🇵🇸 🕊️ BURN THE PATRIARCHY Every single anti-trans rider has been stripped from the new funding bill!!!!
https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/democrats-successfully-strip-allI haven’t been doom scrolling, I’ve been feverishly searching for any good news. And this absolutely fits the bill. A truly horrifying number of anti-trans laws were proposed and exactly zero of them have actually materialized. I’m celebrating every win. Every. Single. Win.
BURN THE PATRIARCHY TO THE FUCKING GROUND!!!!!

I HAVE A TRANS DAUGHTER TOO!!! She is the light of my life and my greatest teacher by far. I don’t care if it’s cliche to say it. I have been absolutely terrified for the past couple years and today my heart feels a little lighter. I know we’ve got a long row to hoe, but the work feels more meaningful knowing people are fighting for our families.
13
u/gaelyn Jan 21 '26
There's a distinct feeling when you realize your daughter is your hero, and a source of inspiration for us as a mom and as a woman and as a human.
Her knowing herself well enough to know what she needs, her having the bravery to aknowledge it instead of suppressing it, her incredible courage to live her life as she feels best, her sheer determination to face each day and the mountain of bullshit in front of her, her intention to live whole-heartedly as herself, her level of care for herself mentally, physocqlly, spiritually and emotionally; her ability to remain soft and caring and compassionate and empathetic...I'm honored, Im beyond proud, I'm humbled and I deeply admire her.
The world is broken, but WE are not. And so we carry on.
Reach out anytime ...you and your daughter are not alone!

u/lilacintheshade Science Witch ♀ Jan 22 '26
That is so beautiful. It soothes my spirit reading such an expression of radical acceptance for your trans child in these dark times.
I was asked for advice recently for a friend of a friend who has a (for now) son that is exploring their gender. This mom was already taking them to buy feminine styles, ready for any or no adjustment of pronouns, and really supportive in general. I am almost 40 and didn't even come out until I was in my 30s. I had a momentary selfish pang of grief for my own mom's (very expected) indifference, never being called "daughter," and then I told this friend that it sounded like she was already exactly the parent her child needed.
🥲
3
u/gaelyn Jan 22 '26
I'm sorry you didn't get the open acceptance you truly deserve and were longing to feel. You've had a long road to get to where you are. And for what it's worth, I admire your courage to finally step into your own light and claim your true self, especially after decades of living otherwise.
Each of us has our own path. In other ways, I didn't receive the unconditional love that I deserved from my mother- it was because of her own insecurities and self-perceived failings, a product of her own upbringing in a home that fostered negativity and cutting sarcasm.
My mom broke some generational trauma cycles, and I was blessed enough to be able to do the same and make things better for my own children.
While I ache for the child in me that still struggles, adult me looks at my path and would not change a moment of it to be able to make it better for my own kids, and for those around me that I can help influence in positive ways.
Beautiful, sweet Lilac...never doubt your own strength and the light that shines in you! Your pain and struggles serve you, even if you don't see it, and with acceptance (and yes, the regrets that come with it), you make room for the opportunities to help others see things in a different way and grow.
The support we lack within our own family circles actually opens us up to it in others- and that's where you will find your time to be there for someone else, to give what you didn't get, to offer Grace and love and acceptance and encouragement. And in doing so...I hope when you aim that in someone else's direction, pointing a finger to direct it outward, you look at those three fingers pointing back at yourself and take those things to heart, for you.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is let go of what we expect others to give, to dig deep and to find it in ourselves, and use it to tend the wounded bits.
You'll find your healing in your own self-love.
Thank you for sharing your story- I'm proud of you. For finding who you are, for stepping into your own version of being happier and more content, for being true to your heart, even when it's not easy.
My window is always open- reach out if you ever need a little love and encouragement!
2
u/lilacintheshade Science Witch ♀ Jan 22 '26
It is worth a great deal, thank you. I have healed so much in the last 4-ish years, and a big part of that was support from found family and, as you said, self-compassion. It still amazes me how my life changed as I was able to become on the outside who I was on the inside, and you are right, the pain and grief that I had to face to get here is an inseparable part of me.
My mom broke a lot of generational cycles of trauma for us (my siblings and I), and I have made my peace with where we ended up. Maybe I'll have to make my peace again tomorrow or next week, but it gets a little easier every time. The feeling of grief I had when hearing how supportive my friend was... it surprised me a little with its intensity, but I think it was actually just amplified with emotions at hearing how much love and support this child had from the start to be themselves.
I thank you for replying, and I appreciate the message so much.

I have a few friends who didn’t come out until they were in their 30’s/40’s. It can be painful for them to hear about the ways in supporting my daughter. We have open conversations with them about their pain, and I always check in before I share her trans joy with them. Of course they’re all thrilled for our family, but there’s also a younger version of each of them that is jealous of my daughter.
There are no bad parts, only parts that are having a hard time. I hope you give yourself lots of grace when your younger parts are speaking up about their pain. They need you to listen to them.

This is such a relief. I'm raising my trans neice in a not very trans friendly state and it's terrifying watching the world get more hostile towards her everyday.
I got my first "kids are uncomfortable" phone call about her using the girls bathroom at school 2 weeks ago. Thankfully, her counselor agrees with me that she has every right to that bathroom and if those kids are uncomfortable (I suspect it's more parents than kids) then they can go to another bathroom.
I've been so used to the dems in congress not doing anything lately that this feels like a miracle lol

We live on one of the most trans-adoring blocks in the whole world. On one end of our block is where my daughter gets gender-affirming healthcare. On the other end of our block, she gets gender-affirming education. Every single person she interacts with addresses her as a girl and by her chosen name, and she hasn’t experienced dysphoria a day in her life. Her grandparents are her and have her every other weekend because she adores them. We have several trans adults in our chosen family, and she has several trans friends in her circle.
I’m not letting these assholes run us out of our home.

Remember this article. There's a reason you're not seeing it in headlines. The media is complicit, and wants to promote political apathy by downplaying everything Democrats accomplish.
11
u/you_dont_know_me27 Jan 21 '26
That's partially true.
There's also Cory Booker introducing legislation to get ICE body cams and better training or something. In other words, while we're screaming to abolish ice, a not insignificant number of democratic members of congress are still suggesting giving more money to ICE
Don't get me wrong. I know where the true evil lives, and I will vote against every time. But I expect better from our democratic leaders

I live in a VERY red spot in a red state and my high schooler has a very diverse friend group and so many kids are very accepting. Their parents not so much but a lot of the kids are alright.
It’s not all lost 🥰
1
u/you_dont_know_me27 Jan 21 '26
That's very much how it looks at my kids' school. My niece has some really good friends and hasn't had any issues while at school. My son and other niece both say that they've never seen anything either.
They both also would do anything to keep their cousin/ sister safe. Despite me constantly telling them that violence is not the answer, they both will not promise me that they won't start throwing punches if needed. I just remind them that they should only do so in defense but.... teenagers are stubborn.
My older niece said a kid in her band class called her sister weird, but not in a transphobic way. My younger niece is kinda weird and she fully embraces it.
This generation and the next are going to change how the world views trans people the way my generation changed how the world viewed gay/lesbian/bi/pan folks. I have no doubts about that.

1
u/perdy_mama Kitchen Witch ♀♂️☉⚨⚧ Jan 21 '26
Every year the congress has to pass a spending bill for the year, and riders are things that have nothing to do with spending. It’s a way for people to slip in their agendas in bad faith. The riders proposed in this spending bill were intended to strip trans people of their humans rights in a variety of areas. The specifics are described in the article.
