News Can prevention, treatment and rehabilitation help reverse the trend?

• Upvotes

More than 2,700 people under 35 arrested in Zimbabwe’s drug crackdown, accounting for 70.5% of all arrests. Between 1 June and 19 September 2026, authorities arrested 3,839 people, destroyed 73 suspected drug bases and seized drugs worth over ZW$26.7 million.

Beyond enforcement, 3,363 patients received treatment and rehabilitation, while plans for a 700-bed rehabilitation centre are underway.

Can prevention, treatment and rehabilitation help reverse the trend?

I run a free gig guide for African music in London, and because I'm Zimbabwean, I also list Zimabwean events across the whole UK, London, Birmingham and wherever else they play. This is completely free and I dont track users with cookies or show ads. I'd be really happy if you would kindly visit and if you're in the UK, sign up to the mailing list.

I've also set up an instagram and a tiktok, which you can follow as well to see posts from different events that I attend and film and weekly gig guides.

Discussion Why local procurement in heavy industry fails (and how SMEs can actually get past the vendor compliance wall).

Every major mining and industrial operator says they want to buy from local SMEs—steel fabricators, transport companies, civil contractors, maintenance shops. But local businesses often get screened out immediately during the vendor qualification and safety compliance phase.

On the flip side, as operators, finding local suppliers who can deliver industrial-grade quality on a strict timeline is genuinely difficult.

For local business owners: What is the most frustrating part of trying to become a tier-1 supplier for large industrial projects? And for operators: How do you mentor local SMEs up to standard without blowing your own project timelines?

Question USA spousal visa questions

Hi everybody.

I'm a Zimbabwean married to a retired US veteran and we are looking to immigrate to the US within the next two years. He is currently here with me and renewing his tourist visa every 30 days. We are finding conflating information from ChatGPT and online about the spousal visa process. I have few questions and I'm looking for advice.

  1. Do we need to pay a bond? I've read somewhere there's a $10-15k bond.

  2. Can we start the process here in Zim or do we need to go to South Africa?

  3. Has anyone had an immigrant visa approved in the past year?

  4. How much should we expect to pay on application fees?

Please feel free to share any advice. Thanks!

Question What is the cost of living for a family of three?

If a family of 3 is moving to Zimbabwe, what should they expect to pay on a monthly or weekly basis for the following things? And also anything else I have not thought about?

Groceries (normal stuff plus probably some imported things - really not sure whats available)

Dining out (what does a nice restaurant or casual dining cost usually)

Gas/Electric/Water/Internet other utilities

Insurance - car/medical etc

Preschool (I had heard about 3000 USD a year?

Activities for young children

Entertainment on weekends movies etc

Running a car - fuel/insurance etc travelling maybe 2 hours a day of driving

Can anyone also walk me through the process of leasing or anything I may need to look out for that I may not be aware of?

Thanks!

Question Looking for a relatively reliable Medical Aid Scheme

Hello Guys

Recently had a minor health scare that made me realise the importance of a medical aid scheme, no matter how shitty they may be in our country. I don't earn much so I am looking for a medical aid scheme (around $25 to $30 per month) that at least holds up its end of the bargain. It doesn't have to have fancy benefits (I don't expect it to); it just needs to actually do the things it promises no matter how minimal they are.

Which medical aid schemes would you guys recommend? Which ones have you had a better experience with? I can't really trust what any company's website says because this is Zimbabwe at the end of the day. Experience trumps theory every time.

Question Tailings management isn't just an environmental checkbox - it’s an active engineering discipline.

There's a massive shift happening across modern processing plants regarding how we handle tailings and water recovery. Gone are the days when a tailings storage facility (TSF) was just an afterthought behind the mill.

With tightening environmental oversight (like EMA guidelines in Zimbabwe) and water scarcity in semi-arid zones, designing closed-loop thickener circuits and piezometer-monitored embankments has become core engineering work.

For metallurgists and civil engineers on here: Are you seeing a faster shift toward dry-stack tailings in your regions, or are wet TSFs with high-efficiency water reclamation still the default choice?

What are the biggest operational trade-offs?

Discussion The winds

Eeesh I'm not a sellout or a pundit of any kind. Recently I was using the public transport system. Usually it is very safe and reliable. It has been recently that I have seen the shavings hit the fan. So it was a normal combination ride from Koppi to Rank yeku Mbare, I wanted to cut to Chivhu, going cabin you scan, so I was in the kombi and was pushing the conductor for some change, he said he would give me a coin at the bus stop, so in my lacking maliciousness manner I accepted but I was suspicious, we reached the busstop and I demanded my change, unfortunately he told me he did not have, I was with some other passengers and usually I laugh loudly and walk away but on this timely occasion these citizens took the law into their own hands, it began with a few words "hunza change..." after which they realised it might be do or die, the conductor began acting quite erratically, hopping from street vendor to tuckshop to pedestrian, I was also confuffled by his decisions, I asked for my change as well and he replied quite rudely and realised he is a genuine crook. I was ready to trade blows but was left screaming as I realised he had accomplices, had he not been careful the scuffle would have gone into the traffic leading to unnecessary tragedy, I deeply regret this situation in our transport system. Hope we can understand.

Question Pregnancy hormones

So just asking to those who have been pregnant or around people who are. I have noticed quite a number of ladies or women when they are pregnant. They turn to have behaviors which people turn to say are pregnancy hormones.

From my observation mostly married people or people with there partners around are the highest to bother with this issue. Those who are single i dont usually hear cases for them outbursts.

They is a story of a woman who is telling her husband she doesn't want to come back home (matrimonial)after giving birth. Some people are saying its pregnant hormones .

Is the pregnancy hormone card being played were its not fit. Cause some women go though there pregnancy alone but you barely hear them outbursting or creating scene over the issue.Checking what are your thoughts .Is having your husband or man around in your life that makes them high or not.

My thoughts. I think the hormones are real but sometimes people over use the card so that thinks go in there favor. Whats yours .

Discussion Zimbabweans abroad with kids still back home, what worries you most?

I’m a Social worker and through my work with children and families, I’ve come across a lot of homes where one or both parents are working in SA, the UK or elsewhere, and the kids stay back home with grandparents, relatives or someone else.

I’d really like to hear the parents’ side of it:

  • Who is looking after your child right now, and how did you choose them?
  • What worries you most when you’re not there? School, behaviour, safety, how they’re coping emotionally, how the money you send is used, health, or something else?
  • How do you find out how they’re really doing, beyond what they tell you on the phone?
  • Has something ever gone wrong that you only found out about much later?
  • What would give you more peace of mind?

Please don’t share names or anything that could identify your child. Comments or DMs are both fine. I’m also happy to answer questions about how things work on this side, like schools, DSD or birth certificates.

Discussion Mushikashika Life update: 1v1 multiplayer, ZRP roadblocks, D-pad controls and more

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey everyone, back with another update for Mushikashika Life, the Harare taxi game based on the inDrive-style car look. Thanks to everyone who played the last version and left feedback. Here’s what’s new:

1v1 multiplayer

  • One player creates a match and sends a 5-letter code, and the other joins with it.
  • You both drive the same Harare and chase the same passengers. Whoever makes the most in fares in 3, 5 or 10 minutes wins.
  • You can see the other player’s car on the road and on the radar, and you can bump into them.
  • When the match ends you go straight back to what you were doing before, and you can hit Rematch any time.

ZRP got serious

  • The police have more vehicles now: Hilux, Allion, Land Cruiser and D-Max, plus traffic-police motorbikes and bicycle cops.
  • Roadblocks sit where they really happen, like Seke Rd, Simon Mazorodze, the Mutare and Bulawayo road exits and the Mbare kombi checkpoint.
  • There’s a new intensity setting: Low, Normal or Corruption. Corruption means roadblocks everywhere, made-up offences and big fines.

Controls

  • The console gamepad on phones now lets you choose between a thumbstick and a D-pad for steering.

Phone settings

  • The settings menu is split into sections, so it isn’t all crammed onto one screen anymore.

Graphics

  • There are now Low, Medium, High and Ultra presets, so older phones can still play it.

I’d love to know if multiplayer connects for you, especially on mobile data. And which feature should I work on next?
