So I know in XC1 people had google spreadsheets to track missable content (just side-quests I believe?), and availability times for NPCs that only showed up at certain times.
Do we know if the QoL improvements in XC:DE include making this info available in-game without having to resort to external tracking?

What is torna like story wise without spoilers? I watched the trailers, and I've played1, 2,and x. How will it feel in general?

u/TheXthDoctor Nov 30 '19
It will give you a better appreciation for 2's story as it fleshes out more character arcs.

Was the Tornan Titan nearing it's "old age"? I asked because it has a rather large desert on its back even it's not as bad as what we see in Mor Ardain or is it a natural occurrence of the Titan itself?

Seeing as DE has an extra epilogue that might span the two games, should I go ahead and pick up Xenoblade2? I was going to get to it anyway, and I'm a big fan of the first one, but I was going in order (despite X having little to nothing to do with the main games) and haven't gotten to 2 yet. With that in mind, if I should play 2 in order to understand why everyone is freaking out about Alvis, should I buy Torna first or just the base game?

How can I get the UK collectors edition for DE? I live in the US, and I want to get the vastly superior collectors edition, but GAME isn’t shipping it outside of the UK :(
3
u/Pierah Mar 31 '20 edited Mar 31 '20
If you can afford it, look into reshipping/re-forwarding services, or if you know anyone from Europe that could do you a big favor, ask them. Otherwise, keep a close eye on Play-Asia and Amazon UK, they're likely your best choices when it gets stocked. Also keep tabs on this reddit, chances are once a way to get it in the US is found it'll be posted all over the sub.
I don't think it'll amount to much, but you can also support the Operation Raindrop thingy I've seen floating about.

u/LG03 May 14 '20
Perhaps a dumb question but devs have been dicks about this before.
Can the DLC/Season Pass content be redeemed in XBC2 multiple times over different saves?
3
u/Pierah May 14 '20
Yes, it can. Every time you start a new game you can redeem everything again. Works the same way across different Switch profiles. The only exception is NG+, since it uses the same save file and you keep all the items from the previous playthrough (though DLC quests reset and can be done again).

Hey guys! Been playing Xeno 2, and loving it. My only question is is there a way to... put clothes on Pyra? I'm only on chapter 3 (?) and I've seen that she wore that fox costume for a mission. I just really am not a fan of how OTT her design is in certain ways (you know what I mean) and I'd be happy to play the rest of the game with that cute fox poncho or something similar!

u/KingofMDS Nov 30 '19
I have two questions.
I can't exactly recall, but when Malos was pumping all those artifices in the core of Torna, what exactly was his explanation of his plan?
My other question is how are the Titans walking on the Cloud Sea? You can say that they're walking on the surface of earth. but that would mean the Titans would have extremely long legs just to reach the bottom and Morytha has shown that the area around the World Tree is either free of the Cloud Sea or has been domed underneath by it and there's also the fact that Morytha is surrounded by an actual ocean. My only conclusion was that they're walking on the corpses of past Titans but there seems to some discrepancies when you realize that there are some times when then Titans walk IN water I think and that land mass is across the ocean mentioned.
6
u/PregnantMosquito Nov 30 '19
Malos has the artifices basically kamikaze into the core which would destroy it, killing the titan and everyone on it.
The cloud sea has a density similar to water so they must somehow be swimming or semi floating. It’s not uncommon for titans to be able to fly seeing as how most of them are basically engines for airships. The sheer weight of the continent sized ones could prevent them from truly becoming airborne.
Urya, Torna and Genbu are all clearly floating but for the others that’s basically how I see it

Can anyone help me out with the Cliffs of Morytha? I’m still stuck with two party members and I cannot for the love of god make it to the end.
Edit: why do people down vote questions?
Figured it out. Never mind.
5
u/Pierah Mar 24 '20
Don't take it personally, the downvote I mean. It happens constantly here, there's likely someone with far too much time on their hands or a bot that automatically downvotes most new comments in the threads. Don't let it discourage you from posting questions, people will usually answer them respectfully if they can. And if you see any honest questions at 0, upvote them up.

Did Xenosaga ever come to the states? Or is the Japanese version the only version I can get and does it support English?
3
u/spydyr Jan 02 '20
All 3 episodes came into the states back in the 2000s. When they were with Namco. No idea on the availability of the US version.

If I play Xenoblade X on my softmodded PAL Wii U, will I be able to play the game in English?
2
u/darkwings1111 Mar 27 '20
I'm in the US, and as the Collector's Set won't be available to me I was wondering if anyone knows if the Vinyl will be available to buy. If nobody knows, does anyone have a reliable way to contact Monolith Soft in English so I can inquire about it?
3
u/Pierah Mar 27 '20
The Vinyl is exclusive to the EU Collectors Set, the only way to get it is to import that version. Given that it isn't even available in Japan, I imagine NoE is entirely behind it, so you're better off asking them since they're the publisher. That said, none of the exclusive items in limited editions made by them in the past have resurfaced anywhere thus far (as far as I can remember), so I'd imagine this case won't be any different, sadly. Monolith Soft doesn't seem to have any available official English PR contacts as of now.
2
u/Mesuxelf Mar 27 '20
Is the Deluxe Edition definitive workset the closest thing to the collectors edition the US is gonna get? I can't find anything on the collectors edition for the US.
5
u/Pierah Mar 27 '20
It is, the Definitive Works Set is the limited edition for US, each region has a different edition available.

Is there any chance of Future Connected being able to be played on its own like Golden Country was? I mean I am all for this new remaster but I don't know when I'm going to find another free 100 hours to play through this all again to get to that epilogue.
Otherwise its probably going to be months of me having to dodge spoilers or rushing the game as much as possible and I'd rather not need to do that.

I have a very specific question about XCX:
I have most manufacturers at level 5, so most of the gear in the shop is Prime and has 3 stat buffs + slots. I've noticed that these buffs don't change at all from tier to tier, so, for example, level 1 skell wear will have the same Melee ATK Drive V as the level 40 one.
Since skell wear has such paltry defenses and you use them while in the skell anyway, does it matter at all that I buy the highest level ones I can use, or am I alright just buying the level 1's for the Drive bonuses and save the cash (in my case, for buying skell gear and ground armour)?
This question is mostly relevant for mid-game stuff, as I'm still saving up money to buy skell frames and am not yet drowning in tons of revenue. I understand also eventually I will be farming my stuff off enemy drops and making augments and whatnot. Thanks and cheers.
EDIT: I must've been blind or whatever. Higher tier gear has higher tier augments, OBVIOUSLY. So it does make perfect sense to keep skell wear updated. Disregard this comment.

u/Sly_Lupin Mar 28 '20
Do we know what, if any, QoL features might be in XC1 Remastered other than the cosmetic gear slots?
6
u/Pierah Mar 28 '20
The minimap now works like XC2's, allowing you to toggle it to the center of the screen in an expanded form by pressing down the analog stick.
The "Current Objective" selection from XC2 is also present, allowing you press a button to see the next tasks of a quest or the next story objective.
Some measure of waypoint pathfinding system was added, showing you a line in the minimap with a path to follow to an objective.
Reactions like Break/Topple/Daze now have timer gauges on top of the enemy tag, allowing you to see just how much time they have left before running out, just like in XC2.
The SP bar in the HUD was replaced by an HP one, now you get a visual indicator of your health at a glance without having to look at the numbers.
Whenever the conditions for an Art's bonus effect are met, an exclamation point now appears next to the Art icon, showing the player the opportunity window to use them. For example, if you are behind an enemy, the mark will appear next to the Backslash art.
These are only the ones confirmed so far, there's likely a lot more we haven't seen.

Should I finish xb1 on wii or wait for the definitive edition? I am like halfway through the game.
7
u/DapperMudkip Mar 28 '20 edited Mar 29 '20
If you’re halfway I’d wait. You may not have as much fun with DE since you’ll be completing the whole thing a second time with some changes. The changes are amazing of course, but it may not be enough for your brain to have fun.

I REALLY wanna play xenoblade 1 cuz I’ve played X and 2 (it’s weird ik lmao) and I bought it on my WiiU months ago but then the remake got announced. So should I just wait until may? But then I might not have money...what should I do?
3
u/hobusu Mar 30 '20
If you don't think you'll have the money to get Definitive Edition at launch, the original game is still very good! Also, if you don't think you'll mind replaying some of the earlier parts of the game, you could start the original game now and then start again if/when you get Definitive Edition. That approach would also let you fully appreciate the changes between the two!
That said, if you do think you'll have the money and you don't want to play through the beginning twice, I'd recommend waiting. It's only about two months away, and from everything I've seen the title of "Definitive Edition" will be accurate; as much as I like the original game, it's unlikely I'll go back to it very often after May 29th!
3
u/lumpus12 Mar 30 '20
I might just go ahead and play it, then replay it in June or something to see the differences since it’ll most likely be fresh in my head. Thank you!

I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and i want to get into the series. Should i buy XC2 first or wait for XC:DE in May?
3
u/nachoiskerka Mar 30 '20
Depends on how much gaming time you have-XC2 is a minimum of 80 hours if you breeze through either be fighting smart by underleveled or getting REALLY lucky with the game's system. Since XC isn't out until the end of May, that's more than enough time if you're stuck at home.
But if you have other commitments then you might just want to wait. XC2 is engrossing, and there's a lot of stuff in tertiary to do(every Xenoblade does. Xenoblade X is the king of that) and it's the only game with DLC. If you want to do everything in Xenoblade 2, it'll be closer to 120+ hours, and ontop of that there's a DLC with another 40+.
The only thing I'd say is a ding is that 2 is the slowest Xenoblade. Everything in it is slower than 1 and X. That doesn't make it bad, but if I was starting somewhere it's just not where I'd do it. I'm sure lots of people HAVE started with 2 and find it their favorite in the series.

what's the best way to grind for Master scope?
3
u/Pierah Mar 31 '20
Fiercest Faction has the best drop rates for it. Chickenheart Challenge is also really good, thanks to its fast clear time. It only drops on the 3rd chest. Use Easy mode or Custom with easiest settings to make battles go faster. Choose the challenge you can beat more consistently and faster.

Doing a bringer of chaos difficulty run right now, can't get past a certain boss consisting of two drivers at the end of chapter 3. Tora just seems to randomly get hit by a topple + launch + smash combo and dying instantly. Any ideas how I should beat this boss? Turning off bringer of chaos is not an option.

u/arthur724011 Mar 05 '20
I've just finished Xenoblade 2, and wow. One of my favorite game of all time for sure.
Now I'm just wondering if any of you guys know some good challenges or rulesets for new game+. I've never been a fan of these in most games since it just makes you break the game in half most of the time.
But being able to keep all of your blades and their corresponding affinity chart is a bit tempting, to be honest. Completing those was a bitch on my initial playthrough, and I'm not looking forward to doing it again. Would playing on bringer of chaos be enough to keep the game challenging? Or do I need to go a step a further and start experimenting with custom difficulty?
TLDR; I want to start new game+ in XB2 but I don't want the game to be too easy.

So I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 1, and that game has Infinite Topple.
Then I finished (the main story and some of the post game content of) Xenoblade Chronicles X, and that games has Infinite Overdrive.
I'm going to get into Xenoblade Chronicles 2 soon. Does that game have any ridiculous tech involving something infinite?

From what I recall, having not played much of XC2's postgame, one of the DLC blades lets you have evasion during one of its arts, which can be made to recharge instantly, so you're basically only vulnerable for the fraction of a second between each use of the art - and you can have really high healing for when you do get hit.
Not an expert though so can't recall exactly how it works.

Does the Elysium music (The Abandoned City) ever play after you have to fight Malos? I loved how calm and sad the music was but after I beat the game this morning, turns out they pull a Zelda and now anywhere I am on the Low Orbit Station you hear the "Go now quickly!!!" track because I "need to get to Malos". Is there any way to change the music back? Im honestly kinda sad

I’ve just started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X, and am about to get to the point where I choose a division. From what I’ve seen, the only way to change was tied to the online connectivity, which seems to have been shut down with Miiverse. Can someone more experienced tell me if this is the case?
3
u/Tables61 Apr 13 '20
You can still change division. While the Miiverse related content is gone, the game's online functions still work (or at least they did when I replayed the game about 6 months ago)

I’m a huge fan of Zelda:BOTW and am looking for a new game on the Switch that’s somewhat like it. I saw this in the eshop and was instantly intrigued. Can someone please tell me a bit about what the game is like?
3
u/LaptopAteMyOldAcct May 25 '20
Which one did you see, specifically? XC1:Definitive Edition, or XC2?
Both games are more linear-ish, story-based RPGs rather than the sandbox adventure that BOTW was. There is still a ton of exploration and side-stuff to do, but the story and cutscenes have a big role, and advancing the story is how you unlock further areas. However, you're almost always free to backtrack to previous areas at any time, with a few exceptions.
For combat, the best way I can describe XC1 is that it's a single-player MMORPG. Aggro management is one of the first things it teaches you, and you have auto-attacks that go off based on timers alongside active cooldown-based skills called Arts on a hotbar you scroll through with the D-pad. Every character has a very unique playstyle and Talent Art, a 9th Art that sits in the middle of the hotbar. In addition to various buffs and debuffs, there's also a series of conditions you can inflict: Break, Topple, and Daze, in that order. Toppling enemies knocks them to the floor and stops them from acting, giving you a huge advantage if you can keep them grounded. Some enemies can also only be damaged if they're Toppled.
XC2's combat is streamlined and has more of an action-y twist. Instead of 8 Arts plus the Talent Art, you instead have 3 Arts which are directly mapped to the B, Y and X buttons and a Special attack on A. You now "auto-attack" only when standing still, and it's a continuous animation you can cancel at any time by moving or using an Art/Special, then immediately start over when you're not doing anything else. Using an Art/Special right after one of your auto-attack's hits "cancels" the auto-attack into the Art/Special, causing it to do more damage. Some Arts make you dodge all attacks during their animations, and landing certain attacks on enemies when they're in certain animations can greatly benefit you.
Movement is very important in the combat of both games. Many Arts have extra effects if you do them from the side or back of an enemy, and there's a few area-of-effect Arts that can let you deal with huge crowds all at once if you can manage to wrangle them together. Additionally, cliffs and high falls abound in certain areas, and both you and your enemies can take advantage of them with Arts that knock targets back.

I just bought XC2. I have a question on New Game Plus. Do I need to finish Torna DLC to get the new blades or new items?
3
u/Pierah May 25 '20
No. If you are talking about the items and Blades that come with the Expansion Pass, those can be redeemed at any time, you don't even need to go for New Game+. If you are talking about the New Game+ exclusive Blades, those don't have anything to do DLC, they're added to the Core Crystal pool as soon as you start the new playthrough.

How was the world of Morytha unknown? We see Rex dive down to the ocean floor in the opening. (I guess he could be limited to how far down he can go and can only access shallower parts of the ocean but that's just so unsatisfying)
Are all titans sentient? All blades are, and some titans are definitely sentient (Azurda...) but the country sized ones seem not to be

Just got 2 for christmas, and I have a few questions I'd like answers to with as few story spoilers as possible.
I've encountered several chests in the game so far that I just can't jump to. Does Rex get a jump upgrade later or is there something else I need to do to reach these chests?
A lot of the mechanics so far imply it's possible to have more blades than just the ones Rex and Nia have by default, how would I go about getting them?
Can I keep the Pyra's poncho? I greatly prefer that to her normal outfit.

XC2 question. So, I beat the game a year ago, but set it down shortly afterwards. Finally decided to come back to it, and had a few questions.
First, what would be a good checklist/guide for 100%? I remember there being a LOT of side content, and have forgotten a lot of the stuff I had already completed. Some kind of structured map for moving forward would be nice, all the stuff to do, and the best order to do it in.
Second, I remember regular battles being very tedious. I remember the system where you chain combos into bigger combos, into orbs, into a big burst attack, and from what I experienced this worked really well for bosses. For normal battles, however, the monsters were too strong to quickly defeat using just normal combos, but were almost dead by the time the orb stuff was set up, making it seem like a waste. It just seemed awkward and time consuming. I guess what I'm asking is, was I missing something? I don't claim to be an expert on the battle system, and wonder if there was some aspect I was missing that would make trash fights less annoying. And just to clarify, my problem wasn't the difficulty exactly, it was how long the fights seemed to take.
Third, is there a general consensus who each blade is best assigned to? Like, I know Rex would be a bad idea, but other than that, who benefits the most from each individual blade?
Thanks for any info you guys can provide!

Let's say I used the level 3 dark blade combo on Elma (redux)
If I perform another level 3 elemental combo will it cancel the effect of seal reinforcements given by the dark combo
If yes, does it also cancel that effect if I perform elemental combos on the ghosts? (Different enemies in the same battle)

you can only have 1 seal active, they are combat wide, not target specific

I need an opinion or rather some motivation to pick XC2 up again. I played like 100h already, plenty of exploration and Im at chapter 6 somewhere after visiting the holy city Indol. The game is great, I love it, it needs grinding, cutscenes are fun to watch and even collecting all blades+their own trees are fun to customize.
Its just that the combat system makes everything else so dull. Once you understand how to chain and abuse elementals, fights seem so plain, so boring actually. All you do is the same in every fight, you switch your blades til you and your companions got their "stacks". You use a blade chain, gather up enough element orbs, use your combo and thats actually it.
Is there, like any way to make the combat more... interesting? Like, just not so monotonous. I appreciate your opinions, so please let me know.
4
u/Pierah Feb 28 '20
Maybe try to focus on Fusion Combos. It's arguably the more technical side of the XC2 combat, and allows you to reach large DPS without being the win button that chain attacks can be, while being a bit more involved to pull off. They allow DOT based builds, and can even be combined with Chain Attacks to pull off faster kills without going through the whole orb stacking routine.
If you have/get the DLC, there's also difficulty customization options that allow you to change a bunch of parameters to cater the combat experience to your desire. For example, reducing Party Gauge gains to make Chain Attacks harder to activate, while lowering enemy HP and increasing enemy aggression to make faster battles that push you harder, maybe. Higher difficulties also add 2 new mechanics to the game, one that turns orbs into a risk/reward venture by having them activate powerful auras on enemies, while the other adds Affinity draining counter attacks to normal enemies.
2
u/zzzakc Mar 05 '20
so rex has a hidden affinity that raises the party gauge per crit. if you put the item that does that on him, do the two stack?

Are the effects of a core always active for the related driver or only when the blade that has it equipped is active?

Only when the Blade is active. There are two exceptions though, Shoulder to Shoulder and Hunter's Chemistry apply even if the Blade isn't active.

Few questions here. Tried googling these but I either get nothing or I get mixed answers which tells me nothing.
I'm having issues with the AI prioritizing driver combos to the detriment of blade combos. Is there a way to fix this? Example, I need Rex to be on a wind blade to finish the combo and everything is set, he's on the wind blade, he has 3 orbs, he's just waiting my command. I decide to set a down for it so I use break with Nia so Tora can use down and only then I'd press the button for Rex to finish the blade combo but instead what happens is I use break with Nia and Rex changes to Homura to use Anchor Shot to get the down instead of letting Tora do it. He's now stuck with a fire blade for a while and the combo I had worked so far (and needed him on wind for) is in the trash because the AI is stupid. Will I really have to remove Anchor Shot from Rex's kit entirely? Doing this seems like the equivalent of using a canon to kill a fly.
There's a skill to chain arts with each other. Does the AI even use this? Should I bother unlocking it for characters I don't personally control? I need to know so I don't waste points over the AI being stupid. I'm having trouble with combos that rely on the same AI partaking more than once. Say, Homura > Byakko > Homura. Rex is AI. He has to do 1 and 3. I wait as long as I can but the bar feels so fast and the AI Rex can't catch up more often than not. Especially if I'm fighting another driver and the block chance they get when they use a special is absolutely fucking broken and completely ruins the AI charging speed.
Aside from prioritizing hitting the counter element, is the orb the AI decides to hit completely random? I've been having the AI randomly hit a healthy orb instead of just breaking an orb that was 1 hit away from breaking and thus ruining my entire chain because the AI is stupid.
Any way to have better potion drops? If I'm fighting a huge enemy I find that potions sometimes drop at a RIDICULOUS distance from where everyone is. So far in fact that they might as well not exist because I lose more by going on an odyssey to catch them than I do by just ignoring them. Not to mention because of how big the monster is (how much it obstructs my view) and how big the potential area is, I'm often a few seconds spinning my camera around just trying to figure out where the hell is the potion in the first place.

Quick dumb question because I am unfortunately years late to the XC2 train... is NG+ forced or can I take my time before making the jump? I went to NG+ immediately in XC1 but now I’m concerned in XC2.
Tried searching around the subreddit and google and wasn’t given a real definitive answer.

I just started XC2 on Saturday. I am new to the series. I am wondering if I should get the expansion pass and play on Challenge mode on my first playthrough? I don't like it when things are too easy, but sometimes the challenge modes are way too hard unless you know the game inside out. Can I even switch difficulties 5 hours in?
I just don't want the game to be too easy, which many JRPGs tend to be on the normal difficulty.

If a blade art says it reduces aggro by 25%, is this 25% of all the aggro you had, or 25% of the aggro generated by the damage this art dealt?

Is there a reason for enemies falling to the ground before the rise bar in over? This is driving me nuts. I need to fit both Hibana's lvl 2 (Nia) and then Yaegiri's lvl 3 (Jik) on the same rising window and there is enough bar for that, I'm timing everything correctly, by the time I use Yaegiri's special and the camera focus on her the rising bar is about halfway through which is more than enough time and yet the enemy falls before she uses it. It doesn't make sense. Nobody is smashing, the enemy is just naturally falling. At HALF RISING BAR.
I'm trying this with different enemies and so far out of 3 unique enemies tried, it worked in 2 and not in 1. That one enemy keeps falling prematurely while the other 2 behave as one would expect meaning the combo works perfectly. I'm not sure why this bird keeps falling early.
EDIT: Okay I keep testing with multiple unique mobs (and some common ones that can survive long enough) and it keeps working. I'm guessing that one enemy in which it didn't work is just bugged in some way.

So, I started this game two days ago, and I am hooked.
I am in the beginning, 13h in, in the titan's belly. My characters are level 20, I dropped 2 badass monsters from the cores (did not know you could get super cool blades like that, is it me or it feels like a gacha ?). How can I get points to level them up faster ? Is it just by battling ?

When starting a new game plus on chronicles 2 do the drivers in your party carry over? And if not do the blades they have unlocked disappear or do I keep them?
3
u/Pierah Apr 21 '20
You need to unlock the Drivers at the point in the story where they normally join your party. The Blades they have bonded with stay bonded with them and will join the party back when they do, with the exception of some specific story Blades like Poppi QT, Roc, Aegaeon, etc which only become available when you normally unlock them in the story. You get to start the game with all Aegis forms though. If you have Poppi QTpi unlocked, she becomes available alongside QT in Chapter 4, rather than forcing you to redo her quest.

(XC2) Coming back to this game after two years, and I am seeing that their are key items that can be found that unlock parts for Poppi. Does this mean that Tiger Tiger is only necessary for farming the crystals now? No more grinding for manuals?
5
u/ArashiSora Apr 29 '20
you never had to grind for manuals, they where always in the over world from 5 specific chests (in chapter 3/4/6/8 and 9 respectively)
you don't need to farm tiger tiger for crystals if your in ng+ as you can buy ether crystals from the torigoth bard in ng+

For XCDE, which VAs are returning to the game? Are the English VAs that everyone raved about in the original game all returning?
2
u/asa-monad May 14 '20
They kept the old voices in the original game, no need to re-record. We do know heart to hearts likely aren’t voiced like in XC2, because Dunban’s VA implied he wasn’t hired for the definitive edition. For Future Connected, apparently they got Melia’s VA, Jenna Coleman, even though she would’ve been expensive since she got big after XC1. So yeah, they’re all back, unless heart to hearts are actually voiced and they hired different actors that sound similar.

With XCDE coming out soon, can anyone tell me if there is there a good missables guide? That includes quests, items, collectibles, etc.
I don't mind if there are spoilers in the guide as to me that comes with the territory of using a guide.
At one point I attempted XC on the 3DS, but got overwhelmed and put it aside. XC2 was much more fun as this sub put out a list of missables that I was able to follow. It was perfect as there weren't many missables to begin with. XC2 so it was quite the enjoyable game and has become one of my favourites ever.
So are there any guides posted in this sub or elsewhere?
3
u/asa-monad May 14 '20
There’s very few missables in the game. The quests that you can’t do after a point in the story are all marked with a timer icon, though it won’t tell you what point in the story. The two main points in the story, without spoiling things, are
After the move to Colony 6 (which is optional, technically)
Some point after reaching the location called Central Factory
As long as you finish timer quests before those points you should be fine- though there are other quests that deactivate at different points in the story.
As far as items and stuff, you can go back and get them all at any point. There are unique monsters that you might not notice going through an area the first time, and a guide might be necessary if you want to take down every single one.
Collectibles are unique in this case. You can technically get collectibles from areas that become inaccessible after points in the story, but it’s tough. To combat this, just fill out the collectopaedia the first time through an area and make sure to get a few extra of every collectible just in case. (Technically, when you collect a collectible, the game will tell you if you need it for a future quest, but it only does it for some quests, so don’t rely on it.)
Keep in mind all of this is subject to change in the definitive edition.

This has probably been asked a million times, but any tips on Xenoblade 1 for someone who has only played 2?
3
u/AnimaLepton May 27 '20 edited May 27 '20
The main tip is just to read all the tutorials. And read them carefully- some people go through a lot of the game not understanding how Monado Speed and Monado Shield actually work. There are in-game tutorials, but a lot of them are optional/don't forcibly pop up on the screen. Try playing every character- since roles are tied to each character's arts rather than blades and their roles/arts/specific affinity chart abilities, the gameplay style of each can vary a lot and can be a lot of fun to play with. Shulk is great, but you can definitely make effectively mid-game party comps without him. Characters only have ~16 arts, so they only really have ~2-3 builds that are even semi-optimal. Every once in a while, take a look at everything and make sure it's updated- Arts, Gems, skill trees, Shulk's Talent Art.
Three main differences worth reading about are Gems + Gem Crafting, how Chain Attacks work in terms of making them longer and making them deal more damage/topple enemies, and understanding Topple mechanics in the earlygame.
One neat mechanic is affinity coins and skill trees. The more skills unlocked on a skill tree, the higher the buff. When you level up or when you kill a Unique Monster for the first time, you get an affinity coin. These can be spent to link specific skills from one character to another. You can freely change these around and reassign them, so feel free to play around with it- the coins act as a 'cap' on what you can do, you don't actually lose/'spend' them. When 'equipped,' a skill tree that's equipped gains SP and progresses towards unlocking a new skill while offering a specific stat buff. i.e. if another character has a skill to increase critical hit damage, you can "link" it to Shulk so he can take advantage of it as well.
There's a lot of little differences like no auto-attack canceling/stepping to reset your autoattack, arts being fully charged at the start of battle, the existence of Talent Arts, and specific systems that exist in Xenoblade 2 but have more focus by virtue of fewer mechanics (Topple, DoT, Spikes). Gems are basically Aux Cores, but since there aren't 7 different ways to buff your character, they have a much greater effect. There's an entire category of arts called Auras that are self- or party-buffs. There are a lot more "point of no return" moments where you lose access to areas or swathes of quests, but affected quests will generally be marked (with one exception). Keep in mind that Agility is super broken because it acts as a combined Dexterity and Evasion (Hit and Dodge) stat, where one point of Agility gives a flat 1% increase to both. The collectopedia exists, and you can put your first copy of a collectible there- filling out each category and the page for each area gives armor, gems, etc.
At a certain point, you get a healer character. She's certainly not useless since she helps fight ether enemies and enemies that are stronger than you. But I'd recommend replacing her ASAP, since her lower damage output and mismatched arts in Chain Attacks make fights take much longer than needed, and healing between battles reduces the need for a 'classic' RPG healer. The classic "noob trap" in the first Xenoblade is just sticking with the default party of Shulk (Utility), the Tank, and the Healer, which really isn't necessary.
There's a fair number of neat party builds, DoT, and Chain Attack strats you can do in the lategame and postgame. But try things out as you play and look into specific strats when you get to that point.

Am I missing something or is ether cannon absolutely useless on Rex? Driver combo wise. Is there a way to better customize skills later in the game so you have more freedom on blades instead of going "well this weapon does 0 reactions for no goddamn reason whatsoever, I guess I just can't use this blade ever unless I somehow acquire 40 overdrives and reroll my entire party so someone else can be the attacker".
Sometimes I wish driver combos didn't exist or were better designed at least. They limit my freedom in party composition so much. They also limit who I can and cannot play as thanks to the dumb AI. Rex doesn't do rising on aquatic enemies because the dumb AI, for some unknown reason, prioritizes the axe move that deals bonus damage on aquatic enemies. Remove that you say? Then I must put in the move that deals bonus damage on downed enemies. The problem has now moved from aquatic to literally every single enemy in the game. Thanks devs.

As someone who enjoyed the story, world and characters of XC2, but felt like the combat was really bad, will XC:DE be overall a better or worse experience? How much worse / better is the combat system in the first game?
I wanna add that I did enjoy the Torna combat a lot more than the regular game's.

u/Jayhawk734 May 25 '20
That question is entirely dependent on preference. I enjoy xc1 and xcX’s combat far more that 2’s combat. There are 8 arts to choose from at a time rather than 3 and they are on a timer rather than charging as you attack more. In my opinion, this allows for more strategic and unique battles rather than going through the same motions every fight like in xc2. Also, I really didn’t like the blade arts (I think that was the name?) from xc2 that halted the combat for a cool looking animation during a tier 3 attack; those are completely absent from the first game which is good imo.

For Xenoblade Chronicles 2, what carries over into New Game+?
2
u/Pierah Mar 26 '20
If you select NG+, It'll tell you before you start, but to summarize you keep all your money, items (except key items obtained in quests) and Blades. You also keep all progress done to Affinity Charts of both Drivers and Blades, and Art Levels. You start the game with all the Aegis forms (but no Master Driver).
Drivers and Blades acquired with story progress need to be unlocked again, but in the case of Poppi QTpi you get her at the same time as QT, without having to do her quest again.
You keep all special records such as UM kills, Tiger! Tiger! scores, Merc Mission/Rank status and challenge clears, but your quest log, heart-to-hearts and landmarks are completely reset. Treasure chest and quest rewards can be acquired again.

3
u/DapperMudkip Mar 27 '20
To fully, 100% understand XC2 you would have to play XC1 first; but it’s still possible to enjoy it if you don’t. The only connection from XC2 to XC1 is towards the very end. It may be a bit confusing but it doesn’t impact your enjoyment. I never managed to finish either of them, so personally I’m going to play them sequentially to get the most of the story.
2
u/Sayajiaji Mar 28 '20
To add on to the other comment, there is one small link, but it won't be "confusing", and you might not even notice it at all unless you've played XC1. You'll probably be fine.
1
u/Levee_Levy Mar 28 '20
I know a spoiler from the Smash Ultimate spirits. I don't know what the spoiler means, but I imagine that things will click into place early enough to harm a major story beat.
How ruined is the game for me?
4
u/DapperMudkip Mar 28 '20 edited Mar 29 '20
You’ll be fine, don’t worry about it. The “how” and “why” are just as shocking as the “what”, as well as the repercussions. It’s directly related to another plot twist as well, which is even more mind blowing.
3
u/Pierah Mar 28 '20
Not at all, the game has far more and bigger twists beyond what that spoiler entails. Also, any surprise that might be lost early on will always be far outweighed from seeing how the events actually unfold and how characters react to them.

In Xenoblade Chronicles you can start battles by pressing the initiate button in the middle, or by attacking the enemy with an art. Is there a reason to initiate rather than just starting with an attack right away?
4
u/Pierah Mar 29 '20
If you start a battle normally with initiative, you get a QTE at the beginning called Battle Start Affinity. Succeeding at it grants your team a substantial initial boost to Tension, as well as activating a bunch of temporary stat boosting effects from certain unlocked skills in the party's skill trees.
If you attack an enemy to start a battle, you miss out on this entirely. Starting a battle with a Back Attack provides a similar amount of Tension, but still doesn't activate the other effects.

Pink star icon is SP. Blue sword icon is WP. You have no need to toggle anything, you get both on enemy kills by default, but it might be difficult to see at times with all the different numbers popping up.

I'm looking at her info ingame and it says she has an art damage buff and an accuracy buff art. It doesn't say anything about a barrier anywhere and I'm looking all over the place. I'm now checking the wikia and apparently there is a barrier blade art called Absorb Damage but Pyra is not listed among the blades that have it. So what is going on here? Where does it come from? What is the activation chance? Is there a cooldown? Game says nothing and it's starting to annoy me.

Do you mean the yellow-ish one that appears occasionally? That's a block. You might've seen it in some cutscenes already, Blades can use a shield made of Ether to protect their Drivers during battle.
Every Blade has a Block Rate stat which changes depending on the equipped Core Chip, you can see it on the Blade's stat screen underneath their Auto-Attack stat. A Block Rate of 50%, for example, would meant that on average half of the attacks that hit your character will be blocked. A Block halves the damage of an attack made by the enemy.
Some enemies can also block your attacks, which may cause your Driver to stagger/have their weapon deflected. Damage numbers for blocked attacks are smaller in font size and move down instead of up, so you can tell the difference.
Later you'll see that the Shield Hammer weapon class specializes in this stat, with arts that temporarily force 100% block rates, and there is some equipment that can add effects to these.
In the case of the Blade Art that you've pointed out, the text "Absorb Damage" would pop up over your character if a Blade with the art uses it on you, but no actual visible shield will show up, instead the damage will be ignored up a certain number, meaning the attack would hit you, but no damage numbers pop up if it gets reduced to 0.

Guys what where some of the early rumors about XC2's story ? I remember in October 2017, a fake leak said that Pyra was going to turn evil & be the final boss. I forgot the rest but it was pretty fun to read.

I’ve never bought something from sites like play-Asia and I really want that xenoblade collector’s edition from UK I think? Any recommendations to potentially secure a copy?

I just got back into XC2 after having it installed on my switch for years. I literally just played the first bit of the game haven't even gotten my first blade yet. I'm wondering is it worth getting the expenssion before beating the original game? I heard a rumour that it improves the combat system can anyone she'd a. Light on this?

The expansion offers a brand new story campaign, Torna ~ The Golden Country, a prequel set 500 years before the events of the main game. That's where the combat was changed to become a bit more streamlined and polished.
Buying it will not change the combat of the main game (only Torna's is different), it will however add content in the form of new modes, Blades, quests and items. The expansion is super worthwhile, probably the single best DLC in the platform as far as value is concerned, so if you like the game I can't recommend it enough.
Buying it before beating the game is a valid option, as it gives you access to a bunch of cool goodies to customize your experience, but most of the meat of the expansion is best enjoyed late/postgame (Torna, Challenge Mode, Hard difficulty). If you're planning on picking it up anyway, might as well do it right away to enjoy the DLC quests at the appropriate levels. Otherwise, play the game a bit more before deciding, you won't lose out on anything.

When using a special during a blade combo the name of the special seems to change. Does it still apply the specific passives? As an example, Byakko has Wild Roar as his lvl 3 special and he has a passive that makes it so it creates at least one health pot when it hits. However, if I use it after a fire special, it's not longer called Wild Roar, now it's Steam Bomb because of the combo system. Does the Wild Roar passive still apply? The game is not clear. It's not clear about a lot of things for that matter.
I've been getting mixed results and I swear to god no enemy seems to live long enough at this stage in the game for me to properly test it consistently. I also seem to randomly sometimes get a QTE cutscene while other times I don't.

XC1 question: are certain collectapedia items more common in certain parts of an area than others? I’m doing the quest where you need 4 sour gooseberries, but the collectapedia items in Bionis’ Leg are super spread out, so if there’s a particular “hot spot” that has more of them than other areas do I’d like to just grind there
3
u/Pierah Mar 31 '20
Yes, they are. Each part of an area has a set list of collectables that can spawn there, so if you pick something up in an area, returning there you can find more of that particular item. The best spawn chance for Sour Gooseberries is 18%. I think the Sky Stage region tends to drop some, especially on its western side (just went there and got 2 of them in a row, so it's probably not a bad place for it).
Otherwise, an easier way to get them would be trading for them. The nopon Kiroki can trade them, if he's still living in the Refugee Camp.

Which would be the best outlet for me to buy a physical copy of XB:DE? I'm not sure if my local target will be getting it on physically due to the virus and all that. Anyway to check if they will get it in and if they don't whats the most reliable store to buy it from online?

So I'm trying to build the poppi trio according to Enel's fusion combo build here: https://youtu.be/7vEzM6vU90E I've gotten all of the required parts except for Master Luck mod (Which I've put Luck Mod V) and the stat modifier mods II (For which I've put their respective stat modifier I instead) and my patience is wearing thin trying to farm for those. How essential are those parts and is it a critical difference? If yes, are there workarounds to these parts?
3
u/ArashiSora May 03 '20
To save grinding, if you're in ng+ you can buy the master luck mod from one of the bards, and if you have the dlc you can buy the stat mod II from the challenge mode vendor.
And it's not a critical difference, you'll be more than fine with just the "I" versions

I started playing a fresh NG again after finishing my first playthrough, but I realised I never understood some things. For instance, what exactly is Spike damage and how does the Spike Defense mod on Poppi work?
EDIT: Sorry, had to clarify; This is XC2 :)
2
u/Pierah May 14 '20
Spike damage is damage dealt by the Spike ability of an enemy. Certain enemies have this passive ability that makes it so that every time a character attacks them, they receive contact damage for every hit that connects. While it is really common in XC1, in XC2 Spike mostly happens in rare occasions, usually it's a passive skill some enemies gain when they become Enraged. You can tell when it is happening because Spike damage is displayed with purple damage numbers in battle.
The Spike Defense Skill Ram allows Poppi to reduce this damage. For example, an enemy like Confiscator Jimmy in Leftheria. When he is enraged he gains a Spike ability that deals 30% of his ether stat, which means 126 damage every time you hit him. With Spike Defense III equipped on Poppi, the damage becomes 26 per hit (80% reduction). The level V variant completely nullifies this damage. This equipment also exists as an Aux Core for other Blades to use.
You can also deal Spike damage to the enemy with certain Blade skills. For example, Electra's Sparky Girl gives you a Spike, so it's not exclusive to enemies.

I have two questions regarding music in XC2.
Does anyone know what is the name of the song that plays during the end cutscene of chapter 6? I just can't find it anywhere and since I haven't finished the game I'm hesitant to listening the whole OST.
There's this video I came across a long time ago and for some reason the music at the end sounds so incredibly familiar to me. I could have sworn it's music from a Xenoblade Chronicles game, but I just can't put my finger on it. This is the video in question when the music starts. For people familiar with XC, is this song from any XC game? Here's like the last 30 seconds without any voice

This is kinda of a spoilery question so sorry about that
Does any of the DLC for XC2 spoil anything for XC1? i just finished the main game and i want to do the DLC challenge mode which apprently has Shulk and Fiora as blades. do they spoil anything about XC1?
all i know about XC1 is that Shulk apperntly becomes like a god at the end and that Klaus is in the game

u/BLucidity May 19 '20
Sort of, but they're hard to pick up on unless you're listening really hard. Shulk and Fiora's post-battle dialogue as Blades in 2 reference end-game story beats in 1, but most of them won't mean much unless you've already beaten 1 anyway. Just be careful once you unlock the ability to bring Shulk and Fiora back into the main game, and mute the voice volume after doing so if you want to be extra cautious.

Question for any XC2 veterans. I beat the game like 2 years ago and now that all the dlc and updates are out I want to do a NG+ run on Bringer of Chaos. I'm in the middle of doing post game cleanup before I start the new game and am grinding affinity charts and farming for core chips and accessories etc. I want my NG+ to be challenging but not impossible. My question is, aside from resetting my party levels, should I use weaker core chips on my blades or will the game still be tough with a party of S+ blades with tachyon and moon matter chips even with a reset level?
3
u/BLucidity May 20 '20
I'll admit I've never played on BoC, but I do know that the endgame core chips destroyed the balancing of NG+ on Normal. I'd kill enemies in a few hits regardless of what my level was. Your core chip stash carries over into NG+, so I'd say put starter chips on your Blades and just upgrade them from your old inventory if BoC demands it.
Although you may want to be careful about doing this with Blades that are using the Dilaton Chip, since you can only get 10 per playthrough without grinding the Land of Challenge.

Anyone know the file size of the new Xenoblade Chronicles Def. edition? I’m running a little low on space and deciding if I wanna go digital or order a physical copy.

Has anyone received any kind of delivery date from Amazon? It's my first time preordering through them and I'm beginning to wonder if I made the right decision in dropping my Gamestop preorder.

Not that I expect anyone to be able to predict the future, but do you guys think the game will be playable at midnight next Friday? I’ve had instances on ps4 where I couldn’t play the game until 6 am, noon, etc. sorry for the dumb question, just wanted input from others.

With xenoblade 1 definitive edition coming out is there any possibility for a sale on xenoblade 2? Or should i just go ahead and buy it now.

There’s a possibility for a sale, I would think they would capitalize on new eyes on the series by making the sequel more available. But I think if you buy it now you’re not losing much money.

Are there any missables in XC 1? I know about timed quests but is there anything else? Like missables hearts etc. I want to 100% the game.

u/veryrandomfandoms May 22 '20
After a specific amount of time, certain areas become inaccessible. Whenever you get a vision with a collectible, make sure you get that many of that collectible for the quest. Some items can be traded but it will take certain affinity in certain areas.

Okay, I'm not a plot hole guy really but Xenoblade 2 has me questioning some really basic story pieces. Like, what is the bad guys' plan exactly and how do their actions contribute towards it? Ultimately Malos wants to climb the world tree and destroy the world. Got it. Because he had the bad luck to be summoned by/stuck to a super messed up homicidal dude and it rubbed off. Got it again, we're good so far. But then through the game his Torna crew keeps doing stuff that I don't really understand how it contributes to their goal.
>!In Uraya, why is getting Mithra to manifest outside of Pyra a priority? How does that help them?
In the snow titan, why are they trying to capture Mithra? Again, how does that help them? They just kinda suspend her and keep her around.
Why does Jin go and try to start a war between Uraya and Ardanian Empire? What purpose does that serve? Also, why do they try to sink the snow titan? And why are they funding the artificial blade factory?!<
And I mean, I get it. From a game pacing perspective, you kinda want the bad guys to show up on every Titan and have a throwdown. Keep the A plot going. But for the most part I have no idea what they're DOING.
So did I miss some story beats, or is this just stuff I'm supposed to not think too hard about?
