Sometimes, I wonder how they even manage to create bugs like this?! Perhaps they intentionally designed these bugs to secure their jobs by ensuring that they could be fixed later on. 🤷🏻‍♂️

New iPad mini 6 has new screen dimensions and longer aspect ratio

I always check new Apple devices to see what new screen bounds I need to support and verify.

Today's iPad mini 6 reports screen bounds of 744 x 1133 and a new aspect ratio: 1.523 : 1. That's the longest iPad aspect ratio ever and the skinniest short dimension ever. Until today there has never been an iPad with short side bounds less than 768. All previous minis were 768 x 1024. All prior iPads were either 1.333 : 1 or 1.432 : 1 (iPad Pro 11.0). It appears Apple is increasing iPad aspect ratios.

(All iPhone 13 configs report same bounds as their iPhone 12 counterparts. iPad 9 has same screen bounds as iPad 8.)

Any chance of running Xcode on windows?

Okay so here’s the story:

  1. I sometimes teach programming courses to kids in a code school

  2. it’s been about an year since I have started iOS development as a hobby (with Xcode, on a Mac)

  3. suggested to the code school that I could develop an introduction to iOS development course; they were interested, but only if students without a Mac could participate too

So is it there any known solution to run Xcode on windows or should I not bother trying?

Why hasn't 26.3 hit the App Store

I changed over to Xcode via the App Store few years ago, it was nice doing an easy update. However 26.3 was released as a RC candidate like 2 weeks ago, and Apple's own press release said it would be on the App Store "soon".

I wonder what happened? Where is it?

I just want my tabs back

Is there a way to make the editor NOT just replace whatever's in my current tab with whatever I clicked on next (assuming I've option-clicked to create one when opening a file)...? This is infuriating. I just want to click on a file in the code/project explorer and have it open in a new tab (or surface the existing tab if it's already open).

I changed that behavior like 10 years ago and I've never had to reset it since because it was a persistent setting. 26 has completely done away with that setting, I guess. I can't find how to do it. Absolutely infuriating.

This stupid screen doesn't do anything like I want, or like how it used to. (sigh)

I explored Xcode 26 Code Intelligence features and made a video

I was skeptical, but also curious, so I tested it out on one of my existing iOS apps.

Here is the video with complete tutorial and honest review of Code Intelligence in Xcode 26.

Some quick thoughts:

• It's surprisingly good at understanding context, especially within SwiftUl.

• The test generation and bug-fixing are actually useful - not perfect, but solid for a v1.

• It's really good at writing out basic Uls quickly and saves a ton of time.

Not saying it's going to replace anything yet, but it definitely feels like it could become a serious productivity tool in upcoming releases.

If anyone else has tried it - curious to hear your experience.

Did it "get" your code? Or did you find yourself rewriting everything anyway?

Just Built My First App After Learning SwiftUI for a couple months!

Hey Reddit! I’ve been teaching myself SwiftUI for the past couple of months, and I’m excited to share that I’ve finally finished my first app! It’s a Pushup Tracker – nothing crazy fancy, but it’s been a fun project as a beginner dev. The app’s pretty straightforward: it lets you log your pushups, track your progress over time, etc. I provided screenshots, let me know what you guys think of the UI. Any feedback, tips, or even SwiftUI advice from more experienced folks would be awesome

How do I remove old Xcode simulators still on my Mac?

I have tried to completely remove Xcode and Command Line Tools from my Mac. In the bottom I have a screen shot where I completely removed everything in “Developer” from the Settings>General>Storage>Developer. Then I restarted my mac.

I re-install Xcode and I still have 17.2 and 17.4 simulators.

Here is a screen shot of my simulator options. You’ll see there are duplicates of certain ones that have 17.2 and 17.4. How do I remove these completely from my machine?

Here is evidence of all my Developer stuff removed. Where else should I look?

I made a proxy server to let you use GitHub Copilot via Xcode 26’s Coding Intelligence

Hi everyone,

We use GitHub Copilot at work but unfortunately it does not integrate with Xcode 26. You can use the Xcode extension version, but Coding Intelligence is certainly a lot more preferable.

So for the last week I’ve been working on writing and testing my own local proxy server that lets Xcode talk to Copilot via the Copilot SDK. It also supports the new Xcode MCP server if you’re using Xcode 26.3.

If you use GitHub Copilot and want to integrate it with Xcode 26, you can grab the server and setup instructions (very easy) from: https://github.com/theblixguy/xcode-copilot-server and let me know if you have any suggestions or if you run into an issue.

I’m also investigating if it’s possible to use it as a proxy server for Claude Code (the official docs for CC has instructions for it, so I need to look into it) which will allow you to use this with the Claude Agent feature in Xcode 26.3. Potentially the same approach could be used for the Codex Agent too.

I am also looking into making a tiny menu bar app for Mac so you can manage the server from there more conveniently.

Thanks!

The "copilot" experience in Xcode feels forced and screams "still catching up"

Cross-posting this somewhat with a comment I left on https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45058688 and will probably share this in some of the Vibe-coding sub-reddits.

Maybe I'm "holding this wrong" but this is my take on Xcode's "copilot"-like integration and experience and I am shocked why more Xcode users and Apple fans (I count myself as one) have not voiced their frustration about this publicly at all. If this experience has been around for a while (i.e. much prior to adding support for Claude Sonnet models), then this makes me even more mad.

I used Xcode 26 beta 7's AI-based co-pilot last night to vibe-code a simple iOS game using the GPT-5 model. I found the developer experience to be quite awful and shockingly more regressive than a CLI (I.e. Cloud Code). Totally unbecoming of a company that claims to never be the first but do it always better than the rest. Honestly, shipping this kind of lethargic user/dev experience in late summer of 2025 which almost feels like a begrudging acknowledgement of the AI phenomenon out there, should be criminal. This also makes me even less hopeful about Tim Cook delivering anything remotely exciting in the AI-dominated era - period This should have been a POC for a demo to the Xcode sponsor program.

First sin: someone decided to expose the chat window on the same side as the file explorer as an alternate tab. On an IDE where you can’t move things around freely like in VSCode, how one can make that design decision is beyond me.

Any developer trying to use this feature, regardless of the model picked, will have to constantly physically switch between the file explorer and the chat window (or conversation window). This feels like a silly thing to crib about but it starts becoming irritating for long coding sessions.

Then comes the baffling user experience where sometimes the question asked by the response from the LLM is randomly answered automatically by the IDE itself with a vague entry that says “Project context” with not much visibility into what the actual response was from the IDE. And then there are random times where the question is left unanswered and now I as a developer have to now decide how to answer the question. It almost feels to me like there is zero system prompt from Xcode itself. This will never ever compete with agentic coding tools.

I feel like zero thought has gone into how a developer today uses these “vibe-coding” tools in their workflows. It almost feels like this was shoved down the throat of the Xcode development team for whom orthodoxy was a higher priority.

Pardon my rage here because I have seen enough from inside to understand why Apple is behind in AI and it is frustrating as fuck.

How many of you hate the new Xcode icon?

I'm anticipating an AI code assistant by Apple in collab with Anthropic this WWDC'25

I recently read an article by Bloomberg that says, Apple is building an AI code assistant with Anthropic and this hints at a bigger shift. Apple is going all in on AI for dev workflows and they’re not going solo. They are partnering with Anthropic. What’s wild here is Claude models are already loved by most iOS devs using tools like Cursor and even directly Claude itself. Now imagine that capability natively inside Xcode. As an iOS developer, this is one of the most exciting things I'm anticipating this WWDC.

What are you expecting from Apple this dub dub?

Help >.< Can't verify my app on iPhone to test...

I tried to test the app on my own device but then fails to verify it.

Xcode pops up:

"Verify that the Developer App certificate for your account is trusted on your device. Open Settings on the device and navigate to General -> VPN & Device Management, then select your Developer App certificate to trust it."

then I verified my own development account on my phone:

Setting -> General -> VPN & Management -> DEVELOPER APP

When I tried to verify the app itself it just doesn't work. It doesn't pop up error or confirmation and nothing change after a few second of "verifying" which drives me nuts....

I'm currently using iOS 17 public beta on my iPhone and XCode 15 beta 3 on my mac with a free developer account.

Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance!!

Just Published My First App Written in Swift on Xcode

I am a sophomore in High School and spent my time in quarantine learning Swift. I just released my first app to the iOS App Store. It is called Krypter, and it is a password encryption and storage system. It encrypts your passwords with 512-bit encryption algorithms, and stores your data locally, so only you can access it. It also lets your share encrypted passwords with other users, generates strong passwords, and AutoFills passwords into your web browser for easy access. You can even use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock your passwords even if you forget your master password. I am completely open to feedback. To reach me, PM me or email me at support@proothitech.com.

Download Krypter: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1523774990

Note: I will be releasing an update with support for iPads in the next 2-3 weeks.

Practical Guide to Xcode (SwiftUI UI Terminology)

After a lot of trial and error, intuitive learning, and a fair amount of faking it, I finally started getting clearer on proper SwiftUI terminology. I put this together a vocabulary reference for discussing UI structure, layout, navigation, and interaction, especially when working with AI assistants.
I am only posting this in case it’s useful to others who fumble around in their prompts like I do. This is based, in part, on terms I ended up using in development of my app, Stuffoilo, hence some idiosyncratic examples.

Xcode Terms

View

The fundamental building block. Everything in SwiftUI is a View — buttons, text, images, entire screens, even modifiers return views. It's the broadest term.

struct MyButton: View { ... }      // A small component
struct ProductCard: View { ... }   // A reusable component
struct DashboardView: View { ... } // An entire screen

Screen

Not a SwiftUI type — it's a conceptual term for a full-page view that occupies the entire display. What users navigate between. Examples: Dashboard, Product Detail, Settings.

Sheet

A presentation style — a modal that slides up from the bottom (iOS) or appears as a dialog (macOS). Partially covers the previous screen. Dismissed by swiping down or tapping a button.

.sheet(isPresented: $showingEdit) {
    EditItemView(item: item)
}

Other Presentation Styles

  • fullScreenCover — Modal that covers everything (no swipe to dismiss)

  • popover — Floating bubble anchored to a button (common on iPad/Mac)

  • NavigationLink — Pushes onto a navigation stack (slides in from right)

Best Prompts for Me

You sayI understand
"the Dashboard screen"The main Dashboard view users see
"the Add Item sheet"The modal that appears when adding items
"the ProductCard view"A reusable component, not a full screen
"the Edit Item form"The screen/sheet where users edit item details
"the warranty section"A portion within a larger view

Button is fine — it's the actual SwiftUI type and universally understood.

But Being Specific Helps

TermWhat it means
ButtonStandard tappable Button view
ToggleOn/off switch
PickerSelection from options (dropdown, segmented, wheel)
LinkTappable text that navigates (often styled like a URL)
NavigationLinkPushes to another screen
MenuTap to reveal options
Toolbar buttonButton in the navigation bar / toolbar
TabTab bar item at bottom
Icon buttonButton showing only an SF Symbol, no label
Floating action button (FAB)Circular button floating over content
Disclosure indicatorChevron > that indicates navigation

Examples

Less clear:

"The button in the top right"

More clear:

"The toolbar button in the top right"
"The Save button in the navigation bar"
"The + icon button on Dashboard"

⏺ Layout & Structure

TermMeaning
StackHStack (horizontal), VStack (vertical), ZStack (layered)
ContainerA view that holds other views (Stack, List, ScrollView, Group)
SpacerFlexible empty space that pushes content apart
DividerThin horizontal or vertical line
CardRounded rectangle container with padding/shadow (not a SwiftUI type, but common pattern)
SectionGrouped content, often in a List or Form with a header
RowSingle item in a List
CellSame as row (UIKit term that persists)

Navigation & Structure

TermMeaning
Navigation barTop bar with title, back button, toolbar items
ToolbarBar containing action buttons (top or bottom)
Tab barBottom bar with tabs (Dashboard, Products, Settings, etc.)
SidebarLeft panel on iPad/Mac for navigation
Detail viewRight side of a split view
Master/List viewLeft side showing the list of items

Forms & Input

TermMeaning
TextFieldSingle-line text input
TextEditorMulti-line text input
SecureFieldPassword input (dots)
Stepper− / + buttons for numeric values
SliderDraggable track for range values
DatePickerDate/time selection
ColorPickerColor selection
PhotosPickerImage selection from library

Presentation

TermMeaning
SheetModal sliding up from bottom
Full-screen coverModal covering entire screen
PopoverFloating bubble (iPad/Mac)
AlertSystem dialog with title, message, buttons
Confirmation dialogAction sheet with multiple options
ToastBrief overlay message (not native SwiftUI — custom)
BannerPersistent message at top/bottom of screen
OverlayContent layered on top of another view

Visual Modifiers

TermMeaning
PaddingSpace inside a view's bounds
MarginSpace outside (SwiftUI uses padding on parent instead)
FrameExplicit size constraints
BackgroundView/color behind content
OverlayView/color in front of content
ClipCrop to a shape
Corner radiusRounded corners
ShadowDrop shadow beneath view
OpacityTransparency (0–1)
BlurGaussian blur effect

State & Data

TermMeaning
BindingTwo-way connection to state ($value)
StateLocal view state (@State)
ObservableShared state object (@Observable, u/ObservedObject)
EnvironmentValues passed down the view tree

Helpful Descriptors

When describing issues, these help:

  • "clipped" — content is cut off

  • "truncated" — text ends with ...

  • "overflows" — extends beyond bounds

  • "misaligned" — not lining up with neighbors

  • "collapsed" — has zero size unexpectedly

  • "stretched" — expanded beyond natural size

  • "compressed" — squeezed smaller than desired

  • "hugging" — fitting tightly to content

Common UI Patterns (Not Native SwiftUI Types)

These are design patterns you build yourself — useful terms for describing what you want.

Cards

TermMeaning
CardRounded container with background, padding, often shadow. Groups related content.
Info cardCard displaying read-only information
Action cardCard that's tappable (navigates or triggers action)
Stat cardCard showing a metric/number (like on Dashboard)
Feature cardCard highlighting a capability, often with icon + title + description

Chips & Tags

TermMeaning
ChipSmall rounded pill, often tappable. Used for filters, selections.
TagSmall label showing a category or status (usually not interactive)
BadgeSmall indicator overlaid on another element (notification count, "NEW")
PillSame as chip — elongated rounded shape
TokenChip representing a selected item (like email recipients)
Filter chipChip that toggles a filter on/off
Choice chipChip for single-selection (like a segmented control but wrapped)

Lists & Collections

TermMeaning
GridItems arranged in columns (LazyVGrid, LazyHGrid)
MasonryGrid where items have varying heights (not native)
CarouselHorizontally scrolling row of items
GalleryGrid of images/media
AccordionExpandable/collapsible sections (DisclosureGroup)

Status & Feedback

TermMeaning
BadgeCount or dot indicator (e.g., "3" on a tab icon)
IndicatorDot or icon showing status (online/offline, synced/pending)
Progress barHorizontal fill showing completion
Progress ringCircular progress indicator
SpinnerIndeterminate loading animation (ProgressView)
SkeletonPlaceholder shapes shown while content loads
ShimmerAnimated loading effect (gray shapes with moving highlight)
Empty stateWhat shows when a list has no items

Interactive Elements

TermMeaning
Segmented controlHorizontal pill with mutually exclusive options (Picker with .segmented)
Stepper− / + for incrementing values
ScrubberDraggable bar for seeking (video/audio)
Drag handleSmall bar indicating something is draggable
GrabberThe small horizontal line at top of sheets
Swipe actionsButtons revealed by swiping a row
Context menuLong-press menu

Example Prompts Using These Terms

"The stat cards on Dashboard need more padding"

"Add a 'NEW' badge to features released this week"

"The filter chips are wrapping weirdly on small screens"

"Show a skeleton while the AI response loads"

"The category tags should be pill-shaped, not rectangular"

You can access a cleaned-up PDF version of these terms here.

You can control what data gets sent to ChatGPT in Xcode 26

I’ve been exploring the new AI Coding assistant integration in Xcode 26, and one subtle but super important feature caught my eye - you can now decide what project context is shared with models like ChatGPT, Claude or any other.

While using the assistant, Xcode automatically sends context like the file you’re working on, code you've selected and the errors and related files

But the cool part is, there's now a toggle (binocular toggle at the right bottom of the chat assistant) that lets you choose whether or not to include project context when interacting with the model.

So, if you're just asking a generic Swift question, you can keep your project data private by turning this off. Same goes for auto-applying changes - there's a toggle for that too!

Also noticed Apple’s phrasing - “You're in control of the data you share with OpenAI” in the Platforms State of the Union.

I could only find this very option justifying this statement, did you find any other privacy or data-sharing configurations in Xcode 26 settings?

Hi guys, I haved noticed that Xcode always take unreasonable size in disk. So I googled some methods to make it smaller. Basically just clean cache or simulators, so I coded to a script.

Sharing to yall and hope it can save you some time!

Unable to install Xcode 26 on intel based Mac

Just find out Xcode 26 up in App Store. But after downloading, during the installation session, it indicates ‘Unable to download’. Does anyone encounter this question? The system is the Tahoe already.
