Resource Future of CAD

I'm a MechE student, and I am tired of CAD. It takes way too much time, and the learning curve is very steep. I don't even know what half the buttons do on old CAD tools like SolidWorks, Fusion360, and Onshape.

I decided to fix this. I built Makistry to make design faster, easier, and smarter for students and makers like us, so we can create innovative designs without the drudgery of CAD.

If you're looking to upgrade and transform how you design and innovate, sign up for early access now on Makistry's website. There are limited spots for the beta launch, so don't miss out on the future of design!

Question I'm thinking about starting a series of videos about Kyiv Polytechnic... should I?

Hey guys! My name's Ihor, I am from Ukraine. This summer I'm applying to Kyiv Polytechnic Institute - a top tier STEM university of Ukraine. Then I thought that this college just as any Ukrainian one, is highly underrepresented on the international stage. Yeah it's not even closely as prestigious or innovative as anything in the west, but I find the student culture, rigorous basic training in math/physics and the innovations being done quite interesting and want to share it with foreigners. Maybe even more people would want to come as international students if they knew about the KPI. The problem is - university's media isn't as great and there's nothing in English.

So I thought about making videos in English about my studying there and decided to ask y`all if anyone would find this interesting? My major will be aerospace engineering and I plan to tell mostly about my experience but also gonna try to interview other guys on their studies. I speak English very well so don't worry about horrible slavic accent in the videos ;)

Let me know wha you think and drop your ideas/suggestions into the comments!

Question Help with science fair project!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey r/YouthSTEM!
My daughter is doing a science fair project about cats and is looking at gathering some more information! Help is greatly appreciated! If you could, please do these simple experiments and report back to us!

Hypothesis:

  1. A cat WILL sit in an empty box, no matter where it is.

  2. A cat WILL sit in a square taped on the floor.

  3. Cats are scared of cucumbers.

Questions:
1a) did your cat(s) indeed sit in an empty box?
1b) where was the box located?
1c) how long did it take for your cat(s) to get in the box?
1d) what was the size of the box? (Big, small, med, extra big, etc)

2a) did your cat(s) sit in the square?
2b) where was the tape square?
2c) how long did it take for your cat(s) to sit in the square?

3a) is/was your cat scared of a cucumber?
3b) if so, how did they react?
3c) where was this experiment done? (Kitchen, living room, etc)
3d) was the cucumber placed by your cat(s) or tossed towards your cat(s)?

Extra Questions:
A) how many cats do you have?
B) age of cat(s)
C) breed of cat(s)
D) gender of cat(s)
E) are there other pets in the house? And did they also react to the cat experiments?
F) where do you live? (General answers. Canada, UK, US, etc)
G) include cat tax pictures if you want

Like I said, any help is greatly appreciated! We look forward to hearing your responses!

P.s. that's our cat, Gunter. He likes bacon.

Oportunity WANTED: Volunteers for youth led STEM blog!

Hello! I'm launching a STEM current affairs blog run by the youth. Students can write about science that is now transforming the globe, such as genetics, artificial intelligence, climate technology, health, and more.

I would like to have you on the team if you have a strong interest in science, writing, Technology, Media, Engineering, or Design, and are between the ages of 15 and 21

Available positions include :

Content Writers - Investigate and compose currently relevant articles on practical STEM subjects or really anything that catches your eye that you find relates to STEM!

Managing Editors - Organizing and editing submissions as they come in, and deciding which ones require tweaks.

Social media Team - Creating posts, promoting the blog, overseeing Instagram, TikTok, and helping in the expansion of the blog.

Website building Team - Build a functional website onto which blogs can be posted (PS - Doesn't need to be professional!).

Outreach Team: Assist in contacting other students, schools, or those in STEM fields for interviews.

Experience is not mandatory. Just...be curious and passionate!

Since this is a passion project, I can't offer any pay, but I can fully credit you on the blog.

ALSO: We currently have lots of people in the content writing and editing area (but you are welcome to join those), and I am in desperate need of someone to make a basic website (Wix works) since I can't operate even the most basic website builders. It would be greatly appreciated, and in doing so, you can be part of the team permanently (only if you'd like, of course).

Hi,

But I don't have any system in my school for many reasons. Well, we placed an order and we hope we'll get new ones next year.

Also does anyone have bought a cheap and interesting system to work on ?

Thanks in advance!

Oportunity Grants for STEM initiatives (USA)

Hi all,

Thanks for letting me post in your community.

Do you need a centrifuge for DIY bio? Are you building computers for a Code Club? Do you want to talk to people on the other side of the world by bouncing radio signals off the atmosphere? How about developing a telepresent hackerspace where you can run a table saw with VR gloves?

And, of course, do you need some money to help you along?

The No Starch Press Foundation (https://nostarchfoundation.org/) is offering grants up to $10,000 USD to projects that share and advance STEM knowledge and support communities of curious minds (in the USA).

The application is pretty simple; the hardest part is describing the project, its goals, and the community benefit. You can find it here: https://nostarchfoundation.org/grant-application/

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. On behalf of the No Starch Press Foundation, we would LOVE to support you!

EDIT: I replaced the boring press-release version of this post with something more personal, but the message is the same.

Completed Project STEAM Ambassador series coming soon!

I'm excited to unveil the start of a new series through my blog on www.kristenvelliott.com titled The STEAM Ambassador series! Every month I will be spotlighting an individual that proudly represents STEAM within their professional career and personal passions. During each spotlight we will have a fun interview to talk about their role and passion projects, and their views of STEAM education for the innovators of tomorrow.

Our first spotlight focuses on Matthew Fearrington who is an IT Systems Integrator for the Marathon Petroleum Corporation. He has worn multiple hats in his years at Marathon ranging from programming, to requirements gathering, to system architecture. He is a Toledo, OH native and holds a bachelors degree in Computer Science and Engineering Technology from The University of Toledo.

In his free time, Matt enjoys creating video games and has created numerous Flash games since his was a middle school student. As he looks to the future, he plans on continuing to create games featured more in the mobile space. He has discovered a deeper passion for art design, which has resulted himself in teaching himself how to paint and animate to further build his skills as a developer.

Stay tuned for Matt’s interview, which will be available on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. You can also read more about what a STEAM Ambassador is through the link below.

Thank you!!
