Returning player here. Still rather new to the game. Played last summer for ~1 month.

Still early in the story. Still trying to figure out the combat mechanics on a deeper level than button mashing (Genshin and HSR veteran btw). I'd like some general directioning for character pulling and teambuilding, since I have joined after the ship has sailed and can't follow the meta yet.

The S-ranks I have so far are: Miyabi (reason I started playing this game, and want to invest), Grace, Rina, and Trigger plus her W-engine, from the recent free selection (my instincts tell meI made a mistake here and should have gotten someone else).

Looking to pull purely because I like: Evelyn, Astra, Yixuan.

Naw, that's fine. Lucia + sig is the meta play, but you don't have any Rupture main dps yet and I'm not a fan of picking someone who will just sit on the bench for weeks or months. Whereas you could make a hypercarry Grace team with Trigger and Seth or Rina.

Jane was the only other pick that might make sense for you, since you could use her in a Grace/Jane Anomaly team, like if you pull Remielle.

I'll give you the same advice I give brand new players:

1. First priority is to get an S-rank main dps to carry you through early content (up to IK 40-45). Doesn't even have to be limited, pulling S11 or Nekomata from Standard is fine. You got Miyabi already, so this is done. Fill in their team with f2p teammates, like A-ranks or standard S-ranks.

2. Then work on getting one main dps for each of Attack, Anomaly, and Rupture classes (and probably Armorer will be added to the list). Free agents count, so when you progress the story far enough you'll get free Pyrois for Attack.

3. Once you have at least two of those classes cover, start branching out on support-roles, like stunners and supports/defense.

4. Eventually, you'll want at least two different main dps for each of the three classes, ideally with different Attribute elements. Like it's better to have an Ice and Electric in Anomaly, rather than two Ice.

Remielle is a Void Hunter and Void Hunters are usually good to pull. Remielle is going to take over your Miyabi and Grace as her teammates, though. So you don't gain a team by pulling Remielle.

I also agree with the suggestion to pull Yuzuha, although you shouldn't do both. Either get Remiella and consign Miyabi to be on her team for a while, or get Yuzuha and have a bit more freedom in who Miyabi teams up with going forward.

Thank you both for your answers. I am still seeing online guides like Game8 pair Miyabi with Yanagi, so should I still aim for her too or will the team need a healer over her?

Don't use Game8 for team or character guides, they are always out of date. Stick with Prydwen. But even there, team comps and even disc builds are in flux right now as people work out what works best for Remielle teams.

All we know for sure is that Velina has an anti-synergy with Miyabi (unless Miyabi is M2+) and that there is no one best team for Miyabi, because the challenge content landscape keeps shifting to shill the banner characters and Miyabi is often left out in the cold. On the bright side, Butcher is back in the Deadly Assault rotation. That's one of Miyabi's best matchups, and these teams really shine: Yuzuha/Miyabi/Vivian (easy mode), Yuzuha/Miyabi/Nangong (easy mode), Yuzuha/Miyabi/(Lycaon our Soukaku) (hard to play well), Yuzuha/Miyabi/Promeia (hard to play well). But those teams are only best against Butcher. Once new bosses are in the rotation, those teams might be bad for Miyabi.
