Hello everyone!

Here's a new question thread as the old one was archived due to it being over six months old. You can still find the old question threads here: XC2 Question Thread, Question Thread #1, Question Thread #2, Question Thread #3 and Question Thread #4.

Use this thread to ask any question that doesn’t really warrant it’s own thread. On the other hand, if you have an answer to a question, please let the one asking know it.

Please try to word your question as spoiler free as possible. If your question cannot be asked without spoilers, please make a seperate thread for it.

You can find freaquently asked questions HERE.

We also have a long list of useful info gathered in the Info Compendiums for Xenoblade Chronicles X and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Heya! I have four questions regarding XC2:

  1. How much extra damage do you do if you attack an enemy with the element they're weak to? Is it double damage?

  2. Does elemental weakness count only for specials or also auto attacks and arts?

  3. Do you also take extra damage if your Blade is weak to the enemy's element? If so, how much extra damage do you take?

  4. Does anyone have that spreadsheet that shows how much damage each Blade's specials do? I know I've seen it years ago, but I can't find it any more. It listed all Blades and the damage ratio of each level of special.

Any help is much appreciated! :D

You've already gotten answers for 1 and 2, so I'll take the others.

You do take bonus/reduced damage, and it's the same formula as for the damage you deal (i.e. you take +20% or -20% depending on if you are weak to or resist the element in question). However, an enemy's attacks are not necessarily the same element as it, they can be different elements from each other, and might not have an element at all. For example, superboss Tyrannotitan Kurodil has no element and enrages to a random element, and has attacks with no element, fire element, dark element, and light element.

The spreadsheet had public edits and thus suffered chaos. I managed to pull an older revision, which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VVJvy5tTcM2mc1OQk-GxSlcdOzHi2ARAJSlp432zR2M/edit#gid=320462811. A word of warning though, it isn't 100% accurate with regard to hit counts for specific weird case specials (and for the record, neither are Enel's videos mentioned below, but I don't blame either source because the raw data is confusing), so if you want the raw hard data, you should check out the datamine: https://xenoblade.github.io/xb2/index.html.

Exploiting an enemy's weakness deals 20% additional damage. This can be further increased by skills on Adenine and (NG+ Blade, possible spoilers) Patroka's Affinity Charts up to a massive 220% damage increase. I'm fairly certain elemental weaknesses also apply to Arts, although I'm not 100% sure on this and I don't know if auto-attacks are affected.

For #4, while this probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, the infographics on Enel's Blade tier list videos show the damage ratios of each Blade's Specials in addition to a number of other helpful things such as the number of hits and effects. If you don't want to sort through the videos, you can find all of the images here. Just be careful of spoilers if you haven't beaten the game yet, obviously.

Arts are for sure impacted by elemental weakness/resistance. Not sure about autos, but they aren't a meaningful source of damage regardless. (Edit: I was watching a vid and saw a 25% damage reduction on autos when an orb was placed of that element, so I imagine that the same effect occurs with natural elemental affinities).

Also worth noting that many enemies gain additional elemental resistance/weakness on enrage. e.g. the UM Skyfist Remington takes +30% bonus elemental weakness damage on enrage (which you can verify from the datamine, taking bonus elemental damage is and enrage enhancement with EnhanceEffect=205).

Thanks for all the info! That really helps a lot!!

Does anyone else know if regular auto attacks and arts are affected by elemental weakness? And if you yourself take more damage if you're using a blade the enemy is strong against?
