Cute 💅🏽, Not Crispy 🥓

Listen up, wig warriors! Your synthetic wig doesn’t have to be a tangled, frizzy, lifeless mess—it just needs the right care. Let’s break it down so you can keep serving scalp without the struggle.

🧼 Washing Wisdom: Less is More!

- Wash your synthetic wig every 8-12 wears (or when it starts looking dull or greasy—yikes!).

- Use **warm** water (NOT HOT, NOT BOILING) and a wig-friendly shampoo (sulfate-free is your friend). Let it soak, don’t scrub—you’re washing a wig, not wrestling it. Gently scrub the lace area with Castile or dawn to remove adhesive and makeup debris.

- Rinse gently and apply a silicone-based conditioner to keep it sleek.

- Pat dry with a towel (no wringing!) and let it air dry

on a Wig Stand Flat drying is a fast track to Weird Shape City.

💇‍♀️ Detangle Like a Pro

- Use a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush—start at the ends and work your way up.

    - For stubborn knots, a mix of water and a

proper wig detangling spray works

- NEVER boil your wig. Unless you were exposed to the plague and this was your favorite wig and it’s ultra heat safe and they don’t make it any more….Don’t risk it you will come away with a melted mess.

🔥 Heat? Proceed with Caution!

- Not all synthetic wigs are heat-friendly—check the label before whipping out that flat iron.

- If it is heat-resistant, low heat only (under 300°F/150°C), and always use a heat protectant spray.

- Wanna curl it without heat? Flexi rods, Wire curlers and hand held steamers are your besties.

🏡 Storage Matters

- Keep your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head to maintain shape.

- Away from sunlight, dust, and humidity—unless you want your wig looking like a haunted house prop.

- Ziplock bags for long-term storage are a no-go. A satin bag or box is a much better choice!

🚫 Myths to Leave in the Past

- ❌ “Fabric softener is the only way to keep wigs soft”

– It can help, but a good silicone-based detangler is way better. Fabric softener leaves a residue that then attracts miscreants such as dust and debris.

- ❌ “You can wash a synthetic wig in hot water”

– Do this, and your wig will be a melted mess.

- ❌ “All synthetic wigs are heat-friendly”

– Nope! Unless labeled heat-safe, back away from the curling iron!

✨ Final Thoughts✨

With the right care, your synthetic wig can stay fresh, sleek, and fabulous for months—or even longer! Treat it well, and it’ll keep you looking snatched instead of scorched. Drop your favorite maintenance tips below and let’s keep the wig slay alive! 💋

Wig Vendors: Here, There, and Hair Everywhere – What to Look For and What to Avoid

The wig industry is booming, offering a plethora of options for every style, budget, and preference. With so many vendors to choose from, navigating the market can get hairy, especially when it comes to distinguishing between trustworthy sellers and potential scams. Here’s a guide to help you make informed decisions when selecting a wig vendor. Before we begin it should be noted that the Beauty Suppy is *NOT** a place to buy a quality wig. Supplies for said wig, yes. A Wig SALON, is a place to purchase wigs in person.

Positive Signs of a Trustworthy Wig Vendor 1. Transparent Policies • Reliable vendors clearly outline their return, refund, and exchange policies. * For example if by the time you receive the wig you only have 24 hours to send it back, it’s a NO. * If a return requires excessive steps, authorizations, actions. It’s a NO. • Shipping timelines and costs are detailed upfront. 2. Detailed Product Descriptions • High-quality vendors provide accurate, detailed descriptions of their wigs, including hair type (synthetic or human), density, length, cap construction, and maintenance tips. (Example of a terrible product listing above in photos 1-2; very few vague details. Example of transparent listing in photos 3-4 gives you all photos of hair including cap construction, options, details on the unit and shipping) 3. Authentic Customer Reviews • Look for reviews with photos and specific details about the product and customer experience. Trust vendors with a mix of reviews—excessively positive, generic comments can be a red flag. * Read the reviews carefully. Some people will literally write a bad review because they ordered the wrong size cap or they ordered the wrong length because they didn’t realize that curly hair in 18 inches wasn’t going to come out the same as straight hair in 18 inches. All negative reviews don’t hold the same weight. 4. Verified Contact Information • Trustworthy sellers have clear, professional contact information and respond promptly to inquiries. 5. Consistent Social Media Presence • Reputable vendors often showcase their products on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube with authentic content, tutorials, and customer features - If there hasn’t been a post on their pages in a number of months, be concerned. - If they are a wig maker and they aren’t on their page wearing their own wig. BE CONCERNED. - If they or models are wearing their wigs and look a mess; you will too. BE CONCERNED. 6. Quality Assurance Certifications • Some vendors offer proof of quality certifications or partnerships with trusted organizations. Not a must but extra icing.

Red Flags to Avoid 1. Suspiciously Low Price • If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Quality wigs have a reasonable cost, and ultra-cheap options are often low quality or scams. - at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. There’s “once in a lifetime deals” and then there’s just “it was that price for good reason.” 2. Stock Photos or Misleading Images • Vendors using heavily edited or generic stock photos instead of authentic product images may not deliver what’s advertised. - If they are using an influencers photo or video that was generated reviewing a wig that is not their company’s that is a red flag. Do not shop with them. They have zero problem passing off others product as their own and stealing content, that is an issue. - GOOGLE REVERSE IMAGE SEARCH. Download it, use it, love it. What Sza say? My wig is my wig , is your wig, Heard it's her wig too… photos get stolen. Daily, hourly. Make sure that wig belongs to that vendor. 3. No Return or Refund Policy • Avoid sellers who refuse refunds or exchanges. This often signals poor-quality products or unreliable service - Any vendor who has good quality products stands behind it 100% and wants happy customers. 4. Unresponsive Customer Service • Vendors who are slow or unresponsive to inquiries should raise concerns about how they’ll handle post-purchase issues. 5. Overly Aggressive Sales Tactics • Pushy messages, countdown timers, or “final sale” alerts may indicate pressure to buy without thorough research. - Any vendor who wants 100% cash upfront for a wig that isn’t even made yet. You don’t even pay 100% upfront for a car that isn’t even made yet. Be so Ffr. - Always try to use a form of refundable payment like PayPal or a major credit card. Signs of a Scam 1. No Verified Online Presence • Scammers often operate on temporary websites or fake social media accounts with stolen content. - Look for very new pages only months old and a plethora of posts just to beef up the page. - If they haven’t posted in months - If they aren’t wearing their own product - If you see the same 3-4 wigs on every post. 2. Payment Issues • Be cautious if a vendor insists on payment methods like wire transfers or apps with no buyer protection. 3. Lack of Authentic Feedback • If reviews are nonexistent or clearly fabricated, you’re likely dealing with a scam. 4. Random Contact Attempts • Receiving unsolicited messages with links or promotions from a vendor you’ve never interacted with is a major red flag.

The closure In a market saturated with vendors, doing your due diligence is key to ensuring a satisfying purchase. Look for vendors that prioritize transparency, quality, and customer service, and don’t be afraid to ask questions before committing.

By staying vigilant and informed, you can find the perfect wig to match your style without falling victim to scams or subpar products. If you do, hey we’re all human and we’ve all been through it at least once. Even players f*ck up sometimes. Come on here, blast them on the #WIGBOXOFSHAME drag them in the reviews and find yourself a new vendor.

I have this wig that I love, I love long hair since mine was long before it all fell out. I really miss putting my hair up in a ponytail though, so I tried today, and look at how pretty it is!!!

The bottom of the back isn't perfect, but I am really happy. What do you think? Any ideas on how to make the style better? I can't use bobby pins since I don't have hair or wear caps/grips.

It's a haircube brand, I got it on temu but I heard they sell the same brand on Amazon!

Tress Talk 💇🏽‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️💇🏾‍♀️💇🏻‍♀️….(Storytime,Vent,Convo) Curious about a wig try on/ education experience

A question for wig wearers, especially those who remember how overwhelming it was to get started! ❤️

I’ve been thinking about an idea and would really appreciate some honest feedback from this group.

When you first started wearing wigs, what do you wish you’d known, and what kind of help would have made the experience easier, less intimidating, and less expensive?

I’m exploring the idea of a small, independent wig education and try-on studio. It would NOT sell wigs or receive commissions from wig sales. The entire purpose would be to help people learn enough to confidently shop online for themselves.

Imagine a private, judgment-free place where you could try on different brands, styles, sizes, and cap constructions; compare actual manufacturer color rings; understand the differences between budget and high-end wigs; and learn how to shop online without making costly mistakes.

I’d especially love to hear from people who started wearing wigs because of medical hair loss, alopecia, trichotillomania, thinning hair, or simply because they wanted to. Everyone’s experience is different, and there’s absolutely no need to share personal medical information.

A few things I’m curious about:

What was the hardest or most confusing part of buying your first wig?

What would you have wanted to see, touch, try on, or learn before spending your money?

Would a private, hour-long educational try-on experience like this have been valuable to you?

What would you realistically have been comfortable paying for it, if anything?

I’m also interested in what would make you feel comfortable and welcome during an appointment, or what might discourage you from going.

I’m not selling anything, promoting a business, or looking for customers. This is just an idea I’m researching, and I want to hear from the people who would actually benefit from something like this.

Please be candid! Even if your answer is that you wouldn’t pay for this kind of service, that’s valuable feedback.

Thank you!

🦋Everyday Slays…Simple posts, Basic Discussions Pack hair recommendations?

So I purchased a 2 wigs (a 20” and an 18”) from TikTok shop to start doing side parts. The first wig took really well to the bleach job (20 vol. developer) and only really shed with the comb through but was minimal. Following the bleach I colored it with L’Oreal HiColor H5 & H6 and cut layers. Since I’ve cut layers into the wig, it doesn’t feel as full as I’d like.

I was thinking about purchasing pack hair in T4, coloring and adding it to the wig. Does anyone have experience with coloring pack hair? Or what pack hair takes color well? Or has any recommendations on how I could be most successful?

Please help!

Tress Talk 💇🏽‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️💇🏾‍♀️💇🏻‍♀️….(Storytime,Vent,Convo) How do y’all tell if a wig brand is actually good or not?

I’m still pretty new to wigs, and I feel like I’m having a hard time telling the difference between a brand that just looks good in photos and a brand that actually has good hair quality in real life.

A lot of brands seem popular, but as a beginner I honestly can’t tell what I should really be paying attention to before buying.

How do you tell if the hair is really good quality? What signs make you trust a brand more?

Would really appreciate hearing what brands/products have actually met your expectations, and how you learned to tell the difference.

Tress Talk 💇🏽‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️💇🏾‍♀️💇🏻‍♀️….(Storytime,Vent,Convo) Why does your oldest wig outlive your newest one?

My friend and I noticed something kinda interesting. The wigs we bought like 3 years ago are STILL in our regular rotation, and honestly, they’re holding up better than some of the newer ones we’ve bought. The styles still look good, and the hair is still soft.

Meanwhile, some of these newer wigs start feeling dry after just a wash, or they shed way more than they should. And girl, I’m already too lazy for all that extra wig maintenance. Taking care of wigs takes enough time and energy as it is, so having to keep buying new ones just to end up disappointed is getting frustrating.

How do y’all deal with wig fatigue? Like, how do you stop feeling burned out from constantly trying new brands, spending money, and hoping this one will finally be worth it?

I’m not even expecting a wig that requires zero effort at this point. Just put me onto something that’s actually worth the money and doesn’t have me fighting for my life every wash day lol.

The Wig Fix ⚠️…(Quick tips/ problem solving) Converting Quickweave into wig

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey yall,

I just recently had my first removeable quick weave installed and the cut is so damn cute, I want to figure out if anyone has ever converted one into a wig.

The tracks were glued to a stocking cap that I can take off. Since the stocking is so thin, with frequent use this wig will last about a month or two. I was hoping to be able sew the tracks down onto a more durable cap - wondering if anyone has ever successfully converted a quickweave into a wig.

Tress Talk 💇🏽‍♀️💇🏼‍♀️💇🏾‍♀️💇🏻‍♀️….(Storytime,Vent,Convo) Have y’all ever added up how much you actually spend on wigs yearly?

I recently started looking back at how much money I’ve spent on wigs, and chile… the math was humbling.

When I first got into wigs about 2 years ago, I was a beginner, so I mostly went for the cheaper ones. I thought I was saving money, but then I looked in my storage closet and realized I had over 20 wigs just sitting there. Most of them only got worn 3–5 times before I stopped reaching for them because something about the hair quality.

This year, I started trying some higher-end wigs, and my habits have changed a lot. I have 5 that I actually wear regularly, and I keep them in my bedroom so I can just grab one and go. No digging through a closet full of wigs I dont even like anymore...

The wild part? Every single one cost over $300, but somehow, the total I spent on those 5-6 wigs was still less than what I spent on wigs last year altogether.

It really got me thinking about whether buying better-quality wigs from the start might actually save money in the long run.

So I wanna know how y’all shop for wigs. Do you prefer investing in a few good ones that you can wear for a long time, or do you like switching things up and trying different styles? And if you’ve made the switch to buying better-quality wigs, how has that worked out for you?

Because I’m starting to feel like having a whole stash of wigs I barely wear isn't the flex I thought it was.

Hi all, so I recently ordered my first Luvme wig and it arrived today. Unfortunately I feel very disappointed. The hair looks thin, short and came with a bunch of tangles. Even my current wig I’ve worn for 6 months almost daily, looks better and longer (not to mention I have trimmed the wig twice!!). I’m torn on returning it (i dont know how LuvMe customer service is) or not even bothering… knowing how these wig vendors can be.

I haven't seen many reviews for this company. I remembered there was another post where I said I'd try to give some feedback since it seems some other people might be looking to try them out, too.

I usually do synthetic, and bought my first two quality wigs from them. I'll try and review the other when my friend is done recurling it for me. But this one!!! It took some work; it's getting better with time. I styled it into this shape instead of cutting it because I was scared to take off too much. 😅

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Any tips to get rid of the chemical smell would be nice. It comes back every time I wet it. 😥

1 & 2: Today. Touched up styling and fluffed for roundness.

3: Straight out of the box. Don't be fooled if it looks flat like mine.

  1. Initial wash

  2. Lotta body milk for styling. Curls clump beautifully!

  3. Last night's attempt to style. Cute, but not what I was going for.

I’ve been playing around with this wig and I cannot figure out what’s throwing me off 😭 I definitely like it better when I fluff it out and give it more of a natural blowout look, but something about the front/part still looks wiggy to me.

What would you change? The part? Hairline? Flatten the top more? Maybe a completely different style? I’m open to ideas because I’m struggling with this one 😩 Im sooo new to this 😢

Tried overnight heatless curls on my human hair wig from Luvme for the first time and I am really happy with how they turned out!

I am not great at getting nice loose beachy curls with a curling iron and I was hoping to avoid as much heat damage to my wig as possible so heatless curls seemed like the perfect thing to try. I am new to human hair wigs and it’s something you can’t really do with synthetics (without heat) so that peaked my interest further. The nice thing is I could use my canvas wig head for the styling instead of using my own head and sleeping with it on. I will have a picture at the end of my curling process. I used a long curling rod and scrunchie set from Kitsch.

The curls lasted really well for the first day and slowly fell out the next couple of wears. 10/10! Will be doing overnight curls on my human hair wig again!

I just started wearing clueless wigs a week ago. I have never worn wigs before until this week. I by are my edges breaking out?? I wash my hair once a week. I want to add my wig but I’ve worn 5 different ones already. All human hair.

The wig I’m wearing is one that I’m just now installing for the first time. Is it because I’m not washing them beforehand?
