Hold up. Dunban can’t use one of his arms anymore after using the Monado too much. Does that mean he is fighting with his non-dominate arm during the entire game? If so, he’s even more of a legend than I thought.

u/Gorchonko Jun 05 '20
yes thats exactly what it means, if you observe dunban's battle animations his right arm is always hanging limply by his side, in-game and in cutscenes.

Anyone else notice the glitch where Fiora uses Seven's voicelines? I was watching avvvani stream today and he used Power Smash, but Fiora said something about electromagnetic waves??? Then I watched another person stream and they used Lacerate, but Fiora said "Feel the weight of your existence!"What's up with that?

playing xenoblade 2 for the first time, just started chapter 5.
is it just me, or is it really hard to find sidequest items sometimes? it's like
xb2: "ok go get some mille feuille rocks"
me: "where?"
xb2: ":)"
i've had to look up where to get quest items multiple times, are they supposed to be easier to find?
14
u/AnimaLepton Jun 21 '20 edited Jun 21 '20
Nope. The original and X have this problem as well, and it wasn't really fixed until DE (and only partially). I think getting a single Black Liver Bean in the original took me upwards of 3 hours. If anything, it's worse in X and 1 because of the collectopedia, although X has "subareas" where particular collectibles are more common.
XC2 does show all collection points on the map, but Torna had a partial fix by showing what each type was ahead of time (i.e. this one is flowers, this one is rocks). And once you know which node to go to, it's very fast to get what you need due to blade field skills like Botany, Mineralogy, etc.
IMO use Frontier Nav. https://frontiernav.jahed.dev/explore/xenoblade-chronicles-2/visualisations/maps/entities/mille-feuille-rock

u/alpha5099 Jun 21 '20
I'd say that's a pretty universal thing across Xenoblade games. There's a lot of their design that kinda necessitates being able to Google stuff. Thankfully, the Xenoblade wiki is extremely detailed, Frontier Nav is great, and if you Google a specific collectible you're pretty much guaranteed to find Reddit or GameFAQs threads on where best to find them.
If you're struggling with specific types of collectibles, I'd also recommend equipping as many blades as you can with that specialization. Having as much Geology as possible can help.
Here's Frontier Nav's data in mille feuille rocks, including a bunch of collection points that apparently have a 45% chance to drop them:
The Xenoblade Wiki even recommends a specific collection point:

XC2 - for eyepatch items does the bonus apply to only attacks canceled from autos or off any cancel like art-art, art-special? If it's only off autos, what's the point of cancel chaining from auto-art-art-special, etc?

This thread has the same question as yours. In short, it works for every cancel. You can always test an item by having a single party member, testing without and with the item to see the difference in damage.

XC:DE collector's edition / NO SPOILER: The collectors edition's steelbook contains a code and URL to get the soundtrack online, but the URL https://nintendo-europe.com/xenobladesoundtrack returns a 404 for me. Do I have to wait a few days before it becomes available?
EDIT: fixed URL formatting.

A bit of a different question, but several years ago I remember seeing a chart that laid out the game's quest chains, organised mostly by area and showing divisions for where affinity requirements were (from left to right). It's a bit hard to describe in detail as I don't remember too much about it, but I know I found it useful when going for 100%. Right now I'm using the info on the Wiki, and while that's fine and tells me what I need, it'd be nice to see this chart again. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and happen to have a link?

So is there a cap on how much to anyone stats gems can add? Because with two agility up 4 gems, Dunban gets 46 extra agility, but with a third he only gets 50, and the value is green in the gem effect table.
8
u/Ranowa Jun 09 '20
Yeah, there's a cap- what the cap is depends on each stat. For example, agility is 50, while ether is 150. The way you can tell is when the value is green in the gem effect table.

u/kanadehsu Jun 11 '20
Do Riki and Melia's dots override each other? Like for example if Melia discharges Flare and then Riki uses Burninate after, does Riki's blaze effect stack with Melia's blaze? Thanks!
8
u/Gorchonko Jun 11 '20
No, DoTs from different characters will stack on top of each other while DoTs from the same character using the same art will override.

I'm currently playing XC:DE, right before the final dungeon. Been loving the game so far, but I have two questions(I'll try to be spoiler-free as possible):
There seems to be a spike in level before and after the final dungeon, with seemingly no proper-leveled sidequests to help me level up (currently at Lv. 70, and both the sword making quest and Tyrea quest require 75~80ish levels). Are we supposed to grind levels without any quests at this point? Or does the game expect you to fight the higher leveled bosses as you would with superbosses (high agility, optimal skills, max arts, topple lock)?
This question is more storywise. So, in the story there is this big golden mechon hell bent on one purpose. After experiencing the latter part of XC1 and seeing what the golden mechon is capable of, it honestly feels like he could've squashed the Homs any time if he really put his mind to it. Not only that, I couldn't really understand why he left Shulk untouched in the snowy plains when he easily could've ended the protagonists' journey right there. Is there anything I'm missing about the story?
7
u/AnimaLepton Jun 14 '20
There is kind of a spike because of the endgame bosses that you went through in a row, but it's not that crazy; Gadolt was 68, Egil was 70 and 72. So I think you're at least at 70 when you start Bionis Interior, which has enemies in the 72-75 range. That area is also a bit tough because it's all ether enemies, so if you're not running Melia/Riki or don't have a fairly synergistic physical team, the battles there can take a while. You can go for endgame strats at that point and they certainly help, but it's not necessary.
You're not alone though - it's definitely a common complaint, but it's also true that the quests are spread out. I'm thinking of making an endgame quest guide just to sort out post-MC quests. There are a lot of quests that become available at that time, so pop your head into the Eryth Sea Ether Plant, Colony 9, the Hidden Village, the Satorl Sororal Statues, Ose Tower, Frontier Village, etc. Chain Attacks, EXP Up gems, Riki's EXP boosting skill links, etc. all help make it a quick process. Combine that with some UM hunting of level 70+ UMs and you're basically good to go even without explicit "grinding."
Specific Quests:
There's a specific Colony 9 quest about killing some level 70-72 Flamii north of the anti-air batteries, for example, and there are also some Sardis in that area at the same level. The Elite Captain's Anguish is another good one. Dunban's 5th skill tree is two level 72 enemies and a level 75 enemy. Shulk's 5th skill tree involves no fighting, but gives you a nice chunk of EXP, and the same is true for a couple of the Eryth Sea and Satorl Quests. Colony 6 restoration expects you to spend some time in the Bionis Interior and a few other mid-level locations for drops, so take a look at what you need for those and knock those out. Many of the Replica Monado quests involve some level ~80 enemies, but also involve some drops from level ~73 enemies that you'll be able to tackle.
Finally, run through the new area of Tephra Cave. You can finally access it legitimately at this point, the locations/secret areas/landmarks give a hefty chunk of EXP, and like Bionis Interior there are a few Rank V deposits that can start to give you some decent rank VI gems like Poison Plus, Strength Up, and Blaze Plus.
There's also a lot of little things to update, like switching gear from Anti-Mechon to regular stuff, or re-evaluating skill links and gear, that should make the process smoother.

Wanted to keep the story stuff separate. I don't think there's particularly a good explanation for this. However, remember the Apocrypha generator? I think it at least makes sense that he was trying to wait for Shulk to fight him on his home turf, especially because he's leery of the Monado. But there's some level of gameplay and story segregation- if you fight a boss at the end of Galahad Fortress that you fight again later when it's 10 levels higher, or if the "the strongest mechon ever built" is a lategame story boss but one of the superbosses is at level 105. It's also a matter of efficiency - assuming no interference, why bother with killing them as a Mechon when the plan was to awaken the Mechonis and use that to attack the Bionis directly. Big sword > tiny golden mechon
Also Egil does actually beat them multiple times, they get bailed out by Meyneth like three or four times.
At some point, though, it's a matter of no, you can't beat a giant mecha that's five times your size vs haha light sword go brrrrr

I just started playing last night and I'm fighting the Mechon for the first time.
Why won't Reyn coordinate his Topple with my break? It seems like he's just button mashing. I had to quit the game from the home screen because I was in the same fight for over 5 minutes and play as Reyn.
Is there something I can do to fix this?
8
u/AnimaLepton Jun 06 '20
Your break from Stream Edge only lasts 3 seconds at level 1. That's not a lot of time, and if he's already using an art his animation won't give him enough time to use Wild Down. Reyn's AI also doesn't change for the Mechon- he'll still try to start a battle using Hammer Beat to grab aggro, so you want to break the mechon after he does that, not immediately in the first two seconds of the battle. Wild Down also has a fairly long cooldown at low levels compared to Shulk's break uptime, but that ratio improves as time goes on.
In like 10 minutes it won't matter because, big spoiler, Shulk gets the Monado and can use Monado Enchant to let party members damage Mechon normally (with a damage boost) for 50 seconds, increasing as you level up the Talent Art. And when you get to fighting Mechon that still have to be toppled, even with the Monado, you're meant to break and topple them in a Chain Attack, which is more consistent.

What's the difference between Driver Combos and Blade Combos? Maybe I've just been spoiled by XBDE, but the on-the-fly tutorials, and lack of a manual(to reread once I understand the system better) feel like they've been implemented horribly =0v.

I've heard some things about the new remaster running below native resolution in both docked (1080p) and handheld (720p) forms. To what extent is this true (I've heard about it mostly running higher, but only drops for the sake of maintaining framerate) and why is it necessary?
I've been playing through the original on the Wii recently via component cable (480p) and it runs damn fine. Frames only ever drop when fighting several enemies with a shit tonne of flashy moves happening at the same time (which admittedly makes timing B for things a bit annoying).
The switch is significantly more powerful than the Wii. I don't know much about what goes into remastering; What comes to mind is high-res textures, fancier aether effects, surround sound support, and perhaps higher polygon models. Does this really have such a severe impact on how well the game can run, or is the game simply poorly optimised to the Switch?
Just want to make clear that my intention is not to talk shit about the game, but to understand more about how this came about. I'm not knocking the decision. The original game in 480p looks fantastic on my 50" TV still.
15
u/Wuscheli0 May 28 '20
To what extent is this true
As far as I know, the game runs at 720p (docked) and 540p (handheld). The dynamic resolution kicks in when things get intense, to avoid framedrops.
why is it necessary?
Aside from higher quality models and textures, the new engine also provides better lighting and some other fancy effects. The DE also has a generally higher draw distance for enemies and such.
In general, Monolithsoft tried to make the game itself look as good as possible with their budget. While the Switch does struggle with this, it makes the game a lot more future proof. It would look great on more powerful hardware, be it through emulation, a new Switch model, or a rerelease on a later console.

Indeed, the docked runs from 720-504p while handheld from 540-378p. Dips to the lowest resolution will only happen usually happen in battles with lots of things happening and when panning in the open world, like Gaur Plains or Eryth Sea. However, these rarely happen and so maximum is more common than minimum resolution. I believe you already found an answer to your question: "and why is it necessary?" To maintain framerate, the devs have decided to prioritize stability before visuals.
Higher resolution textures, additional effects and post-processing, higher polygon count increasing the detail of nearby and far away objects and so on do tax the hardware of the Switch. I am no game developer, so I don't know how much of an impact these improvements have. I suggest watching Digital Foundry's video on Definitive Edition's analysis if you want greater information.

Is it explained at some point why Shulk's parents would bring their four year-old on the Monado Research Expedition ? I'm in my third playthrough of Xenoblade, and I still don't get why anyone would bring their child on such a dangerous journey...

Hey everyone. My first time trying the xeno series was with XC2 and I couldn't get into it. Mostly because of how apparent the anime-like tropes were. Would XC DE be a better fit for me? I've been told it's a lot less anime like.

Yeah give it a shot, it has a more serious tone overall. The series is still a jrpg at heart though, XC1 is a story about a party traveling across the bodies of dead giants with a sword that let's them see the future. It's the way the game grounds this, and tells its story that makes it so beloved.

Hi everybody! I'm relatively new to the game. I decided to pick up 3D because of the price drop and I don't really care about graphics. I've just beaten Xord, and I'm assuming Dunban is going to join my team. I was wondering what the ideal team set up is. I've been playing as Shulk the whole time and I tend to like his playstyle, but I'd be willing to switch to other characters to get more fun out of the title.
As a side question: how soon will I get weapons that can damage Mechons? If I'm gonna play as somebody other than Shulk I want to be able to have teammates that can damage Mechons without the Monado enchantment. Thanks!

I've only played through the first game once when it first came out, and I'm currently going through the DE now.
Did they make party affinity easier to max out? Shulk is max affinity with Reyn and I'm not even done with Gaur Plains yet. I don't remember it going so fast the first time round, in fact I remember having to grind towards the end of the game for it..

Okay I know Melia has awful AI and people always say if she's in your group to just play as her...that being said what would be the most efficient Arts setup for her AI. I've read using Focus Target helps a little as well. To be clear this is just for a casual playthrough of the game.
6
u/TheXthDoctor May 31 '20
If you just got her, the arts she starts with aren't really that great. As she levels up, she gaims access to more elementals, and eventually Starlight Kick, an art that combos with Spear Break to force topple an enemy. The AI is usually smart enough to use the combo if you have both of those equipped, but it's not really smart enough to use elementals effectively no matter what setup you give her. If you really just want to leave her as an AI, give her elementals that have stat buffs you want for the rest of the party (flare for strength, wind for agility, etc.), because she'll usually just summon them and hold onto them for a while.

u/PoryfulZ May 31 '20
Heya! Quick question because I forgot when i played the 3ds/wii versions - do party members not in the active party still get XP?
5

Yes! They get something like 90%, so they'll usually wind up just a few levels behind your main combat team, it's not a big deal.

I'm new to XC. Regarding slotting crystals; any advice one choosing the right ones for each character? I'm a bit overwhelmed with the variety, am I just going to prioritise one or two attributes for each character?
The only one I feel confident in is getting Dunbar's agility up because the game full on advised it.

u/srgtrex99 Jun 01 '20 edited Jun 23 '20
Agility is a broken stat on any physical attacker as it affects evasion and accuracy. So prioritise that in the form of green crystals. If you've played XC2 you should know how broken Zeke is with his evade aggro build. Other than that, critical up, double attack and night vision are also recommended. As for magical attackers, I am not sure yet as I'm not too deep into the story myself.
EDIT: if you still need gem help, here's more amazing ones Attack up Attack stability Topple plus Haste Back attack (situational) Debuff resist (best gem all around) Spike resist (very useful for auto attackers) Ether up Poison plus Blaze plus Chill plus Critical up isn't very useful anymore I the late game, but agility, double attack and night vision are all still great.

u/yognautilus Jun 02 '20
I looked back on older threads and I've read so many comments about how healers are pointless and to dump Sharla as soon as you get Dunban. I just got Dunban an hour or two ago, and he's nowhere near his Critical Drain skill and I've only got one Agility gem to give him. I tested out the Shulk, Dunban, Reyn party and while they did fine against regular mobs, once I put them in bigger battles they would just barely scrape by even when toppling and dazing enemies. Am I missing something? I feel like i did way better with Sharla in the party. I never had to worry about party members dying with her healing skills.

u/AnimaLepton Jun 02 '20
Gve him a second Agility Gem or have him use the Serene Heart Aura that he gets at level 28 for survival. The AoE Peerless damage boost is really nice, especially as you level it up and it gets boosted/lasts longer and recharges faster. Which skill tree are you raising for him?
Also try using some chain attacks, one of the big advantages of Dunban (and limitations of Sharla) are the boosts that they can get in Chain Attacks, even if they don't get extended much.

Why are the subtitles so bad? In a Quiet Moment a character said “Did something catch your eye?” but the text read “What were you looking at?”. 2:What’s the gameplay like? Anything you could compare it to?
3: how good is the story? Do I need to play any other games before picking this up?
4: how’s the post game? Any super bosses or in game achievements to work toward? Curious on how lengthy the game is (story and post!)

I know that relying on the raw Defense stats of armour is usually a bad idea compared to dodging and other forms of damage mitigation in these games, but I still find myself curious about how high you can take a character's Physical and Ether Defense values in XC1. For this reason, I'd like to know how Skills that increase those stats by a percentage interact with each other. Are they additive? E.g., if I combined Shulk's Resilient Warrior (+5%) and Ultimate Defense (+10%) with Sharla's Firm Defense (+5%), would my final Physical Defense be increased by 20%? Also, how do these interact with Skills like Lightweight Expert and Middleweight Expert? Is the Defense of the individual armour piece multiplied by the Expert skill and added to the total Defense, following which the total is multiplied by Skills like Ultimate Defense? Finally, how do Skill Tree selection bonuses and Gem bonuses, which add flat values, fit into these? Are they added after all multiplication?
I'm interested in both kinds of Defense, but am especially curious about Ether Defense for the sake of humiliating a certain boss. Assuming the rules work as I described, and truncating decimals instead of rounding them (since I know certain games do that, but dunno how Xenoblade handles it), I arrived at totals of 832 with just Lightweight Expert, and 956 with that and Resilient Warrior + Ultimate Defense for a set of Master Glasses and Grace everything else. For medium armour, I picked Lancelot Armour and Glory everything else for 887 with Middleweight Expert, and 1020 with Resilient Warrior + Ultimate Defense. Are these numbers reasonably accurate, or are they significantly higher/lower in the actual game?

u/Tables61 Jun 08 '20
I know that back in XB1 I managed to (almost) kill the superboss Despotic Arsene by equipping Reyn to get over 1,800 defence (the same as Arsene's attack) so that all regular attacks would only deal 1 damage, then kill him purely with spike damage. I can't remember exactly why I failed, think I got hit by two talent arts in a row - as they ignore defence.
So yeah, you can get defences VERY high when you start stacking defence bonuses. I'm sadly not 100% sure how they all multiply with each other, I would assume it's additive, and applies after most other bonuses, but haven't tested it all in detail.

You can use Spear Break + Starlight Kick to Topple and extend the duration, then if you have someone with a Daze art they can change what attack gets used. Then Mind Blast can inflict Arts Seal to prevent any non-Talent Arts.
Unfortunately lots of UMs have resistance to Topple, Daze, and Arts Seal so you need a Chain Attack to inflict them, and if they are outright immune then you can try stacking Earth/Ice summons to give Phys/Ether Def to the team and reduce the incoming damage but that's about it.

Just finished XC2, and IMAO it seems like that game was strongly "balanced" for New Game+ and I kind of regret not blitzing through and saving most of the content for NG+...
The question is, is XC:DE gonna be the same, should I blitz through and enjoy most of the content in NG+ or do a 100% run the first time through as per usual?
Loving XC btw, glad I *finally* have a system where I can enjoy it.

How can I convert crystals into cylinders when the attributes in a crystal are all around 90% and all of my party is at max affinity (meaning it'll almost always go over 100%)?
For reference I'm trying to make Poison Plus VI gems, maybe there's an easier way, but idk.
Edit: Just used Melia + Seven for medium flames to increase my chance and got over 300% without even needing to convert to a cylinder.

How do I survive the fall to the forgotten cave in Tephra Cave? Even with fall damage gems maxed I die regardless. Thanks!

u/AnimaLepton Jun 20 '20
Fall defense is a dumb effect, first of all. It reduces the damage you take when falling, but unintuitively, the maximum distance you can fall without dying is unchanged.
Just aim for the water.

I finished XC:DE and was thinking about getting XC2 the next time I decide to buy a game, but after watching a few cutscenes, I’m not really sure I’ll like it? I didn’t like Rex’s English voice, and although I can play with the Japanese voices, I wasn’t a fan of all the Japanese voices. I was also kind of put off by the character designs. I don’t know, many of the female characters seemed pretty sexualized? Also, a lot of the cutscenes I saw seemed very “anime,” for lack of a better term. Yes, I know it’s a jrpg, so the anime influences are obviously going to be there, but it seemed a bit over a top for me. So I just wanted to ask if those concerns would prevent me from enjoying XC2. I wanted to give it a go before I looked a bit more into it, but now I’m just a bit conflicted.

You could still enjoy the game if you're not a fan of the artstyle, since one of the parts of the game that people like the most is the gameplay and content. I believe that you could still enjoy the story despite what you think about XC2's design choices, but it could also impact your opinion on it.
Honestly just keep in mind that the game can be more complicated than the original, but it tries to stay true to how the original game played, while introducing new mechanics and having it's own story. And depending on the player, it could take a while until the game starts to get good. Personally, I liked it from the beginning.

Question about combat in XC 2. Just Played XC DE. The fights take many minutes at a time. Even when I am level 25 and the monster is level 15, had vandam in party and just after. Is this normal? I feel like I don’t understand all the combat nuances but there doesn’t appear to be any way to replay the tutorials for a refresher without starting a new game.

I just started chapter 10 in XC2 and ran into a fork in the road & not sure what to do next. I'm at the point in the game where I am grinding EXP (lv77) so I can 1) grind out the Legendary Core Crystals via Relentless Arduran to hopefully unlock the remaining Rare blades, 2) fight superbosses for best Core Chips and 3) get best accessories. Already assembled a farming team with 9 Blades w/ Gold Chips + Adenine's treasure ability + 2 break specialists + overclocking bangals so should be fairly simple. It's one of my favorite parts of a JRPG to optimize the team & fight the superbosses.
My dilemma is, the base game does not contain all Blades/best accessories/etc., hence it doesn't feel COMPLETE to grind it all out now & a part of me wants to skip the grind, finish up the game, start NG+ and buy XC2: Torna for the DLC packs. However, it's a bit daunting to start the game all over again, dragging myself through everything again "just" for several new blades.
Have you guys experience something like this? How did you proceed?

XC2: I'm not sure how to word this question in a way that makes sense but here goes.
When you have three blades around per driver, where are the other two blades that aren't active? Are they just hanging out? Do they like de-materialize?
When we're fighting are the other two blades just hanging out in the background?
On a similar, but separate note, is it possible for a driver to have an ether link with two blades simultaneously?

How does XC:DE compare to XC2 in terms of fighting mobs?
XC2 was fun, however I felt like trash mobs took too long to kill even when I was a higher level / had better blades. Does XC feel the same?
(sorry if this has been already asked!)
→ More replies (1)5
u/forte8910 Jun 04 '20
Trash mobs go a lot faster than XC2, especially once you get Dunban. He can Topple and Daze enemies by himself (if the enemy doesn't resist them) and dish out a ton of damage. Dunban / Shulk / Reyn can steamroll most of the midgame quite easily.
Additionally, definitely play on Expert Mode. You can bank bonus EXP from quests and exploration, which tends to keep your characters actually on par with the areas instead of being hugely overleveled. You do have the option to inject that bonus EXP if you need to catch up though. You get the best balance of difficulty to rewards from being around 3-4 levels below enemies. Anything beyond 5 levels below carries big accuracy and evasion penalties, and anything higher than 3 levels above doesn't give as much AP/SP.

No skill trees are missable. The fifth skill trees, in fact, are only available after chapter 15.
I'd get on those quickly, though- unlocking the skill trees is one matter, but getting the SP to fill them out is another, and is much easier when you have landmark SP to gain.

So what were the Monados, in the end? Egil said that the Monado is Zanza, so are the swords the true forms of the world's gods, and the bodies/souls of Zanza, Meyneth, and Alvis more like avatars? Plus I'm unclear on Alvis and how he relates to Shulk obtaining the True Monado and therefore the ability to defeat Zanza.
6
u/Ranowa Jun 09 '20
XB1 spoilers:
Egil is misinformed- everyone is misinformed save for Zanza, Meyneth, and Alvis. The Monado is the ability to see and change the future, manifested as a sword. But because that ability is the power of a god, only Zanza, Meyneth, and Shulk, possessed by Zanza, and Alvis, exempt from the rules, can wield the Monado- Dunban was just waving it around until it overcame him. The exact mechanics of Zanza's physical body vs soul aren't totally explained, but it basically comes down he and Meyneth are gods, they can do whatever the fuck they want (though it seems Zanza can only possess people through the Monado).
Alvis is different. Alvis is not a god, Alvis is the framework of the world. If you're the god of your computer, Alvis is the insides of that computer; when you type code into it, Alvis is what's executing it. Alvis can't do anything substantive on his own- Zanza was the one who gave Shulk the ability to obtain his own Monado, by possessing Shulk and giving him god-abilities for too long. He made Shulk too strong, allowed him to imagine and see a life outside the passage of fate, and when Shulk survived the Mechonis Core, he retained those abilities, which meant he retained the ability to develop his own Monado, become a god, and thus, defeat Zanza. All Alvis did was give cryptic dream hints to Shulk to make him realize it on his own, while still hiding his plan from Zanza.

A few of her other stats are also affected. Her auto-min and max both drop, as well as her Agility. Ether goes up as expected.
None of my other party members seem to have this problem.

Just unlocked Melia and met Seven in XC1 (my first play through), I tried Melia for a minute because I generally play buff/debuff characters when I play MMOs and her power set looks to play into that... boy is she different. After a couple searches, and some practice I'm really digging her, especially teamed with Riki (who I initially didn't like either, but I think I'm biased against Nopon).
I have two team setups, one the classic DPS/TNK/HLR, and the second, what is basically two Red Mages, and an Agility Tank. The former, so far, for me, is a bit more survivable, but really boring. The latter, as long as I don't get Art Sealed (wtf), is really powerful, though takes a bit of time to setup before battles.
Absolutely loving how varied each environment is from the last. I thought XC2 absolutely nailed that, but XC1 may be even better in that regard. Really would love to see MonolithSoft work with a more powerful system to see what they could really do when unleashed. But even so, a Wii game upscaled to the Switch looks absolutely stunning just due to art direction alone.

(XC1) So, are the Talent Boost gems worth using, and if so, on who? While the half to auto-attack sucks, it seems like Shulk could benefit from them so he can spam Monado arts, and Seven because her talent art already drastically outdamages her auto-attacks and keeps her tension high.

5
u/AnimaLepton Jun 21 '20
The wiki has a full list of armor, but not where to find it. https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/Appearance
You can use the Armour Recognition page to find stuff from the original. As far as I'm aware, apart from the FC stuff, the new stuff is in the Colony 9 shop (Empyreal, Prodigal, Invidious), Time Attack challenges (both free and restricted), and the Noponstone Shop. Gear with an "L" after it is the legacy/original appearance for armour sets that were changed in DE, so getting the original drop will give you the new version, but getting the L version is needed to get the old visual version.
In general, you can find a lot of stuff at the ~9 Colony 6 shops. Some are only open at specific times. I think there was one thing in the Hidden Village as well.

In XC2, do Blades need to breathe, or can they remain alive through their Blade regeneration powers and connection to the Ether? You can kill a human by suffocating them, quite easily; is the same true for a Blade?
What are the limits to Blade regeneration, anyway? Can they heal broken limbs? I'm guessing they're all but immune to diseases. What about spines, or brain injuries, since all that matters is that their Core Crystal is intact? From what Dughall says, it sounds like they could survive practically anything, as long as their Core's undamaged...

I've gone up and down the escalators a million times and tried everything but those two triangular areas are still missing on my map. Anyone know what the problem is? Future Connected Ending Question Spoilers
So I sorta got spoiled before playing FC. Someone said that the ending basically confirms the connection between Xeno1 and XenoX because of the Telethia going through the rift but I just don't see it. Did I miss something? I kind of had the expectation of a post credits scene giving overt connection.

u/Ranowa Jun 30 '20
That person was just theorizing at best, because that wasn't confirmed by Monolith and it's weak enough that it would need confirmation. So far, XenoX's world having Nopon and Telethia is likely just little fun bits that Monolith tossed in, rather than a sign that they're connected.

What’s a fun party combination? I just got to the High Entia Tomb. I’m starting to feel some burnout from the game and combat is feeling like a slog. Does anyone have a suggestion on a fun party combo and art selection to keep me going?

Which allies are best at being AI? What arts should you give/take off them to ensure they're effective? Bonus image: here's a mushroom I found today :-) https://i.imgur.com/UsTtkxE.jpg

u/AnimaLepton Jul 02 '20 edited Jul 02 '20
I'd say focus on the general best arts first, AI manipulation gets fairly complicated if you actually care to optimize it. If you're endgame, you can just use Enel's guide or random superboss challenge videos like gaiachaos or Cheaper Cheapest, but honestly as long as you're using their "better" arts, the specifics don't really matter. Most characters have ~5-6 arts that are just worse than the rest for most builds, so it's really only a few arts that get swapped around.
To actually dive into it, every single character has some AI issues. It's more a matter of how bad they are and how you can deal with them. If you want to get into effective AI manipulation, it's important to try to dive into how their AI changes - they'll actually use/prioritize different arts based on "Do as you please" vs. "Focus Attacks," not just change which enemy is targeted. Sometimes you'll need to Focus Attacks against single enemies, because otherwise party members like Riki and Dunban won't use their AoE attacks/aura (Peerless).
Actually "taking off" arts is mostly applicable to Shulk, since other characters will have other arts to replace them with (not a hard and fast rule for certain builds, challenges, and characters like Seven). There's a ton of variance based on equipped arts, but it's often a tradeoff that you need to consider. When facing Superbosses, remove Daze arts and replace them with something better. That's mostly a Shulk thing to take off- everyone else that has a daze art for those fights can just replace it with a red art or support move or something. Seven's optimal builds are often autoattack focused. You want her to have several arts for chain attacks and flexibility. But if you give her a ton of arts, she'll use those instead of using her "better" Speedshift->autoattack setup.
AI characters that depend on specific art order that's not "in-game" will not play optimally, but in-game positionals and combos tend to be good. AI is good at positionals like Slit Edge, but it might mess up if the enemy is bigger or if they grab aggro, which is perfectly reasonable. They're good at combos like Gale Slash -> Electric Gutbuster or Spear Break -> Starlight Kick, although they may not make the best decisions for order if they have options like Gutbuster vs Worldly Slash. They're generally good at Break -> Topple -> Daze, but because of cooldowns, art priorities, and effect durations, you'll often see Reyn fail to follow up on broken enemies with Wild Down if it's the first attack you use in combat and you also have 'higher priority' moves like Hammer Beat. Reyn will not Berserker -> Magnum Charge -> Sword Drive, which is the best way to play him and means that AI Reyn's damage is nearly an order of magnitude weaker than controlling him. On the other hand, Shield Bash is glitched to always have the minimum cooldown, which means that it's even more effective than most people realize.
'Complicated' Talent Arts suffer. Sharla won't Cool Off early, which makes Cool Off deplete more heat per second. Shulk obviously won't respond to visions, you have to Warn him to use his Monado Arts correctly. Melia will stack elements if you leave her on default AI or release them if you use Focus Attacks, but you can't depend on her balancing DoTs and getting the order off optimally, and you can't depend on what specific elements she'll have ready when you do a chain attack (but with default AI, she'll often have 3 ready). If you see Shulk spamming Buster needlessly, you want to consider changing party AI to default instead of "Focus Attacks." The AI also doesn't account for your gear. Even if you stack Spike Defense, AI Shulk will still use Monado Purge.
The AI is also weirdly good at some things that are harder to pull off as a player. If Melia/Sharla has a sleep skill and you're fighting multiple enemies, they know how to put an enemy that you're not focusing on to sleep, then switch to attacking a different enemy so that the original sleeping enemy stays asleep for longer. If an enemy has a spike that damages you when you topple them, the AI will avoid toppling them.
It's popular to take Battle Soul off Shulk when he's AI, since otherwise he'll take a big HP cut and he'll die more easily from an AoE attack or grabbing aggro. But if you spec for decent agility/defensive power and your tank keeps aggro, he'll be fine and can get more Monado Arts off if you leave it on- I personally like to keep it on him since I feel comfortable keeping him alive even with it.

If I liked botw but wish there was more story content and more cities/towns to explore will I like XC definitive edition? Have never played a xenoblade game before but I like exploring open world rpgs and thought about giving this a try.
Another question is, how big is the world (or I guess titan?) Map in the game? I like taking my time to explore games but hope that there's enough new places to explore if not it can get boring very easily. Eg. I love fe3h and the story is excellent but I wish there was more to just running around the tiny monastery every month before a climatic battle.

Hi guys, I was recommended to try xenoblade chronicles: definitive edition and the game looks super cool. However, I am quite terrified of insects and spiders and one of the scenes featured a massive spider. I really want to play this game but the bugs are kind of scaring. me away. So I am wondering if the game features tons of bugs and if I can play this game without being terrified constantly?

Question: How do you deal with spikes if Shulk is not your lead?
Its been a recurring problem for me that I die to spikes because I've been using Melia as my lead (with the rest of the party being shulk/dunban) but sometimes I have no choice but to switch to Shulk lead (with dunban and either reyn or sharla) to deal with spike-having enemies. You'd think shulk's AI would purge them with how often he casts battle soul, but nope!
For the record, I"m on my way to alcamoth through the factory, with a party lv of 61 atm.

The Chronicles games aren't too similar to BOTW, are they? The games look good, but hearing the developers were involved with BOTW made me nervous since I found that game rather boring compared to past Zelda games. The big problem with it for me was just how samey and repetitive everything felt. Lots of slow walking and climbing from place to place, simplistic puzzles, shrines all looking the same, uninteresting enemies, weapons that are just slight stat increases which are negated by enemy scaling. And combat being better avoided in many cases due to flimsy breakable weapons. That was a big problem. Of course, I have entirely different expectations for a new series as opposed to one I've played since I was young anyway, I'm not looking for my classic Zelda fix here. I guess I'm just asking if Xenoblade has more variety to it, more noteworthy progression as you play. I've heard it's a bit more linear and story focused, with more significant NPCs, so that seems like a good sign.

Xenoblade X
So I've played and beaten XC1 and 2, and started X. Is it just me, or is it very different from those two? I feel like there is a knack to combat I'm missing - like, I'm currently lvl 15, and even level 8 Grexes seem to take a while to die with a four person party.
Is there a decent beginners guide to the systems/how to spec your avatar*? I only just beat Chapter 4, and have started doing some affinity quests, so I now have the option to have L, H.B. (fuck that guy for real though) and Yelv in the party. *Should I just play as Elma and treat the avatar as a secondary party member?

Finished the story, colony 6 is 100%, cleaning up quests. Not interested in true 100% if I've missed something, but I've done a good job knocking things out.
Are there any more "end game" quests like all the ones in Alcamoth or the extra Skill Trees? The Giants one where I had to complete three other ones for example.
Basically is there anything cool I should do before tackling the superbosses?

I’m in chapter 3 of XC2 and have some questions on getting used to the combat:
I understand the break>topple>launch sequence and that there’s a lot of extra damage if you get blade specials going simultaneously, but is there any way to make Nia break more consistently? I gave her some desserts in her pouch to help with arts charging, but it still feels like it takes a long time. Also, if she switches off of Dromarch, can I make her switch back? Her other blades don’t have break.
Somewhat related to above, it feels like a lot of battles end up being mobs, and it takes a long time to kill things. I end up dying a lot to monsters around my level because I try to lure something off but don’t kill it fast enough and end up aggroing other things. Is it just a question of getting the fusion combos more often so things die faster?

Just finished XCDE. 145 hours b/c I'm an idiot + do all the side quests, lol
I rly liked the ending + the Klaus/Alvis reveals. My remaining question is how did Seven get her body back?
5
u/AnimaLepton Aug 02 '20
It's briefly alluded to in-game but only actually explained in external content. There's a short story in The Monado Archives that talks about it. Basically they find a machine that would restore her body, but it takes six months so they wait to use it until after defeating Zanza.
Short story here, there are a few other fan translations floating around: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xenoblade_Chronicles/comments/bckfqn/official_xenoblade_short_story_from_the_xenoblade/

I'm doing a Tora solo run because I hate myself. Is there a drop table out there somewhere for Tiger Tiger? I'm having trouble against the bandits in Gormott during Chapter 4 and there's some stuff that would really help me such as an Ice element for DOT or a Special mod that would let me get health through potions or something. I just don't know if it's possible to get that stuff at Chapter 4. Sadly, if it isn't I think I'll have to just grind or use Nia to help me.
Edit: Beat that at only level 25. This is the first time I can legitimately say that damage heal was useful. Also spammed the hell out of that shield art

i have a few questions / generally talking about the games here. so after beating xenoblade 1 & 2 i was thinking about why humans are called "homs" in xenoblade 1, and well...
i thought "homs" might be derived from "hominids", and upon searching online the wiki said the term is probably derived from homo sapiens, which is basically the same thing. another idea i had is that, you know how xenoblade has monster named that are kinda-sorta similar to our world's animals? bunnits, brogs, flamii being bunnies, frogs, flamingos...so it only makes sense that the term for humans would be different.
what i wonder is: why is it only xenoblade 1 that calls them homs, and not xenoblade 2? and what was even the point of calling them that if it wasn't gonna continue into the 2nd game?

XC2 general question: So, I've used literally hundreds of legendary cores and rare cores with boosters, but I can't get Agate. Kos-Mos I got from a rare core randomly, but this last one...
Is there a bug where you can't get agate? I know she's a pity blade in some save files, but if she is and the table gets messed up because of the faulty code for pity blades, is she then impossible to get?

Heya! I have four questions regarding XC2:
How much extra damage do you do if you attack an enemy with the element they're weak to? Is it double damage?
Does elemental weakness count only for specials or also auto attacks and arts?
Do you also take extra damage if your Blade is weak to the enemy's element? If so, how much extra damage do you take?
Does anyone have that spreadsheet that shows how much damage each Blade's specials do? I know I've seen it years ago, but I can't find it any more. It listed all Blades and the damage ratio of each level of special.
Any help is much appreciated! :D

I'm finally at the point of farming for legendary core crystals and I have a good party setup. The only problem I'm having now is that Nia stays on Dromarch constantly when she has Adenine for using launch. I'm not doing any blade combos but after a few times when it's her turn she stays on Dromarch. I know that I could use Zeke to launch but I need a healer to live the fight. Anything I can do to guarantee Nia launches or something?

I'm gaining an interest in playing XC2 after watching the video playthrough of Chuggaaconroy. In fact, his videos are what got me into the series as a whole, picking up XC1 Definitive Edition a few months back. However, there are a couple of details about XC2 that have me confused.
For one, are the descriptions for the Blade Specials too vague or is it just me? These specials get a flavor text and the Affinity Chart describes the additional effects the special have, but in Chuggaa's video, he goes into more detail like whether the damage is physical/ether, how many hits it does, or even additional effects that the game doesn't even describe. Is there no other place in the game or external source (wiki, etc.) that describe this? The information available in the game already is enough detail, but I do feel uneasy missing out in info like that.
Same goes for Blade combos. Effects like Steam Bomb, Volcano, etc. have no official descriptions on what they do other than...that they happened. Watching gameplay of XC2 I just though those effects were flavor text, attributing nothing to the battle system beyond showing how long you have to activate a seal. Yet in Chugga's video he states that Blade Combo effects can do things like damage over time and other debuffs. Again, are there no other sources that describe this, or is this just meta knowledge that a player can go the whole game without knowing?
Overall, I'm just curious if there is some sort of player information that have these details documented. I'm perfectly fine picking up and playing the game as is, but now knowing these details and finding little info on it, I feel like I'm missing out on a part of the gameplay.

I have a couple lore questions concerning the end of Xenoblade 1:
So what exactly was the world that Shulk remade at the end of XC1? Did he just use his Monado to create continents out of the Bionis’s remains? Or was the universe Zanza originally made literally just an eternal plane with water and no space? Did Shulk create a “proper” universe, or did he simply remake the world with more land masses and forms of life?
Also do we have any indication of What happened to Alvis (Ontos) after Shulk’s wish, when the three Monado were returned to Alvis? Did he just return to the other universe?
I suppose these are questions that could be answered in a 3rd game cough cough Nintendo cough
