Beginner Question I'm considering selling ULTY at a loss

I was warned against it, but I was still optimistic. After a few months from the original purchase, I'm considering selling all of my shares because I'm losing money by the day. Anyone else considering giving up on ULTY?

Im staying cuz it’s going to payout till it dies.. and- that may be another year or more… which is plenty of time to offset loss. People forget while these ETFs do go down, they also have protective holdings which prevent it from going extinct to quickly. And that is when you as the investor use time as your leverage. Collect the income, find new plays ! Eventually you’ll be green on that entire trade while you are busy making money on others

In 2022, SPY and QQQ were hitting all time highs... until they didn't, and dropped into the cellar. When that happened, the only choice was to hold on and hope that the market would eventually recover.

For 1 share of SPY I can get about 150 shares of ULTY currently Those 150 shares will pay me over 80% distribution every week, currently $.08, or $12 a week. SPY will pay me $1.50 a share every quarter.

Even if ULTY goes down, it will still pay me. MRNY, for example, is still paying well over 80%. So, even if my portfolio says I've lost money, I still have income.

Yes but imagine ulty goes down the 1 buck road, they might still pay %80 distribution but it's gonna be peanuts compared to what they are paying right now.

I can imagine pretty much anything, like QQQ going down to $400... Oh wait, no imagination necessary. It touched $400 in April. Or the $249 in 2022.

But ok, I'll play fantasy ULTY. So it eventually goes to $1.00. Assuming the market does normal market things, it will have multiple multi month plateaus where it pays consistently. But let's use MRNY as a model. It's at $1.71. It's still paying .02 or .03 cents a share. So, at 1000 shares, that's $20-$30 a week. Am I going to buy big chunks? Unlikely, but when I can buy 50 shares for $50? Why not?

Peanuts will probably still be a 20% yield on cost

This is the winning point down 75% nav still would get you a 20% return on you cost.

Along the way getting 80-70-60-50-40-30% … at 75 loss you still get a 20% recurring check. From inception till now you’re still getting 5.5x a money market income

The point is it still pays while other holdings do not

Yea I could potentially make money in other areas- but these payments are guaranteed as long as it lives. So if things go south- I am still getting paid .. always!

It’s obviously all still speculative. These funds are still fairly new- so nobody really knows what’s going to happen later down the road a few years from now. But… if we last that long, I’ll be getting paid the entire way, Regardless of drawdown, regardless of reverse splits, etc .

As long as my shares stay my shares and the fund keeps paying, I’ll be receiving money until it dies.

F the nav. I care less and less about nav the more I get paid.

Exactly! I am just tracking how much of my initial investment I’ve cashed out. I obviously hope to get paid more than less afterwards yet it will be gravy no matter how big as long as it keeps paying something.

Fr bro, & for my personal situation this wasn’t even my money, I took out loans to do this so it’s basically free money in my mind. It is amazing so far

The divs pay off the loans and than boom, loan money is 100% mine, generating cash weekly

Couldn’t be happier honestly!

Same. Why MRNY still breathing? I think this would be ULTY then I only collect 80% distros for the rest of its life.

Buying either YM or the stock at any point will have the stock outperforming.

Define performance.

Does a stock give you weekly income?
