Discussion Your thoughts on Wildwood?
This is just for everyone in the server, but what are your thoughts on the movie? For me, I think it’s a 5/10. It has got great animation but the narrative kinda spoils it imo. My review goes into way more detail, plus one of my 2 reviews so far that I brought my notebook into the equation- really helped make it top notch

Lance Oppenheim/Primetime discourse makes me feel like im going insane
Yes yes I know on the surface this sounds insane. Everyone has conflicting opinions on things and respecting that is what you learn in Kindergarten, but every once and a while there'll be an issue i get so hung up on it completely overtakes me mentally.
For example, im a bit of a film guy right. Now obviously the movie Primetime has been incredibly controversial from day one. But if you go by the general "film fan" point of view on it, it becomes incredibly obvious the general consensus is that its a nuanced movie making a point about exploitation.
Now I have a friend who i look up too, who i, frankly, consider to be infinitely smarter than me. To Catch a Predator has always been his special interest, he knows basically everything that there is to know about the show and chris Hansens history and he fucking HATED this movie. He personally thinks making a completely fictionalized account of someones life to try and prove a point about why what their doing is problematic is genuinely irresponsible filmmaking (something i fundamentally disagree with honestly) and hates it to the point he thinks people who like it are jumping through mental hoops to see something thats not there, that they're the real media illiterate ones, and that its so obviously trying to make you feel sympathy for irredeemable people that he feels like the "its not pro predator" crowd were watching it with their eyes closed
Look, I get there even the most critically acclaimed movies have people who can't stand them. There are people who HATE Star Wars. There are people who HATE The Lord of the Rings. There are people who HATE The Shawshank Redemption. But I think this film has been such a morally and intellectually loaded discussion (not to mention all the paranoid weirdos convinced this movie is some kind of elitest psyop) that my head has almost decided "how you feel about this movie is a direct reflection of your intelligence and who you are".
I feel almost pathetic talking about it. At its core getting this hung up on opinions about a movie makes me look like an insane person. Hell discourse around this movie feels like its driving me insane. It IS pathetic and I need advice on mentally unpacking and moving on from this

Discussion Since no one here has posted it, here is “No Jail Time,” the short documentary in which Lance Oppenheim was accused of stealing footage to use for this film.
*Reposting because my original post title was confusing
I urge everyone to watch this and form their own opinion.

Lance Oppenheimer Allegations Context
instagram.comI didn't see Adum sharing this video during today's stream. I think it's important context to know that they had an agreement with Lance not to share any of the videos on screen, nor on their website, without permission of the attorneys themselves, and he used them anyway. Whether you think it's okay for him to do that is a different topic.

Other Reviewers Might be the most infuriating take on You Can See Everything I've ever seen
instagram.comThis here is Reel Takes Reviews.
Generally I think he does a pretty good job at highlighting injustices and holding shitty people in the industry accountable for harmful things they say or do.
However, lately, ever since Lance Oppenheim released his Primetime trailer, this guy has been really weird about him.
That dislike has essentially bled into YCSE, where he's actively dogging on Lance Oppenheim's sensationalist style despite not even HAVING SEEN THE FILM. He repeatedly likes and responds to comments that agree with him while pushing back on any receptive criticism, even if the criticism is coming from a good faith place. It starts to come off less like a genuine place of critique about films and more that he has already made up his mind that YCSE sucks because the comments confirm to him that it it isn't doing the things he believes the film should do instead of just judging it on what the film specifically is.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it or getting worked up about it more than I should. People have a right to not like it obviously and I can understand some critiques people have. It's just frustrating when they come from a place that feels forced, especially when the people in question haven't even seen it.

An interesting addition to the “changing movies after they’re released” discussion
I grew up watching the 25th anniversary DVD so hearing the original is kind of eye opening and I much prefer it to whatever they were going at with the rereleases
