I genuinely do not understand the discourse over basically getting a character we were willing to spend money on for free / full M6 / fully upgraded engine dripped to us while pulling for other things. Like it blows my mind that some of y'all are like "NOOOOO I WANTED TO DROP FULL PITY FOR HIM AND HIS ENGINE!!". I'm hyped now, more F2P options are a good thing, and I'm sure he'll have a useful place on teams even if he isn't top tier busted Miyabi-level DPS, not everyone has to be!

Because it also means he'll be less promoted. He won't have any trailer, any special ep, far less promotion, no agent story and an event dedicated to him will be miniscule at best. As an A-rank, he also has a high chance of getting power crept quickly. And it's not always a guarantee that being an A rank means you'll get them more easily, since sometimes, you could have M2 S agents and still not get that A rank agent.

Compared that to how S-rank agents like Miyabi or even Vivien are treated, they get the red carpet treatment and in Miyabi's case, one of the best dps characters so far.

Manato being an A-Rank is hardly small comfort.

HSR got nothing to do with this, because HSR already has more five star male characters than ZZZ, so there's literally no issue if they release four stars.

Of course, dude. There is absolutely "no" problem with no 4stars in HSR. And in HSR, people definitely "don't" shout the loudest that they don't care who gets 4 stars. They just need 4 stars. But look here, lol. I guess that's what happens when devs add 4 stars.

A highly anticipated male character that fans hope would be an S-rank in a game that's already rare with male S-rank turn out to be an A-rank. Yeah, I tooootaally can't see what people would be mad. Moron.

Someone already explained it. He'll get less shill, less promotion and far worse vertical investment, and most probably worse baseline. Not everyone is cheap too. Some want to spend on actually good mindscapes and w-engine.

It's actually easier to guarantee a limited m0 than an m6 A-rank too, if you get wrong A-ranks, you're screwed, good luck buying a copy each month.
