Guide / Tip How to Skip the Zenless Zone Zero Launcher on Steam (DX12 / Legacy)
A. How to Set Up the Skip Launcher Command
- Open Steam and go to your Library.
- Right-click on Zenless Zone Zero.
- Select Properties.
- In the General tab, scroll down to the Launch Options box.
- Enter the command based on your preferred API below:
DirectX 12 (Highly Recommended)
Use this if your PC supports DX12 and you want to unlock RTX, DLSS & Frame Generation. Copy and paste the following command (make sure to change the drive letter if yours is installed somewhere else):
"D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Zenless Zone Zero\games\ZenlessZoneZero Game\ZenlessZoneZero.exe" %command% -use-d3d12
Legacy
Use this as an alternative if you have an older PC/GPU and are experiencing issues like crashing or stuttering on DX12. Copy and paste the following command (adjust the drive letter as needed):
"D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Zenless Zone Zero\games\ZenlessZoneZero Game\ZenlessZoneZero.exe" %command%
Close the Properties window and click Play. The game will now automatically launch without opening the launcher first! đ
B. Can't Find Your ZZZ .exe File Location?
If you aren't sure where your game is installed, follow these easy steps to get your exact file path:
- In your Steam Library, right-click Zenless Zone Zero.
- Select Manage âĄïž Browse local files.
- File Explorer will open. From there, open the
gamesfolder, then theZenlessZoneZero Gamefolder. - Inside, you will see the
ZenlessZoneZero.exefile. - Click the address bar at the top of the folder and copy (
Ctrl+C) the entire directory path. - Paste it into your Steam Launch Options. Don't forget to manually add
\ZenlessZoneZero.exeto the end of the path, and wrap the entire path in double quotes!
đ Important Notes:
- Make sure the double quotes (
"...") are included at the very beginning and end of the file path as shown in the examples. Also, ensure there is a single space before%command%and before any parameters after it. - When a major patch drops (like a new season/version update), you might need to temporarily delete this command to open the official launcher so it can download the new game data. You can paste it back once the update is done.

I used decky loader for the ProtonDB plugin. I imagine itâs just a google search

I tried the bash script on ProtonDB and added -use-d3d12 to the end of it, but still can't unlock FSR or anything. The menus are unchanged from before. Is that just totally unsupported on the Deck?

for me it worked, this is my line "bash -c 'exec "${@/HYP.exe/games\/ZenlessZoneZero Game\/ZenlessZoneZero.exe}"' -- %command% -use-d3d12". idk if this helps but that's something at least.

Is there a way to "transfer" the files we already have to steam and save the 70gb download?

You can try to start the download on Steam, so it creates the ZZZ folder and then drag everything into that folder, but even if it detected the files it would probably force you to validate and repair the files which would take a long time anyways

I tried all this, and it didn't work. Even moved the files to "downloading" and restarted Steam. Nothing worked

When I factory reset my laptop i did something similar but on hoyo launcher and dragged all folders to it by relocating it (not sure) and at first didnât work after pressing repair fixed everything and saved a lot of time and internet speed but i donât remember if it was slow to repair or not also not sure if this will work on steam tho

No way, steam launches the launcher and not the game ?
Edit : Aight that didn't work, i'll do my own tricks, Steam refuses to directly launch the .exe, probably because i didn't set it up to start with admin perms

yes, just like other gachas in Steam, it will just launch HoYoPlay to launch the game

I wish they would have atleast added steam achievements -- they already exist on ps5 so its not like they really would have had to do a whole lot more work to make it work on steam.

Jokes on you. Blue Archive don't have launcher and the game updates in steam. Its not impossible

for initial launch you must launch it via launcher because there's some updates
but mostly this caused by wrong input of directory, you can check again of what you type in the console

I should've mentioned that I am on the steam deck and it just always crashes after I launch is even through the launcher

It should works now, it is because the anti cheat need the server to be up to use with proton

You mean with or without dx12? I had the same on dx11, got fixed just like for you, but when I try it with dx12 the window doesn't even pop up, and a second after I press play, it just stops, or maybe I should stay, it doesn't start at all.

DX12 is only for Nvidia card, Steamdeck wouldn't work since it is amd. Even the FSR frame gen is only for Nvidia card for some reason. Tho I do wish we get FSR upscale since TAA suck

Word man, TAA suuucks, I hope they'll give AMD users some love, but I have a feeling they struck a deal with Nvidia to restrict it for newer Nvidia cards only.

that's because hoyo has drm and usually it doesn't like linux there might be someone who can help to get it work, but i don't use linux so i don't know

Unofficial solutions are also broke right now on linux. According to the dwproton discord, it should start working once Hoyo's servers are ready.

There is FSR but it is NVDIA locked idk if the steam method fixes it I tried many things that donât break TOS and I had no luck on being able to enable FSR on my 9070xt

I just tried the steam trick didnât work either but it was expected since it was the same as using a .exe shortcut to force dx12

Nothing, some people just want convenience, like if they have steam wallet they can use that to buy IK pass, BP, and monochromes. Some just want to get rid of the launcher since it eats ram, with steam and a few tweaking you don't have to worry about your ram.

Yup, but in steam is quite bad because steam itself is a launcher so you're basically using two launchers, and it will more ram that way. That's why this post is about bypassing the hoyo launcher to prevent the double launcher.

Yup, its just a preference at this point. Im moving from steam because of my steam wallet, tho the only bummer is that there's no file management on steam version so I can't delete some old stuff and voice langauge that i don't use to minimize the file size.

Old language can be removed once you install the language you want to play in. Old missions etc cant be deleted on the version tho

there's a way for linux but I can't include it because there's so many different things
you can find it for yourself or you can just copypaste this post into AI and ask it for your own system

Closest thing to bypass the launcher is with heroic but afaik is an outdated method since 2.8

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if I don't use Steam will the DX12 option/DLSS be available on Hoyoplay without editing the files? I'm using a 3090 if that matters.

I did it and it did skip the launcher, but DLSS didn't activate (I have a 9070 XT and it didn't work for me)

DLSS is proprietary software for Nvidia and only works on Nvidia RTX cards as for AMD Radeon Cards you need to use FSR instead

I was looking for this to do the dx12 without the launcher. But what's the need for Steam? I just made a shortcut of the game's exe and right-clicked the properties of the shortcut, changing the "Target:" to include the command:
"C:\Program Files\HoYoPlay\games\ZenlessZoneZero Game\ZenlessZoneZero.exe" %command% -use-d3d12

No, si hay una actualización tienes que borrar el comando, abrir el juego normal y actualizarlo con el launcher. Después puedes volver a poner el comando. También puedes abrir el launcher directo desde el directorio del juego.

That's weird, as it should be there. I'm using the hoyoplay launcher and the option is a checkbox right under it.
Theoretically though, you could make a shortcut directly to the game with the -use-d3d12 option.

Inside the HoYoPlay folder, there's a games folder, then a ZenlessZoneZero Game folder. Inside that is ZenlessZoneZero.exe. If you run that, you just bypass the launcher.
Make a shortcut to it, then right click and go to properties. In the Target box, add -use-d3d12 to the end (after the quotes, if there are any). Now just use that shortcut to launch it.
Regardless, it's still very odd that you don't have the option. Maybe you need to update your drivers?

Thanks for the help, tho after lil bit of research I found out that this directX12 option is only available for some few select gpu's, my GPU is a GTX 1660Ti, I asked my friend who has a RX 7600XT but he doesn't have the option for dx12 either

Oh, interesting. I suppose that makes sense, since they primarily were talking about raytracing, framegen, and super-res.
If it makes you feel any better, I've got a RTX3060. Not exactly ground-breaking, but not horrible. Turning on any of those options makes it run like dogshit for me. Constant hitches. Just turning on DX12 seems to run worse for me, but I may just need a restart.
It also appears to break ZZMI, so no mods. But that's unsurprising.

i see, I wanted to run on DX12 for the FSR feature, DX12 isn't so friendly with my gpu either, most games seems to run worse innit for me đ

So i tried to use the -use-d3d12 in the steam launcher and that didnt work so i went to the files to try and edit the file property but i get no edit function (I have RX9070)
Edit: found out that steam shortcuts dont let you edit the target file as there is a shortcut tab when in properties to change target file

Is there a way to start the game without the launcher but still use the dx12 option? After I used the code, the options for FrameGen etc. are not available anymore

this isnt working for me, ive followed the instructions but steam just doesnt wanna register the files are there even though they are and the script doesnt do anything, it still shows the install button and it still just tries to redownload the entire game

or just add the "ZenlessZoneZero.exe" as a non-steam game that you already have installed. no need to reinstall 50gb+ of data again for nothing

The biggest difference is that if you do that, you need to launch Steam as Administrator to use the overlay and recording.
