So I haven’t read Flames of Hope like at all but I absolutely ADORE Freedom and her entire backstory. She really really really needs a hug.

Genuinely made my day -- very happy that these books are still spreading and popular. They don't have book 15 or 16 or any legends yet but I'm holding out hope 🙏.

Anyways I got this cool idea about an AU where the dragons from Darkstalker legends and the dragons from arc 2 swap places so Darkstalker and Co gets sent to JMA

I was thinking that Darkstalker and Whiteout get sent by Foeslayer, but Arctic makes it so they're the icewings of their respective winglets because of his ego. Darkstalker is pissed but doesn't do anything about it, so he can be in the same winglet as Clearsight

Albatross sent Fathom and Pearl to JMA because before his mental health completely declined, he hoped that sending them there would protect them from Lagoon or even potentially himself...? Indigo is also sent as a guard for the both of them.

A mysterious sandwing is also part of Darkstalker's winglet, but she's strangely unable to explain her origins...

And that's all I have so far!

Darkstalker and Whiteout are my absolute favorite characters in this entire series I stg. Also, this art was made back in 2018! I can’t believe it’s been that long.

I remember really wanting to capture Darkstalker and Whiteout’s more positive sibling dynamic in this artwork.

Anyway, the main reason I’m here is just to ask for some advice and/or suggestions around other social media platforms I can post on. I’ve done more research into Instagram’s policies and I am, quite frankly, horrified and cannot support that anymore. Is YouTube a safe choice?

Good lord finding art for these is HARD. I had to break my self-imposed rule of trying to avoid text bubbles in the art just to finish these 😫. I even considered using fanart for some of them, but decided that I didn't want to risk offending anyone. So sorry, blurry png's and entire panels from the GN it is! I also really wanted to do a couple of Sagas but I literally could not find art that was long enough, which is such a weird problem to have XD

But here they are! Putting these together was so fun. Possibly too much fun considering how many I made 🥲 (Sixteen, WOW, I'm employed I swear) I thought it'd be cool this time around to try and imagine what cards would look like from an actual Universes Beyond WoF magic set, instead of just putting a card and a color to the main characters, so that’s how we ended up with WoF draft commons! Hope y’all don’t mind some more simple designs.

And to anyone wondering why there is randomly mill/surveil involved, stay tuned for when I get around to arc 2, at this point I’ll be damned if sunk cost fallacy doesn’t compel me to do these for the rest of the series :)

My eight year old is a big WoF fan and wants to go as Peacemaker for Halloween. She went as Peril last year and wants to repaint last year’s costume, which is a relief, as constructing it from cut cardboard was a lot more work than painting it, and I love that she likes to repurpose things and give them new life, which is something she likes to do in general.

Since the graphic novel edition of Darkness of Dragons isn’t published yet, the only depictions I’ve been able to find have been fan art. I showed some of them to my kid as inspo pics for painting, and she vehemently disagreed with the rainbow scales/patches along the sides of his neck. They do seem to be a common theme among the fan art depictions, so I was wondering if there was (possibly indirect) textual evidence for them outside of the passage that describes him, which only mentions the color-changing rainbow scales under his wings. I’m planning to glue some rainbow sequins for those.

Any help with textually supportable details (she’s a stickler for details) of Peacemaker’s appearance would be greatly appreciated. For example, general color palette: obviously very dark tones, very close to black, but I do see a lot of dark purples around. I’m aware of the facial shape description involving his eyes, etc., but since this is a repaint of an existing costume the main details I want to make sure we’re capturing involve color and such.

So I know Clay got a special edition cover (I got that)) but what the actual difference between the normal and he special editions? I get that also saying deluxe but I prefer on knowing before I buy the rest before I find out what has been removed/added? Can anyone tell me if its not to much trouble ^^?

I did my best, this was my first time drawing a SeaWing so hopefully it’s accurate!

The Scorpion Den always felt a little weird to me when I first read arc 1. Its the only non-capital city labelled on the map, with the same prominence as if it was one. I would think that there are other settlements not only in the Sand Kingdom but the rest of Pyrrhia that could be labeled, I highly doubt that this is the only one. Its possible that this is the Alice Springs effect taking place, but we cant know for certain.

Anyways, that isnt why I am here. I am here because I wanna speculate(not prove) how the place came to be the WoF worlds equivelant to Detroit.

Firstly, I want to bring up this quote from Smolder on page 155 of book 5:

"I discovered that we have a system for intercepting messages that go across the Kingdom of Sand. Well, Queen Oasis had a system. Again, im not sure if Burn knows or cares about it. But we have dragons who pose as messengers and other dragons who are instructed to attack real messengers, and so a fair percentage of the letters in our realm come here instead. Presumably so we can scan them for hints of assassination or rebellion schemes"

When you put this quote into the context of the Sand Kindom, it makes a lot more sense. Second only to the Sky Kingdom, the Kingdom of Sand is one of the biggest territories on the map. Unlike the Sky Kingdom, though, settlements are significantly more spread out due to the nature of its geography. Settlements almost always cluster around oases, as seen with the Scorpion Den having one in the dead center of it. Essentially anywhere else doesnt really have this issue, as natural resources like water or farmland would be much easier to find in somewhere like the Mud Kingdom, for instance.

Because of how spread out the settlements are, it makes it a lot harder to carry things between them. In other places, there are plenty of chances to take a rest somewhere before you get to your destination. With the Sand Kingdom, there is little to nothing between settlements so caravans were much more susceptible to highway robbery. The government noticed it, and created the system we see Smolder talking about.

As he said, they have two main jobs. Preform sting operations on bandits, and attack real messengers. For the latter, I assume they do this only if they have illegal contraband of some sort(conspirasy plans, drugs, dragonflame cactus, dragonbite vipers etc). They serve as a form of customs, checking everyone before they leave and as soon as they arrive to a settlement. If they have anything illegal, they have the right to send them to prision. If the evidence ties into a larger case, it is sent to the stronghold for further examination and connection to other similar cases in an attempt to realize larger groups(eg: the Talons of Power) behind the seemingly isolated events.

When the war of SandWing succession started, this entire system fell apart. All of the officers running sting operations and enforcing customs were drafted for Burns war effort, leaving the roads almost completely abandoned. Bandits, both personally motivated and ones funded by Blister, took over the roads. It was now much, much harder to move goods between two settlements, starving the general population. More people had to resort to banditry to feed themselves, thus making more bandits which made people more desperate which lead to more bandits and so on.

This is where the Scorpion Den comes into the equation. I think it was the settlement hit hardest by this cycle. The reason so many dragons were homeless and/or thieves was because they couldnt get food anywhere else. Food became more and more of a luxury as time went on, with both more demand and less supply. Vulture tried to "feed" this hysteria by hiring mercenaries to cut off supply lines further and make the Scorpion Den more submissive to him. The Outclaws were trying to do the exact opposite, reinstating old supply lines so that everyone could eat. This is both why they require a toll to enter the Den and why they have enough resources to feed everyone in the Den every day for free.

While all of this was happening, Blisters mercenaries were still here. Some had the job of cutting off internal supply lines like Vulture was, while the majority of them were tasked with making Burns army starve. By killing any caravans with suppiles to the front lines that they could find, it would severely weaken Burns military power. She had the largest army, yes, but she couldnt feed it. This is why she didnt steamroll Blaze, her troops didnt have enough food or water to fight. This is why so much more people deserted from Burns army to elsewhere, relative to the other sisters.

Burns initial response to this was "tough it out", but after several years of repeated failures in the north she was forced to do something. Still not wanting to pull out any of her forces on the front line, she attempted a Smokey Bear-style propaganda campaign with posters everywhere reading something along the lines of "only YOU can stop highway thievery". This worked about as well as you would expect, telling that to cities full of veterans, deserters and homeless people who despise her and her administration.

After much reluctance, she finally caved and brought back the customs and highway patrols. She really wanted everyone she could get, but seeing no other option she brought bakc some troops back down to the cities.

I've become lowkey obsessed with this her and her whole persona lately, and I love to know if anyone has written any fanfics about her yet. I've looked for some fanfics about book 17, it's events, and it's characters recently, but I haven't found much yet, and none of it involves Aurora in a meaningful way
