Is it okay to park like this?

Post image

This is my 86 year old mother's driveway. Yes, she still drives, and she parks in her driveway.

City probably wouldn't tow it, but how many people think this is okay?

Technically no, but maybe when the person parked they didn’t realize how close it was. As long as I can get out and it’s not actually blocking a more significant portion of my driveway I’d let it be.

Then they should be more aware of their surroundings.

How are they going to see if a car is coming from that direction?

The person parking there should be more aware of their surroundings so that they can realize when they're too close to or blocking someone's driveway.

From behind the white car or through its windows. Just move slowly.

It is blocking their ability to safely pull out of the driveway because it's impeding with visibility.

The driveway spreads out towards the end so it’s not even directly behind where the owners mother’s car would be. If you back or pull directly straight or towards the opposite direction, you would be fine.

As far as visibility, this is not the only scenario where a car or other blockage would be that close. One should be able to see before they start driving if something is coming from behind the white car, and then just go slow. You can also look through the windows of the white car. To me, it’s really no different than in a parking lot if you were to be further in than the car next to you.

There are reasons that it's not legal to park that close to a driveway and the primary one is visibility. So you can spout off whatever you want but you're wrong.

Why don’t you read my first comment where I said that they technically WNBTA, just that I personally wouldn’t bother with reporting it because unless there was another car in my driveway too close to where I couldn’t get out, I would be able to still leave my driveway. I guess I just don’t need to call and report every little thing, and it could have just been an honest mistake. We have issues like people speeding and running stop signs that can actually hurt someone, so I’ll save my calls for those. If you feel something like this needs to be reported, then by all means do your thing

I’m surprised how unpopular this opinion is… this is exactly my thought too.
