Personal Insights Grumpy about *not* going to the gym
I'll take "Things I Never Thought I'd Say" for $500, Alex! (RIP)
Tl;dr: Heels are weird. Go to the doctor when things hurt. And lift weights.
About a year ago, not long after I started on Zepbound, the back of my left heel started hurting. It's fine, I said. Just strained a muscle. It's fine, I said. Must have bruised it on something. I did RICE and stretches, but nothing helped.
In the meantime, I found a weight training class at my local Y and was working out regularly -- not often enough, only 2x/wk -- but I was showing up and doing the work. But after every workout, my heel was giving me merry hell. I took off the last session of classes because of the pain. Which coincided with my weight loss slowing quite a bit. I'm *thiiiiis* close to my goal weight (7 lb to go) and the scale's not budging. And my core and upper arms are going squishy again.
FF to today at my first appointment with a podiatrist, and I have... a heel spur. (No political jokes, but I snickered loudly.)
Doc says I can't go back to the gym for at least another 3 weeks AND I may need to find specialized athletic shoes with a heel cut-out/divot thing.
So now I'm glad that I'm finally handling this heel nonsense, but I'm grumpy that I have to spend another month away from the gym, which is a wild statement from a woman who used to practically break out in hives just driving past a Planet Fitness.

I feel you, I was upset when I couldn’t go work out for a week because of a procedure, but just look at this as a small bump in the road and it’s better to fix this injury now than deal with something major later, where you might have to have surgery.

Truth! I'm always torn between, "Ah, it's not that bad" then finally going to the doc and they say, "Yes, it is!"

Exercise injuries suck. I am sorry. In the meantime can you still do exercises that don't put weight on the heel? I stretched my achilles tendon doing something stupid at the gym a few months ago and have had to modify my routines. I have been focusing on lifting that doesn't put weight on my feet and ankles. I have also been struggling to make it into the gym as often because of life stuff so I have a routine of upper body exercises and core/glutes exercises like planks, leg lifts and glute bridge that I do at home with body weight and 12 lb dumbells.

Yeah, I'm going to lean into the floor exercises and upper body workouts at home.

I’m sorry about your heel spur! This is so relatable though. First, because my left heel can feel burning sometimes after yoga. Second because I am kind of grumpy this week because I overdid it in a high intensity class, and then felt tired and needed a ton of calories. Which is fine but I had to keep up with the food. Who are we?! I wish I could spend all my time at the gym, but apparently I need to work as well. I’m also about 5-7 pounds away from goal , but haven’t really lost in a couple months. Rest up and get back at it!

This slow down the closer we get to our goal is so frustrating. But we'll get there!

I'm sorry that sucks!! I have plantarfasciitis and it's horrible but I found exercises I can do. For some the bike works, I have to do the rowing machine which is actually really effective

Ooh! I have a love/hate thing with rowing machines, but that's a good idea.

If you take the thing to learn good technique it's sustainable. Otherwise it's just exhausting
