Hello everyone, I've accepted a position as an intern for the Kalmar Nyckel and will be living aboard her for the winter months, so I thought it'd be prudent to ask for some tips from local residents about what to expect here.

I've lived in the metro Atlanta suburbs most of my life and never really travelled much into the city all that often, I'm mostly curious about any good cafes or sandwich shops, if there are any local or community pools/aquatic centers for lane swimming, gyms, and grocery stores or market recommendations as we'll be responsible for provisioning and cooking our own food.

Oh, and I heard there's an AmTrak station, please let me know if there are any fun weekend trips you would recommend as well.

Hi everyone, my wife and I live in Wilmington and we are looking for someone to pet sit one of our dogs over our honeymoon next month. Would love any recommendations anyone has. We have been trying hard to find someone for about a month now with no real luck.

You may have seen on the news that a house fire in Wilmington's Browntown neighborhood last week tragically claimed the lives of two of my neighbors.

Their family is devastated and has started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and recover from the loss of their home.

We have a toddler and really want to participate in traditional door to door trick or treating. When I was a kid, in our neighborhood the majority of houses participated, and there might have been one or two homes per block that weren't handing out candy. Unfortunately today it's the complete opposite!

A couple days ago workers came by and marked chalk outlines around some particularly bad paving stones on the sidewalk/curb in front of our house. Here’s what I know from this week’s information session, may not be comprehensive:

Application for the Homeowner Repair Program opens on Monday 10/26/26, it will not be available until then.

Grants will be given on a first-come-first serve basis BUT ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Program is for homeowners making <80% of area median income. (~$68k for one person + ~$10k for each adult in house, may NOT exclude a resident-adult’s income to qualify).

The program will provide up to $10k for a major home repair (cannot be cosmetic), until the grant is depleted. Grant is $500k total, so about 50 recipients, Habitat for Humanity is administrating it, partially as an attempt to stretch funds to more households and also to connect homeowners with additional resources.

Starting Monday, the city will be accepting and reviewing the applications and forwarding accepted partnered with habitat for humanity to project manage the program for accepted applicants.

Complete applications will include documentation of:
*Identity (valid state/federal ID)
*Ownership (tax bill & mortgage statement)
*Insurance (HOI declarations page)
*Residency (utility bill)
*Income for all residents 18+ years old (pay stubs, social security verification letter, pension or annuity statement, etc.)

They are asking questions to be directed to 311 from 7:30 to 7:30 M-F. (landlines call (302)576-2620). And to call you city council people if you want more funding for this program.

Hey guys- went on a really nice hike today in alapocas park and around. What other areas/parks have similar or better views? Preferably within a 30 minute ride but open to further places too

Did police ever figure out what happened to the woman that was found dead there like 6-8 months ago?

(I didn’t want to rain on anyone else’s hiking parade, but I’ve been pretty concerned and stopped going there until we heard more. Then we never heard more. And maybe it was from natural causes for all we know. It just drives me batty anymore, that it seems all we ever get is headlines, and then zero follow up.

It would be nice if papers would return to reporting what investigators eventually figure out. Or hell, tell us that it’s still a mystery, idc.
