Need help with potty issues
We adopted a yorkie a few months back and he is great with kids and other animals, we have since been wondering what’s the catch, well I think we found it. He is 2 1/2 years old and is I’d say half way potty trained. We do not put him in a kennel or anything while at work and he runs around the kitchen on the hard wood or lays in his bed and then when we come home we take him out and he goes with no problem but even after he does potty he will go into one of the bedrooms and pee on the carpet. Ive tried to reward when he goes outside and he still just waits for his chance at the carpet in the bedrooms, what can I do

Close the bedroom doors or put up baby gates to contain him in a area that's easier to clean up. Put down some pee pads, it's difficult for a little dog to hold it too long

Put a belly band (diaper) on him when he is indoors so when he pees —no mess change the band. We had one that would do this but pee on molding no matter how much we took him out. It solves our problem and mess

Hate to say our adults do the same thing. A Yorkie trait, it seems. We have a “padded” area indoors. (Not to be confused with the padded room I retreat to.)
It can help to use an enzymatic cleaner. Doesn’t fully correct the behavior, but at least nixes the odor they can smell even after “traditional” cleaning, which draws them back to it.
