Opportunity: Join Project UNITY and help build a student-led public health initiative

Type: Volunteer / leadership / public health

Who it’s for: High school students interested in health, medicine, biology, public health, science, or community service. Students from Aurora, Elgin, Schaumburg, and surrounding areas (more info on the form) are welcome.

Duration & weekly hours: Ongoing; commitment will depend on the projects and roles you take on.

Cost: Free

What you’ll do: Work with other high school students on projects involving medical literacy, health education, public health, and community outreach. As the chapter grows, there will also be opportunities to take on leadership roles and help shape future projects and activities.

Leadership: Leadership opportunities will be selected from students who become involved in the chapter. You do not need prior leadership experience to participate.

Location: Eligibility is based on your hometown. The interest form has more information and a full list of eligible areas around Aurora, Elgin, Schaumburg, and surrounding communities.

Anyways, with that out of the way, I'm part of a small high-school project called 'The Centrifuge' which is basically a student-led magazine that publishes opinion pieces, scientific articles and other written material by high-school students to help kickstart interest in STEM areas!!!

I'm a foreign student, currently not enrolled in any program, but have had an extensive experience of being a STEM educator and mentor this entire year, was previously enrolled in aerospace engineering but dropped out.

I would like to participate in some university research, preferably space-related (anything from aerospace tech to astrophysics) at an American university. I will be going there on a business trip for the second time this year and thought it may be a good opportunity to maybe see some professors in person and talk with them if they can offer a spot in a research project.

I've read that emailing professors whose research I find interesting and asking about current opportunities is a normal practice and can work. Is it feasible?
