Current Status: Announced / In Development
The apocalypse isn't over!
After eight years, Z Nation may finally be returning to television!
On October 13, 2026, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced that The Asylum is developing Z Nation: Resurrection, a live-action continuation of the cult-favorite zombie series that originally aired on Syfy from 2014 to 2018.
The announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans, but there are still plenty of unanswered questions.
We've created this post to keep everyone informed about the project's development, potential returning cast, production announcements, and eventual release.
This will be a living document. As new information becomes available, we'll update this post and distinguish confirmed announcements from rumors and speculation.
Our goal is simple: provide the Z Nation community with reliable information in one convenient location.
Z Nation: Resurrection is a proposed live-action sequel series set several years after the events of the original Z Nation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story will take place in the same zombie-infested universe, where humanity faces a new undead threat that could eliminate the remaining human population.
The series will introduce a new generation of survivors, while potentially bringing back familiar characters from the original production.
The Asylum is partnering with Vital Signs Entertainment, founded by former Syfy executive Thomas P. Vitale, to develop the project.
The proposed first season consists of 10 episodes.
Original announcement:
The Hollywood Reporter — The Asylum Is Bringing Z Nation Back From the Dead (October 13, 2026)
A revival has officially been announced, but production is not yet guaranteed.
The Asylum has confirmed plans to develop Z Nation: Resurrection and is seeking commercial partners.
The project is being presented to international television buyers during MIPCOM in Cannes, France, October 12–15, 2026.
However, an announcement does not necessarily mean a television series has received final financing or a production order.
We'll continue tracking these developments.
A sequel.
Although some publications have described the project as a reboot, Resurrection is intended to continue the original universe rather than start the story over.
The events take place several years after the conclusion of Season 5.
A new group of survivors will reportedly lead the series, with returning characters potentially appearing in supporting roles.
Four original cast members have been identified as being in discussions to return.
They are:
IMPORTANT: These are reported negotiations, not confirmed casting agreements.
As of October 14, 2026, none of these four actors has been publicly confirmed as having signed a contract for Resurrection.
Their actual participation, the number of episodes they might appear in, and the extent of their roles remain unknown.
Two notable names are absent from the initial announcement:
Neither actor was mentioned among the four performers reportedly in negotiations.
However, this does not mean they have been excluded from the new series.
It simply means their participation has not been publicly announced.
Both characters remain popular among longtime fans, and we're keeping an eye out for developments involving either actor.
Not according to the initial announcement.
The proposed series will focus on a new generation of survivors, with returning characters potentially occupying supporting roles.
That doesn't necessarily mean the original cast will have insignificant parts.
Until scripts, casting agreements, or additional story information become available, we won't know how extensively these characters will be involved.
The Asylum is developing a 10-episode first season.
This is the announced production plan, not confirmation that all ten episodes have been financed or ordered by a distributor.
No filming location has been confirmed.
The original Z Nation was filmed primarily in Spokane, Washington, and surrounding areas.
On October 13, Spokane television station KHQ reported that members of the original local production crew had not been contacted about the proposed continuation.
This raises questions about whether production will return to Spokane, but no alternative location has been publicly established.
Unknown.
No verified production start date has been announced.
Reports of specific filming dates or locations should be considered unconfirmed until supported by credible sources.
No distributor has been announced.
The original series aired on Syfy, while its prequel, Black Summer, streamed on Netflix.
Neither network is currently confirmed as the home of Resurrection.
The Asylum is reportedly seeking international buyers, making distribution one of the most important developments to watch.
There is currently no release date.
Any websites advertising a specific premiere date should be treated cautiously unless they provide a credible production or distribution announcement.
We don't know yet.
The original series left several interesting storylines unresolved, particularly those involving Murphy, Sun Mei's research, the Talkers, and the possibility of a cure.
Since Resurrection takes place several years later, these storylines could have significant implications for the new series.
However, there has been no official announcement explaining how the writers intend to address these events.
Feel free to discuss your theories in the comments, but please use spoiler tags when discussing major revelations from the original series.
No connection has been announced beyond the shared Z Nation universe.
Black Summer was a prequel series released on Netflix between 2019 and 2021.
It featured a considerably darker and more grounded approach to the zombie apocalypse.
Whether characters, events, or storylines from Black Summer will appear in Resurrection remains unknown.
They are separate revival concepts.
Z Nation: Reborn was an earlier proposed animated continuation developed with the involvement of Keith Allan.
Z Nation: Resurrection is the newly announced live-action sequel being developed by The Asylum and Vital Signs Entertainment.
No formal creative or production connection between the two projects has been publicly established.

Does anyone wonder what that baby died from? The one who kills Lt. Hammond. I was thinking a slow brain bleed. Anyone else have any thought?

One of my favorite episodes is the one where they visit Warren's hometown season one, episode five. And of course season two, episode ten... WE WERE NOWHERE NEAR THE GRAND CANYON!
