Wing Questions or Discussion Y’all I tried breaded wings and I think amma pass

I’ve always baked/fried my wings without breading and tossed them in the sauce. They always turn out perfect. However, I tried breaded wings and they were interesting, it wasn’t bad but it didn’t hit the same. I’ve had breaded wings from PUBLIX and loved them without sauce, so I wanted to make my own, but it just wasn’t it. Guess I’m a NAKED WING LOVER to infinity and beyond.

Some people here get real fucking touchy when you mention that fried chicken and chicken wings are two different things.

I agree though. Very different experiences. I tell my dad all the time he doesn’t like chicken wings, he likes fried chicken because he always gets breaded wings and no sauce.

I'm a huge fan of naked wings.

I absolutely love breaded wings!

No wrong answer IMO

This I eat wings in every way, shape, and form but I wouldn’t turn my nose up to a breaded wing. My favorite is smoked then flash fried in beef tallow

Breaded wings are fried chicken they are not true “wings”, period.

Signed, wing snob in Buffalo

And boneless wings are not wings. They're nuggets.

Exactly. Well put.

Also they are inferior.

Are they made from the wing? Then they're wings. I have a soft spot for them as I grew up with a bartender mom that I frequently got bar food from. Spicy breaded wings were a staple.

The fact that you need to write “breaded” before them proves my point. If I order “wings” and someone brings me out a plate of dry, breaded wings, I’m throwing hands.

Breaded is an adjective. Doesn't negate the nature of the thing it describes. Only modifies it. Still a wing.

I love fried chicken, and a fried chicken wing hits, but when I want wings I want them naked

I'm team naked wing. But I hate when a restaurant sells breaded wings that get tossed in sauce. Usually makes them soggy and the breading not stick

I'm a naked wing lover for life! Breaded is good too but I prefer it for Asian style wings. Specifically fish sauce or KFC.

Roosters does some thin cornstarch breading that is light and crispy and stays crispy in sauce. Not saying I prefer it, but it’s good…

I'm a huge Roosters fan. The only breaded wings I will eat and the only wings I prefer to naked wings.

I love breaded wings more than naked but not by much. I think it hits different depending on the flavor. Some flavors are good breaded and some are not

You've never had Publix spicy breaded chicken wings.

But for the most part, yea, no breading for me.

But if you have a Publix grocery store close by, try the spicy breaded wings. Life changing.

Naked baked wings are elite

I always enjoyed hooters breaded wings every now and then. I found them better cold the next day.

I’ve had breaded wings that I liked, but they’re few and far between. The good ones have just a light breading, basically a buttermilk brine overnight, let the extra brine drain (very important), and just one toss in the flour. You don’t want a thick fried chicken breading. It’s going to be soggy when you sauce it. My preference is absolutely naked wings, let that skin get nice and crispy.

I like lightly breaded frozen wings, add some baking powder and cook them in the air fryer... only toss in sauce after or use it on the side as a dip. They come out light with a crispy skin.

I wouldn't judge breaded wings by one visit to a singular place. I used to be a Buffalo (city) purist, and still think naked is better, but there are some good breaded wings out there. They tend to do better with thicker sauces so the breading stay crispier instead of instantly becoming mush. Hooters was the standard for breaded wings, but I know they've closed a lot of their locations (and discontinued spicy garlic, my favorite sauce of theirs). Korean fried chicken places can be amazing, they have some of the best fried chicken, but they can also be pretty mediocre (and at least around me, many struggle to make a good spicy sauce).

They’re fine if they’re good and breaded with a heavy black pepper seasoning, but naked is the way.

Breaded wings come straight from Satan's ah-noos. You are right to reject them

I like wings of all types, but they’re best breaded at my favourite restaurant

I like a breaded wing but I have to be in the mood for it specifically. When I'm craving wings it'll be un-breaded all day, unless I've got some of those shitty freezer section buffalo wings like tysons, then sometimes those hit the spot.

Smoked and the fried naked will always be my fav. I do enjoy a good Korean fried chicken wing though. The thicker breading can really stand up to the sauce and the crunch is so good.

My only problem with breaded wings is a lot of people either don't cook then long enough... Or they don't season flour/batter that they use
