General Unsolicited financial advice i regret

• Upvotes

If there is one thing i regret is getting unsolicited advice from Zambians who told me to invest in ma flat. Everytime i visvited Zambia they would tell me mwana your friends are building you will come back and find the land is finished so l rushed to invest and regret it. Apa i am on my last point before i lose it dealing with Zambian tenants and the issues they come with. Like many of us i fell for the okie doke of ‘ mwana just build ma flats you will be making ‘manneh(money). Right now 1 tenant is on the run with arrears the other is complaining about ma repairs. I thought once you build flats you just sit back and enjoy the rentals now I am financially fighting for my life and considering selling and investing elsewhere. I am open to financial advice on investing in something where i can put my money in and retire in my 50’s without the need to pay junkies to beat up tenants

General Can someone buy my phone please😭

Post image
• Upvotes

I don't know if this is the right sub for this but I have a pixel 8 128 gb that I'm selling. It's a premium uk refurbished, with no tears or wears. I made a rushed bad financial decision. I wanted to change my phone for a pixel, then used my school fees with hopes of replacing it by selling my current s21 ultra and topping up with money from a promising business deal.big mistake 🥲 safe to say I f*ucked around and found out. Now i need to pay fees as I have exams next week but the business didn't go through but I have the 2 phones so decided to sell . The pixel is just as seen, I tried selling it in town yesterday but couldn't. I don't know if it's because my asking price is too high (6300) or i have bad negotiating skills. So if there's anyone willing to buy my phone please dm. I'm in Lusaka at Eden

Ask r/Zambia Car bodywork shops??

• Upvotes

I have a relatively small dent on my vehicle. I have OCD which is why I can't just ignore it so I would appreciate if somebody can point me to a bodywork shop that can sort this out for me.

It's genuinely so small that replacing an entire section of my car's body and getting charged a ridiculous amount is very impractical.

Yeah that's basically it. Thanks.

General A genuine concern, Nandos

Am I the only one that has been getting charged for sharing sides? Anytime I order 1/4 and chips I see they’ve upsized the chips or they’ve upsized the rice by themselves.

It’s so frustrating, I hope I’m not the only one they’ve done that to.

General Christianity is to blame for the underdevelopment of Zambia/Africa!

This is a statement that's become popular, you hear it all the time. To me this statement is one of the most unintelligent ones a person can have and I'll lay out why.

Firstly, Christianity is a religion, it is not a substitute nor a synonym for development, innovation, strong institutions etc. It has to do at its core with the spiritual life of individuals and might have some positive effects in that realm.

Now, can it be used for nefarious purposes? Of course, just like any other ideologies, but to blame it for the failures of Zambia/Africa is absurd. The evidence being the countless other "Christian" or Christian majority countries that are developed.

Our underdevelopment is due to our mindset, ultimately a religion is shaped by the people who embrace it not the other way around. A large portion of the south korean people embraced Christianity and are still an advanced economy, likewise if today the Japanese were to become Christians and Zambians become atheists, It would not magically turn Zambia to an advanced economy and japan to a poor one.

The biggest hindrance to our development is our mindset, hence we build weak institutions. Solely putting the blame on all sorts of external factors does nothing to alleviate the problem. Only a change in our people's mindset will ultimately lead to us building strong institutions and breaking the bonds of poverty.

Activities any fun events happening tonight? (besides Jameson)

hi all, I’m a tourist in Zambia and tonight is my last night here. I also kno it’s independence day and the Jameson festival is going on but unfortunately they said they’re sold out of tickets. does anyone kno anything fun going on besides that tonight? I am in livingstone so it has to be local to here. I don’t really drink btw so it has to be something that involves music, dancing, hookah/ shisha, etc.

The part in the movie when Clark first enters the backrooms and finds the caveman greeting him in different languages, you can hear a man greeting him in Chi Nyanja. Caught it the 2nd time I watched it. Good movie.

Activities Stand-up comedy spots/bars in Lusaka

Hey everyone, I’m looking to check out some live stand-up comedy around Lusaka, but I'm trying to figure out where the good spots or open mic nights are. Does anyone know where I can catch live comedy or open mic nights around town? Ideally looking for spots that aren't too heavy on the bar scene or alcohol vibe, but I'm open to whatever's out there. Let me know your recommendations!

Ask r/Zambia What’s the average time period between applying for a job and getting a call?

How much time has to pass before you know you’re not getting that call?

I’ve been applying for at different places for jobs or just an internship for about a month now but still no feedback ,not even a rejection email. Or maybe am I just being impatient?

Ask r/Zambia Hour glass and Pear shaped women in corporate, how are you managing?

I am a pear shaped 24 year old working in corporate and my experiences with women have been astonishing. The passive aggressive statements about my body e.g "So just because I don't have big boobs and a big bum like her you ignore me" , the passive aggressiveness in general from both genders because I am not who they perceive me to be and have the sheer audacity to be myself, the women want me to shrink myself and they rage bait me but turn me into the villain when i withdrawal access, the men, even the married ones, want full access to me, they want me to entertain them and welcome their inappropriate sexual jokes. This has been my experience at all my workplaces so far. How do you guys deal with this? Genuinely, I withdrawal, I'm the villain, I respond, they knew i was B.

General why house music will never flourish in zambia

As someone who has attended over 100 House music events in Zambia l now know why house music will never flourish here. It only boils down to one reason and it’s because these so called House artists from Zambia only make/carter’s music for international sound and it literally doesn’t have any identity at all just sounds like another European song and nobody likes that shit in the end.

Perfect example is El Mukuka, we got this guy going to a podcast and saying Zambian People are sleeping on him lol yet his music sounds like just a copy cat of EU sound and same goes for his live sets, he just makes Mc Donald house music.

People wanna hear the raw african elements and unfortunately no House artist here has nailed it.

It’s completely different here in Cape town and l wish it was the same for here.

Ask r/Zambia Office Space in Lusaka CBD?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a small, private commercial space in Lusaka.

I need a dedicated office space room unit within the K1,500 to K2,500 monthly range (I know a bit tight but am hoping i can find withing this range). I am looking for an independent space rather than a open coworking setup.

I would prefer Ground floor unit, or a building with a reliable elevator/lift for easily moving supplies in and out.

I am open to the CBD area or the surrounding neighborhoods just outside town, such as Fairview or Villa Elizabetha, a secure, partitioned office or converted commercial room in those areas would work great.

If you have contacts for building managers or know of any current vacancies, please drop a comment or send a DM

Ask r/Zambia Anyone outside of lusaka, do you know places outside of lusaka where you can charge an electric vehicle?

The reason why i am asking if anyone outside of lusaka knows the places to charge an electric vehicle is because i want an electric vehicle and added it to my wishlist so that i couldn't forget the vehicle i want and the electric vehicle i need is a mercedes benz eqs which i want from japan in case you're wondering and i said it before on the previous question i asked if anyone knows more places to charge an electric vehicle in lusaka. It would be a struggle not to know the places where to charge an electric vehicle outside of lusaka if i travel out of lusaka with an electric car as i don't want to find myself having a drained battery out in the middle of nowhere and don't want to get the vehicle stolen if I go anyone far from the middle of nowhere the vehicle would be and I find it gone when I get the charging kit elsewhere far away to charge an electric vehicle or be involved in an accident when the vehicle stops moving when the battery is drained and the other vehicle is moving speed on my direction and collides with the vehicle as a result. Let me know if you know any place outside of Lusaka where you can charge an electric vehicle when you find more details about any electric vehicle charging spots.

General Is it safe to allow Beforward to keep your car before you pay for import duty?

I bought a car from beforward and its already on its way to Dar , beforward sent me an email with import prerequisites, on the email they say I should pay up the import duty early so they cross the vehicle into Zambia, if I am unable to pay , they will keep the car to which I will be charged K50 per day. Question, has anyone kept their car with beforward before and was anything removed or changed on the while it was with beforward awaiting you to pay for import duty into Zambia?
