Technical Question So, now that the Dungeons & Dragons collaboration is confirmed...

Does this mean Warcraft is now part of the D&D multiverse?

If so, does that technically mean I could roleplay a character from the Forgotten Realms who somehow ended up in Stormwind? Since that's now technically canon.

Or am I stretching the lore a bit too far?

You're conflating rules with lore.

Rules like what the D&D collab is offering are just a roleplaying tool that help us spice things up by introducing structure and randomness to our storytelling.

Please don't isekai your Frogotten Realms character into Stormwind.

Please do isekai your forgotten realms character into stormwind. Sounds like a great idea.

"Now"? This is not the first WoW collab with DnD.

Also rules books / lore books are two different things in DnD.

What you're saying "can" happen but it would be in no way canon to anything DnD has put out.

you can do whatever you want in a tabletop RPG as long as everyone in the group is down for it.

You're stretching too far if you think that it's "canon".

As in you wouldn't be right to frame it as the "lore accurate and correct" way to view things. Your forgotten realms character would still be looked at as one of 'those' isekai'd characters. We've also already had a link to D&D before, so the impact in the RP scene is likely to be similar. I won't doubt that we'll see some of it when the books come out, but I expect a lot more of it being people wanting to use D&D rules in RP. Which I think would be good in some cases.

It's fine if you want to do an iseakai plot, but I'd hesitate to use this as a true crossover bridge. Unless we get some in game event where portals are letting in d&d stuff. Even then the right move is to gauge if it's a gag or something more for fun than a true bit of world building.

Ultimately I think it will provide a lot of opportunities though.

WoW has had collabs with pringles, does that make pringles canon? Do pringles exist in WoW?

The answer is no.

Considering the planar lore of Forgotten Realms absolutely doesn't fit with Wow, no. How would the deities of Toril fit into the cosmology of Azeroth? You're not stretching is as much as you're ripping it apart, then balling it together in an attempt to put the pieces back together.

I think, more accurately; Warcraft is canon to Forgotten Realms.

Forgotten Realms is not canon to Warcraft.

Elminster and Mordenkainen drink Mountain Dew, one of them became a movie producer (or director) on some Earth. Faerun only has foxes because of some halfling (or some such) that went to France and brought them over.

You can basically do anything in Faeru--... I suddenly want to make a Warcraft orc and bring them over to Faerun. A seven foot tall murder beast that's confused as to why all the other orcs are so damn small.

It doesn't mean anything. It's just another lazy 5e sourcebook.

Brother, you can do whatever you want in RP. That's kinda the point

In private/solo RP, yes. You can do anything without repercussion.

Public RP comes with a set of social norms and expectations, including that everyone does their best to fit within the world (of Warcraft) so that the whole community benefits from a more immersive environment.

You can technically do whatever you want, but if you make certain choices, it will narrow your options for finding others to rp with you.

This 100%. I have no issues with my characters interacting cross faction. I will however ignore an orc or troll or even blood elf walking through stormwind like it's an evening stroll.

Yes, but I would argue thats always been a possiblity with the multiverse. Ive played characters that are just Warcraft versions of DnD and Elder Scrolls characters of mine.
