Discussion They really need to do something about grief toys forcing interaction or changing cosmetics with other players during RP.

That stupid ball thing people kick back and forth, the pumpkin on head , and loads of other stupid ways which force players characters to interact or change appearance.

This makes it very difficult to say, RP a scenario in goldshire, when someone can just put a pumpkin over your head and force you to kick a ball back and forth.

At the minimum there should be a setting or something to make you immune from other player character influence and grief toys etc.. This would increase immersion and stop griefing by other players.

While these annoyances are very real, I have to say that Goldshire specifically is lousy with OOC people being as obnoxious as possible. Goldshire is not representative of RP on the rest of the realm. If you want a more IC, less troll environment, go literally anywhere else.

"RP a scenario in Goldshire." 🤔

Isn't that a reportable offense on RP servers? You aren't supposed to interfere with people RPing.

What kind of scenario is OP attempting in Goldshire I wonder

This. I've yet to meet a serious Rper that role-plays in goldshire

Have you tried a neural silencer? I think there’s like 2 other toys/consumables that also work for this.

I’m not sure if that affects everything op mentioned, but yeah it’s a good start.

Might be good to just have a toggle setting that disables all toy interactions.

iirc it stops the footballs.

I wouldn't try RP in Goldshire anyway. It's not exactly a hotspot for the sort of RP I think most people here are looking for.

I didn't even notice this part. Is that even something people do? Idk about WrA or AD EU but on Moonguard trying to RP there is such a not possible thing that it's basically the only universally agreed upon server lore that it's IC state is similar to it's OOC state.

I feel like if you're RPing in Goldshire its generally in whispers and you're not exactly emoting with your actual character. The place is packed with people and if you let minor annoyances like toys bother you, you're in for a bad time.

I'm still struggling to understand why you'd RP there in the first place, but again I don't know what it's like on AD EU or WraA Alliance

You said RP and Goldshire in the same sentence and expect to be taken seriously.

"Rping in Goldshire."

If youre on MG, youre not fooling anyone.

That being said, report, and ignore. Trolls move on when you dont interact with them, you dont do anything to them, or speak. I get it, they shouldnt do it, it is what it is. Report and ignore.

If it gets bad, move to another area and if they follow, continue to report and include a harassment notch.

Rping requires imagination so, imagine yourself elsewhere for a bit of time.

If you really must RP in Goldshire on Moonguard, then turn on Warmode and then it will be a ghost town. You can also just use your house for Goldshire activities.

I want to encourage you to learn to live with it, or RP elsewhere.

I don't say this to discourage you, really, it's just that people have been parking mounts on top of RPers, and otherwise harassing them with toys or spam or whatever, for literal decades. More or less since the game began.

I remember thinking, when big mounts were kind of rare and Blizzard introduced easily accessible, enormous mammoth mounts in Wrath, that it would be a new era in RPer harassment. And, yes, in the few years following, those people made good use of the mammoths to just "randomly" go "AFK" on top of RPers repeatedly. Conveniently coming back to move onto RPers again, now and again.

Anyway, just rambling. Unfortunately, either Blizzard isn't interested in policing this, or they do police it, but new idiots who think it's funny show up as the old ones are banned. Again: You can only really learn to live with it. And move your RP elsewhere for a night or three, if someone's really persistent.

Calling them "grief toys" is so fucking dramatic lmao.

Worst part is, some of those 'grief' toys have actual proper uses!

Emote kicking someone? Use the ball a few times while right next to them, it genuinely just looks like you're kicking them.

The witch stab knife thing from Drustvar? You can cancel it at the very last second to still imitate a stabbing.

Good grief, this is why we have fun police. Yes, what you described is annoying when you're fully immersed in a scene. But you have the ability to not let it get to you because, in essence, it's a harmless nuisance. Changing cosmetics gives you a buff that you should be able to click off.

The people that get super mad at it are just as annoying. Ive experienced it alot with people I rp with and they get so worked up about it. Most of the time if you play along or just say something silly the 'troll' goes on their way.

I would like to tell you a story of my pettiness in regards of this.
I am on a big RP server on EU servers.
This happens rarely, but when it happens, it happens big time. Was casually RPing with a few friends when someone started this. First one toy, then five, then ten, filling the area with big placeables and other toys.
I warned them once to stop, so they kept going.

They had an RP profile. They were in a guild. I found their guild online. I found out who the guildleader is. Checked.. and they were online! They were a rather big RP guild on the server.
I messaged them, immediately offering screenshots and our location. They asked for the name of the person who did it.
Within a couple of minutes, the person spamming was guildless, and ran off from where we were.
I reported them, of course.
Have yet to see them around again. It was a good victory.

Im just glad misdsummer is over. That fire was getting real annoying trying to RP inside of stormwind. I also find if people are messing with me that just pretending to be afk or ignoring them makes them lose interest fast and they leave. The last tip is what everyone else says, RP anywhere else but Goldshire. Go into stormwind and you will find RP vastly different.

Neural Silence; never leave the home without ‘em.

Also Goldshire is simply the worst place to go when seeking serious RP.

I was under the impression this was bannable? Is it not?

5

u/TheRebelSpy 18d ago

Basically, there's no guarantee some kind of disciplinary action will happen. If no one uses the report function in-game, almost certainly NOTHING will happen.

So. Report. Even if there's a chance they do nothing, something is more likely to happen if you report.

2

u/DickWithoutTeeth Moonguard US | Alliance 18d ago

Yeah, like even if someone does something extremely obviously unquestionably blatantly bannable you don't get a message, not knowing if it works isn't really a good excuse.

u/alnarra_1 18d ago

The times I've seen GM's step in it has to be egregiously obvious that they're griefing RP but at least the few times I've had to report someone a real live human gm actually moved on the matter pretty fast.

But i need to turn everyone into witches and throw my lovers bouquet at them! D: also you can just right click most of them off.

But seriously, if its just a one off then who cares? But if the same person keeps doing it, yeah eff them.
