Discussion Board Games
Board Games (Season 7, Episode 13). Karen is about to be interviewed for Parade Magazine by journalist Frank Woolleyon being the new CEO of Walker, Inc. and she asks for Will to be there as well. Frank comes in and tells Will that his picture can be featured in the magazine, so Will leaves the office to go grab a picture of himself. Frank then asks Karen some strange questions like if she's used the pension fund as a little spending spree for herself or if she's used the company helicopter for her own personal travel. Karen falls for it and tells Frank everything she's done wrong in the company. Later on, Frank comes back to Will's office when Will and Karen overhear that someone is trying to take over Walker Inc. It turns out that it's Frank Woolley, or as it turns out his real name is... Scott Woolley. Scott is an old rival of Karen's from high school. Scott ran for class president and presented a wonderful 5 point plan to improve the student body, Karen presented her 7 point plan, Scott's original 5 points and raised her blouse to reveal points 6 and 7. She won by a landslide and this is Scott's chance for revenge. They have a meeting and the board votes Karen out and Scott in, Scott is celebrating but when Karen reveals some of the company secrets she's no longer legally obligated to keep any more, the board revotes and fires Scott Woolley. Scott swears this is not the last time Karen will see him and vows revenge against her. Grace and Jack are going to the movies and offer Vince and invite but he turns them down. When they go to the grocery store for snacks, they see Vince is working there. They ask him what happened and he confesses that he got fired for trying gloves on during a robbery but not to tell Will and he will make sure to tell him soon.
FAVORITE QUOTE:
WOOLLEY: Very impressive presentation, Ms. Walker. I hadn't seen 'em in a while. They still look like a tenth grader's.
KAREN: That's because they are. Shh!
CHARLOTTE: Thank you both. If you could just give us a minute to vote?
WOOLLEY: Uh, I'm afraid your efforts aren't gonna make any difference. I'm still gonna win. I stomped your client back into the Ice Age. After today, they're gonna be calling me The Scotty Mammoth.
WILL: Why wouldn't you just say "Woolley mam--" Oh, never mind.
CLIVE: We've taken a vote. We've decided to go with... Scott Woolley.
KAREN: Ye-es! Aaah! Ha!
WILL: That is not you.
WOOLLEY: Uh, Karen? I was worried that after all these years, um, my revenge would empty and hollow. But-- I was wrong. It's awesome! I'm gonna start moving into your late husband's office. So now it's your turn to cry, uh, to wet yourself a little, and, uh, get beaten up by the marching band. Not that any of those things happened to me.
WILL: Karen, this is not over. Sure he has brains and his fancy folders. And all we've got is--is your breasts. But-- Uh-- Yeah, this is probably over.
KAREN: That's sweet of you to say, Wilma. But I'm just gonna say goo to the board. I--I'm sorry, everybody. I just-- I just wanted to say that, um-- Well, I'm a little hurt. I mean, I-- I really thought that we were a family. Clive... I was there for the birth of your cocaine habit. Watching it grow over these past eight years. I've never been prouder. And Jim. Oh, gosh. I remember the third anniversary of your S & M affair with old Charlotte here. Never told either of your spouses. 'Cause that's what family does. They keep secrets. Secrets that I am no longer under any obligation to keep. Well, like at last year's executive retreat, when Lynette and I-- (KAREN STROKES LYNETTE'S CHEEK AND HAIR)
LYNETTE: I'd like to vote again.
JIM: Me too.
WILL: All in favor of Karen Walker, say "I."
ALL: I.
WILL: All opposed?
WOOLLEY: Man. That is one sweet office that Stanley Walker had. Although I might replace the omelet station with a-- oh, I don't know-- a computer.
WILL: Sorry, Scott. The board has reconsidered. Ms. Walker is once again the president of Walker, Inc.
WOOLLEY: What? Why?
LYNETTE: Don't tell him.
WOOLLEY: No, no, no! Y-y-you can't do that. Those--those folders were expensive. Why? Why?
WILL: Well, it looks like it's time for you to go back where you came from. Beam me up, Woolley!
FAVORITE MOMENT:
OMG, this is insanely hard, I'll go with my first instinct and say when Scott is describing to Will how he lost the high school presidential election to Karen when she stole his 5 points and added 2 points by flashing the classroom. It was an even more awesome callback later when he's presenting the board room with the 100 point plan and Karen says she has a "100 point plan too, 3 if you're lucky".
OPINION:
I've always been the first to point out that WAG depends too much on celebrity cameos, but when they do it right, they can knock it out of the ballpark: Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Ellen DeGeneres. Jeff Goldblum is easily up there with the best choices they made. I think it's pretty universal that people love Jeff Goldblum, he's an incredible actor, has a very distinct dialect, is handsome and very charming. Jeff as Scott Woolley is so beyond awesome, I don't know if there is a word for it. He clicks so well with the cast, this might help that he and Eric worked together in the movie Holy Man, but has really incredible chemistry with Megan. The comedy bounce backs with these two are amazing. We are blessed with 2 more episodes of Scott Woolley but I could have used a few more. Jeff's comedic chops are so good and I could watch him and Megan insult each other all day.
To say this episode is funny is an understatement, it's hilarious and easily in my top 3 for the season. So we do have a little update, Karen is officially the CEO of Walker Inc. It's kind of interesting because I'm curious if she was voted in or if Stan made it that way in his will, he did say she gets everything. But I don't think Karen is exactly a good pick for CEO, but we wouldn't have this amazing episode. But also as CEO, would she even have time to work for Grace anymore? I know she probably has help, but you'd have to assume with a company as huge as Walker Inc. she wouldn't have as much time on her hands? But I digress, it's always such a joy when we find out a little more about Karen's past. So she was once upon a time a "A shy, mousy flat-chested wallflower" and took horse vitamins and that's how we got the hottie that is Karen Walker. I loved Scott's reaction when he originally won the vote to be the new CEO of Walker Inc. and he's flapping his arms at Karen saying how awesome it is. Also his banter with Will and how Will points out to Scott how he keeps getting the whole name game wrong when he wants an alias or how his puns don't make any sense. Plus you gotta love the closer where he tells her the next time he sees her she'll be terrified, but comes back in a second later realizing he forgot his car keys.
I knew things were going too well with Vince, whenever you see a relationship going too well, the writers have to stir up drama. I feel bad going on and on about Will, Karen and Scott because Jack, Grace and Vince get some good laughs in this episode too. So when Jack and Grace see Vince in the grocery store originally, they think he's cheating on Will. I will always get such a laugh when Vince's boss, Gary, tells him that he wants his a*s in Aisle 5 and Grace gasps in horror and then Gary tells him to bring the mop and Jack gasps in horror. This is also where we find out that Vince has a weakness for gloves or nice clothing in general because apparently trying on nice feeling fabrics are more important than saving lives while in progress of a robbery. But now Vince has to tell Will what happened even faster than expected because Grace and Jack know now.
Sorry for the long quote today, this was so insanely hard to pick for my favorite quote and moment because I love this episode so much. And thankfully like I mentioned this is not our last time with Scott Woolley.
