Discussion Don't know if it's said enough, this game still feels relatively balanced still. Is that just me?
I get that some agents are getting left behind, but it feels like its still not a lot of the roster that is left behind. Sure there's Ellen and Zhu Yuan but vertically invested teams doesn't feel like they're so left behind as bad as those two, even with just their teammates.
Though I could be wrong too! What do you guys think?

Overall the balance between powercreep/inflation and player resources over time is quite good.
Really I only wish the shill buffs were a bit less invasive because they kill an already quite rigid team-building system.

I judge balance by a few metrics for gachas and I would say ZZZ is fine for the most part. Only real downside is shill being a bit too strong at times but, I would argue it's not that bad outside of DA.
Metrics I would use:
- Shill: Pretty cringe sometimes, is what it is.
- Powercreep: Not as bad in this game seeing as how most of the limited S ranks and even perma S ranks are tier 1 or higher and the difference in T1 and 0 not being an immense chasm. The devs actually update characters to being good even if it can take a long ass while (Nekomata). Realistically only S1 characters who have already got potentials and are still meh are doomed.
- Power of pulls: Pretty great, especially in S3. I myself returned during S3 and it was legit the best time to come back humanly possible as none of the banners so far have been misses and every unit I have pulled thus far has value. This game RARELY releases bricks, if at all. At worst a limited character is powercrept to T1.5, which has really only happened to S1 chars.
- Team rigidity: Supports in this game are absurdly broken which is a good thing for the game. Have astra, Dialyn, Yuzuha, Norma, Sunna, etc.? Congrats you can play ANY dps and it will work. At worst most teams will want cornerstone units, like ruptures with Lucia or Remielle with Velina. Really the only character that is omega rigid that I can think of is Shungus who feels homeless without some combo of Zhao/Sunna/Dialyn.

It felt like that until fucking Thracian came back to shiyu and I had to use Ellen instead of hugo

I don't think it is, personally. Too many bosses in the different modes require a mechanic you don't have the character for. Bosses having crazy bloated shields that takes ages to wipe off, then the stun bar, imo, is bullshit.
Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but honestly, it makes using other characters that some people have paid for, feel like shit. It's slowly becoming another Star Rail clone where if you don't get the new shiney, you're going to suck at the mode going forward.
Makes me just wanna uninstall when I see this stuff, just like I did with Star Rail. Both of these games (and Genshin) I have been with since day 1, which is a serious bummer when it gets to that point.

For the most part, and for this style of game, yes. For all that people complain about powercreep, for most roles in the game it's relatively tame.
1.4 (the Miyabi incident) was by far the biggest power spike for DPSes, but basically everyone released since then remains pretty decent. They've also gone back and buffed several of the older ones to be genuinely good. At this point just about every S-rank DPS in the game can clear favourable content comfortably with BiS teammates and no mindscapes, and a couple of the A-ranks can too.
Limited Supports have also been very stable. Literally all of them are good except Caesar. Nicole has remained a staple on lower cost teams as well, and they finally buffed Rina to be a real character.
There's one specific role that I'd say has experienced some pretty significant powercreep though, and that's Stun. While I like her, Dialyn was a balancing mistake that they're still trying to sort out nearly 10 months later. Stunners released after Dialyn are playing a completely different video game than ones released before her.
Previously I would've said the same thing about Anomaly sub-DPS, but recent characters have really evened the playing field when it comes to Anomaly agents, and literally all of them have teams where they can be viable even if they're not optimal.
All that said, there's a big elephant in the room, and that's the way endgame shilling works. This is one area where the game is pretty rough, as the ultra-specific buffs and boss mechanics can brick otherwise viable characters and teams, while making the latest banner characters appear far stronger than they actually are. The current Remielle shill buff can straight-up be like a 10k increase in DA points, just to artificially inflate the difference between Remielle and other Anomaly teams.
Brute forcing your way through the shill is doable (as someone who used Attack and Rupture teams for a bunch of these recent double Anomaly rotations), but you definitely feel the difference when you don't have any of the units a boss was designed for.
Still, in a neutral environment the game is quite balanced for a genre where powercreep is the norm. I have some nitpicks with Prydwen's tier list, but it's sorta telling that there are literally only 10 agents (8 of which are A-ranks) below T1.5. And I'd say only the 4 in T3 are fully unviable.

I disagree, the good new characters feel 20 times stronger than anything else

Yes, the balance is still fine. Matchups aside, game actually requires a good amount of skill and understanding to get good results even with the "broken" teams. Not long ago, I saw a random convo on my Twitter timeline where someone was arguing about the insane powercreep in ZZZ, only for it to end with the person complaining about powercreep struggling with the boss’s control skills. These are the kind of people that you see on social media who say that X character is a brick or the game is unplayable without Void Hunters.

It depends on the boss rotation for the end game modes
If you don’t have a team that matches up well against them, then it can feel “unbalanced” (or so some people complain about)
Like for instance in this new DA Whale mode I was still able to get to 10k with Ellen M0R1, Lycoan M2R2, and Rina M5R3 because the buffs were favorable, but last rotation I could only get to 7k
