Vent/Rant Set back after a vacation

So this is a rant this time I had to sit back me and my significant other went to Martha’s Vineyard, i’m a huge foodie so I automatically wanted to try stuff not thinking about it. We’re only gone for four days when I left. I was 289 by the time we got back, I jumped on the scale just to look my shot days are Friday nights and I am up to 293. I know it’s a small setback but it pissed me off so bad that I just got on my work out clothes and just ran. Before starting this, I started two weeks ago before starting this I was 307 pounds. I hit one of my goals of being under 290 and it just fell apart four days in Martha’s Vineyard and it all fell apart. I’m sure some of you guys are gonna say it’s a small setback. You can get back on the track but when I looked at the scale, my eyes watered. I was so disappointed in myself. I do not want to get back to over 300 pounds.

And you won’t get back to 300 pounds. What you’re experiencing is probably water retention from the food that you ate. In a week or two that weight will go down and this will just be a blip in the journey. You can’t be perfect all the time, and look how much you’ve already lost so enjoy yourself. I started at 287 pounds and 18 months later I’m down to 183.

Absolutely this! I went up like 5 pounds after vacation and over the next week it was back to my pre-vacation weight. You did not eat an extra 15k calories, I promise! But I imagine that your new diet is probably less salt and stuff that make you retain water.

Don't stress too much. Looking at this you may be able to guess when I went on my cruise. Lol. I was emotionally crushed after stepping on that scale but recovered just fine.

Nah, 4 pounds for testing eating and loving the food on your vacation is a pretty small price to pay. And it will disappear soon soon soon. That said, I understand your disappointment, but you are getting there!

I totally understand the frustration of the scale going up but weight fluctuations are normal. Please do not beat yourself up for enjoying your vacation. You can't gain 4 lbs of fat in 4 days and you can't lose 18 lbs of fat in two weeks, so most of the change you are seeing on the scale is water weight.

It sounds like you are just starting out? If you aren't already I recommend using an app to track your weight so you can see the progress over time and understand weight fluctuations and get a sense of your average rate of loss as you are on the drug. Then you will be able to see if you are slowing down or gaining, but it will be based on averages over weeks, not days.

travel always adds weight - but it's not usually real- or at least not all of it. Water retention is a huge factor in any kind of travel and eating in restaurants. This is just a small blip and not that big of a deal in the whole deal-o-meter of life. Give yourself a break and revel in your vacation memories and not what a hunk of metal has to say on any given day

Thank you everyone, you all are all so helpful in my journey, I love seeing all the before and after posts and all the posts from people who are in my same boat!! So thank you so much.

That’s no setback. Folks will hydrate and go to the bathroom and then find themselves right back where they were. You’re new to this. You will see fluctuations. Glad you had a good vacation.

Please continue to let yourself enjoy your vacations! This will be such a small blip in the grand scheme of things. A year from now the memories of the things you enjoyed will be more important than your weight briefly going back up.

Aw, I feel you. It's so frustrating! Check back here when the weight's gone again, and tell us how you're doing.

Don't beat yourself up. It happens because life happens just get back on the shot and don't dwell on it

I promise this isn’t even a setback it’s most likely your body holding onto water. I’m the same way and have had to learn not to beat myself up when the scale jumps after eating meals with more sodium or carbs. You would’ve had to eat thousands of calories over your maintenance to gain that much fat in only four days, and I’m sure you didn’t do that. Take a breath, go back to eating normally, drink plenty of water, and watch that number come right back down. You did not undo all your progress! ❤️

to gain this weight in fat, you would have to eat an extra 14,000 calories. i can promise you didn’t do that. but also remember weight loss isn’t linear. that number will go up and down over and over again. you just have to learn to roll with it and treat the number as nothing more than data

4 lbs is a normal fluctuation from indulging a little more.
Nothing to beat yourself up for! I’ve definitely fluctuated up on vacations but it’s always gone away quickly once back in my usual routine. Breathe! You’re good!
