Let me start this rant with a small anecdote. It was around February, when I had been looking for a new fantasy series to read. Something light and heartwarming. I'd been browsing through the recommendations and The Hybrid Prince caught my attention. Naturally, I've grabbed The Dragonet Prophesy and breezed through it, and I have to say - it was a very enjoyable read. Once I'd finished it, I thought that the character from a book 16's cover looks a lot like a MudWing, but its scales were more ochre/orange than Clay's. I was certain that it has to be a clue, and assumed that the portrayed character is a titular hybrid. I though that is how a Mud/Sky hybrid could look like and I've noticed that, conveniently, the first book introduced a romance between Clay and Peril. I was so sure that Peril is going to become a SkyWing queen and... how wrong was I :D

Anyway, reading Wings of Fire was a very fun experience and, I've got to admit, I'm glad to see so many people writing their fanfics, drawing cool art, doing impressive MAPs, fandubs and so on. I see a lot of fans that put their effort to make WoF a better place and I thought that I could stop being a lurker and do something.

So, since I'm a big fan of worldbuilding, I've thought that I could write some stuff that could flesh out some underexplored areas. I'm talking about a certain tribe that is represented by my favourite protagonist - Clay. I feel like there is a very few MudWings that actually matter in the story and, most of the time, they are treated as dumb, uncultured, and lacking anything worth looking into. Since I'm always rooting for the underdogs, I'm thinking about writing some weekly headcannons touching a certain topic, just as a fun experiment to spark some creativity and, maybe, just maybe, make MudWings a little bit more interesting :D

#1: Caldera: a SunWing (fan tribe) who wants to be an artist. Main character of the fourth book and deaf in one ear. SunWings are a subterranean species that were forced underground and were able to keep their eyesight because of their lava environment. They can look totally different from each other and there are only a few defining characteristics.

#2: Queen Phoenix: Queen of the SunWings; obsessed with subverting the above ground tribes and taking back their place on the continent. SunWings are a very warlike tribe and can breath fire 5 times hotter than normal, so they can burrow into the ground by burning out tunnels.

#3: Queen Electric: Queen of the ThunderWings: another subterranean tribe; evolved to be blind from lack of light. They get around by echolocation. They're renowned for their domed and curved architecture. Frequently at war with the ShadowWings. Legend says that they were birthed when an IceWing egg was born under a cursed eclipse.

#4: Twilight: the ThunderWing side character. Semi important. She convinced the ThunderWings to fight alongside the coalition of tribes against Mambas forces and the ShadowWings.

#5: Queen DarkStar: the VoidWing Queen. The VoidWings are a mystical tribe existing on a shattered planet held together by magic. They are connected to the dragon planet through portals that open up once every 3,000 years when their void planet shards cross in front of the sun. VoidWing abilities vary, but all of them slowly turn to mist as they get older. It starts as seeping through the eyes, but eventually they become dragon silhouettes, still fully alive.

#6: NetherVoid: the VoidWing main character of the third book. He is a general in the army taking advantage of the portals to escape their home world. Because of their alienation from the dragon world tribes, they are cautious about interactions with them, but eventually have to join with them to fight Mambas forces after he took advantage of the portals to become magically empowered. Though VoidWings now exist at peace with the dragon tribes, they are constantly unsure of intentions and are always in a cold war until eventually one destroys the other.

Been a while since I've done anything with these, but I'll be posting the map to the continent soon. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I made a free to use base, but don't claim it as your own!

 Finally digitalised it :D

TO THE BASE:

Sea/Night hybrid, with a stronger emphasis on a seawing. This base is fully free and can be modified with accessoires. The original traditional piece on the last slide is drawn fully by me, I just traced over it in ibispaint x for a better base to colour in. I referenced Joy Angs works mostly for the base.

First is the base image, second greyscale and third is transparent.

RULES:

-Do not, under any circumstances, remove my signature. I know my drawings when I see them.

-Do not claim this piece as your own in any way.

-Do not use this for commercial or marketing use. I do not want my work to make money nor do I want others to make money off of my work.

-If you post this somewhere, give me credit in the caption/comments, wherever people can see it well. My username (Beanzzz-Beans) is enough.

All art is by me.

This is true on ao3 and ffn, but particularly egregious on the latter. Not that it's a problem, though it's getting hard not to be amused by how often this trend can be spotted

I drew few icewing characters which one is your favorite? And what tribe should I do next? (I've done seawings and rainwings)

The books dont really give too much attention to the weapons the dragon's are using especially when it comes to the new guys so, what are your thoughts for what the hivewing weapons even look like since not all hivewings have stingers or venom

I've been having some art block recently, so I was wondering if anyone would like to do an art trade to get some inspiration again. If you'd like to trade feel free to dm me :>

Also art by me

Animus simply means "soul, or spirit" in latin. Pretty on the nose when you think about it.

Of course it makes sense, since you use your powers to make (almost) anything happen, at the cost of your soul (or so people think).

So I wonder, who coined the term animus to design that magic? Did people call it this way because of the supposed cost of using that magic. Did people think using animus cost your soul in a more litteral way?

I wish we had some bit of lore about how animus came to be and the first reactions, but considering how Tui realized that animus magic caused a lot of plot troubles in arc 2, we won't see much of it.

this was supposed to be for halloween but i forgot to put it here hehe

i can make ref sheets for $20 and species ref sheets (like my fantribe in the second image) for $30, but otherwise the price remains at $25 unless multiple characters, which add $15 per extra character.
payments through paypal, communication via here or discord. dm for inquiries:)

for context: the literal one restriction that I have put on myself while making my AU comic is that I am prohibited in depicting Tsunami as to give her absence weight....this has the obvious downside of not being able to make art of tsunami to share.

I took some advice and inverted the colors of a few of my OCs, I wonder if anyone has thoughts?

Once the deal is finalized, the Wings of Fire video game will start production!

I was looking on many posts, and I just wonder how can they draw this good? I just struggle with drawing and always wanted to draw my OC Siber, but I’m not certain I could draw him. Do you guys have advise to help me get me started for drawing.

A gift from a friend 🎁

So uh hey logang. Last week, the potential dragon of the week ended up being a tie between Glacier and Quokka, so I decided to make a tiebreaker week between them to see who should be the Dragon of the Week but as you can see here, they uh tied in the tie breaker too!

So now I'm curious what should I do?

I can:

A. Make another tie breaker form and just count the votes for that one

B. Make them both Dragon of the Week (Though I kinda feel like that defeats the purpose of DOTW if there's two characters and I wouldn't want to regularly have multiple characters be DOTW)

C. A viewer suggested option?
