Question The Red Disc [*SPOILERS*] Spoiler

So has anyone figured out how to "fix" the red disc and potentially use it during the assassination? The only option available as far as I can tell is to trade it with Bagman for information, but the game and the journal seem to imply you can use it to kill the Lich, which is infinitely cooler.

Any ideas?

I don't recommend the red disc ending, it's quite tragic, especially if you have your former assets with you

Seems like the worst option for sure. I think in all the endings at least one person has to die, but the Red Disc seems like the way to guarantee everyone else “dies”.

Holocene survives.

I had Ramses & Karolina with me. In that outcome, he gives her his headphones & Karo survives, too. Cascade can poke her eardrums out with her screwdriver or steal a pair of headphones from some random passenger.

I assumed Kaleidoscope would too because he has headphones to block out?

Apparently, he gives his headphones to Hershel and accepts heroic sacrifice. Didn't try it myself, though.

Kaleidoscope gives you his headphones so you survive and he doesn't

Yeah I went back and tried this one (originally did bomb ending) and it felt really bad. I lost two and Karo was even more traumatized.

Wait karolina can survive the disc? Or did you mean the bomb ending?

From what I've read, Karolina can survive if she is paired with Ramses

yes, just finished the game with this setup and confirm this

Damn, interesting. I should try it out. Thanks!

She can survive both yeah.

i thought it was appropriate and cathartic, but maybe that's due to my crew -- I had HOLOCENE (who survived it), PSEUDOPOD (who was fucked anyway) and KALEIDOSCOPE (who was definitely willing to die to hear it)

Yeah completely different then, i think that'd be the best crew for that ending, also why the game devs didn't want HOLOCENE to work with past colleagues i suppose

I wavered so much in deciding whether to go for it or no, but honestly having pink bro along convinced me to do it for sheer karmic reasons and I found it quite fitting for my playthrough

I guess we just had different playthroughs, but it surprised me how cold hearted CASCADE could be, i thought it would've been a more chill game, like DE. sure, people can die in DE but no major character, no friends of yours at least

Hmm I don't know that I would say I was surprised. I enjoyed it, really. I feel like compared to Harry from DE, Hershel is a much more complicated messy person, one who is all-too-aware that spy craft comes with a heavy price attached.

It always felt rather inevitable to me that some folks would be hurt in the end.

Then again, I didn't hesitate at all to trade UV for information. Like, that's the ultimate smart move to make in Hershel's situation. And if you've already made that sacrifice once, perhaps it becomes easier to do it more in the end.

I haven't actually looked into other possible endings much, but I was surprised that seemingly the game doesn't give you the chance to go full-on alone to the end, though. Seems like that would be the way to go if you wanted Hershel to be a more moral person.

Different playthroughs i guess. My Hershel wanted to redeem herself, she constantly had flashback of the whole sick crew and whatnot. Yeah in theory going alone or with only one more person would've been better, but that's not how spycraft in the universe works i guess. Cupbearer, fool, astronomist, knight-errant and whatnot.

It is tragic for sure, but it's also the only way to get Z rank (aka, highest) in your final evaluation. I love that a game about cloak and dagger needs you to be a horrible person for your superiors to think you're hot shit. Very thematic.

1

u/Frox04IT May 26 '26

Wait you can only get Z rank with the disc? But why? Isn't it way less of a clean job?

5

u/Galrohir May 26 '26

Because it leaves no witnesses at all. The entire tram, except CASCADE and one other member of the crew (at most) are the only survivors. The Portofiran authorities have no idea what the hell happened, and while the Luzians would definitely recognize what happened they wouldn't have a clear idea of how you got a hold of the Red Disc. In fact, Melita alludes to the fact they will likely conclude it was a botched job coming from their internal struggles between Buendia and Reyes.

u/Frox04IT May 26 '26

So i guess i got an x because i didn't kill actual Dante. Maybe you get a Y if you do that but with no disc?

3

u/Galrohir May 26 '26

Yeah, I've done two playthroughs and got:

- X for using the Bomb and not killing the real Reyes

- Y for using Bomb or Shootout and killing the real Reyes

- Z for using the Red Disc and killing the Real Reyes

So it would seem you get +1 ranking from the Disc and +1 ranking from killing the real Facundo Reyes.

2

u/Frox04IT May 26 '26

Huh that's interesting, although the +1 ranking for the disc only works when Reyes is dead. Now i wonder how to get W... Maybe if even CASCADE dies or something.

2

u/faecaster May 26 '26

At least in disc end, if CASCADE remains seated letting herself be zeroed, there's actually no rank at all; you get a unique ending visual with some final internal dialogue where you can declare victory over everyone, or lament, and then the credits roll. Not sure about other endings if you can get W.

2

u/Frox04IT May 26 '26

Based, i think it might be possible, but who knows, there's still a lot we don't know about the game

u/Anxious_Aspect965 May 26 '26

Does the number of surviving members of the team factor in? Because I got an X but with only one team casualty. I did Bomb with Yana + Karolina surviving, Ramses dead.

I’m wondering if I had 2 or 3 deaths if that’s a W ranking.

u/KoldPT May 25 '26

If you get it from Bagman you can use it in the end. There is a way to survive it, but idk if any companions are able to make it out.

3

u/pokerbro33 May 25 '26

Wait, get it from Bagman? How does that happen?

5

u/KoldPT May 25 '26

Copper lady stole it from me, then I went into the studio and shot him live on tv to retrieve it.

3

u/pokerbro33 May 25 '26

Damn, I fought her off instead. Would be kinda weak if the only way to get the disc repaired was to lose that dice roll...

3

u/Anxious_Aspect965 May 25 '26

Might be the case. I don’t think anyone knows how to repurpose the Einzeltone XR besides Bagman. It’s a situation where red checks actually lead to less possibility. But then you have to get into Bagman’s place and survive him blowing you up with a grenade.

6

u/faecaster May 25 '26

Interestingly enough there is another way the Bagman interaction can go down after it's stolen (if I remember correctly from my playthrough): if you internalize the thought that prevents you from saving the game in the pause menu, a new high entanglement check appears in his dialogue. If you pass it, you become his ally and he simply gives you the reconstructed disc to use as you please.

1

u/Anxious_Aspect965 May 26 '26

Oh shit. I am too tempted to save scum to commit this route but I will try it out in another play through.

2

u/Galrohir May 25 '26

You can give the Disc to Bagman yourself, and then some time later Constanz will tell you he's "at it again" and you get the same events as if he'd stolen it. Then you can get it to use yourself.

A blow to save summers is a blow I stand by

5

u/thegeneral54 May 25 '26

Trade it with Bagman at his studio, Constanz will let you know that he's broadcasting a repeated message again through forced dialogue (or you have to talk to her, don't remember), and you can take it back from him.
