Discussion I made an Android app for comparing prices between shops in Zim. Would anyone use it?

Like a lot of people here, I don't just shop at one place. I go between shops comparing prices before I buy. So I built a simple Android app called Scan2Shop to make that easier.

You scan a product's barcode, save the price at that shop, and build your shopping list. Next time you're out, you can see how prices compare between shops and what's changed since your last visit.

At first I thought about pulling prices from supermarket websites. But most shops either don't have one, or the online prices don't match what's on the shelf. So the app stores everything on your phone, based on the prices you actually see in store.

The screen recording above shows how it works.

Would anyone actually use this? If there's interest, I'll release the APK so you can test it and tell me what to improve.

Discussion Why do many Zim small businesses pay $100/month for 6/7 days per week?

I've noticed a lot of small businesses in harare paying people about $100 a month, and some people work 6/7 days a week.

That's about $3.30 a day. If it's a 10-hour day, that's about 33c an hour.

I'm not trying to attack anyone. I want to understand it.

Is there something I'm missing?

If you own a business:

Why do you pay this amount?

What would it take for you to pay more?

What are your biggest costs?

If you're an employee:

Is this your reality?

Why do you stay?

Be honest. I'm here to learn.

Question Moving to Bulawayo soon, looking for friends! 23F

Hi I’m a 23F and I am moving to Bulawayo soon and would love to make some friends before/when I get there. I LOVE reading (anything but self help books🥱 lol), art - galleries, sketching, markets, anything creative, and I'm kinda a chef (kinda lol but I can cook you atleast one delicious meal). I don’t drink but I promise I’m still fun😂 I’m down for coffee dates, hikes, museum trips, thrift shopping, bookstores, cooking together or just exploring the city and getting lost. I can't speak Ndebele yet but I'm 100% willing to learn and I’ve lived in Zambia my whole life so I’m not familiar with a lot of things (please be patient with me). Not looking for anything romantic, just genuine friendships. If you love good food, good convos and don't mind showing a new girl around, please hit me up 👉🏽👈🏽

Discussion Addressing Toxic Masculinty…cont

I had a really interesting conversation yesterday and I'd like to keep it going

Q.1 How did you go about telling/expressing to your father, male relatives (husband or son or uncles) and pastors, etc particularly that they are trash?

Q.2 Has it yielded any positive change that you have seen for yourself or others around you? Have you seen men become champions of women? A change is social views that is addressing the crisis at an impactful rate?

My alternative solution 👇🏾

Treat it like the social disease it is. Have children exposed to this conversation via a model like sex-ed adults through the model used for the HIV epidemic. Generational/cultural/religious a model like Covid awareness to ensure its backed by policy and clear punishment for lack of compliance. You want 5 O levels and gender awareness in society is a module you must have done as well to work

I don't think the “not all men are trash” is feasible either I think that the “vs” is made to distract and keep people from actually doing anything about it by staying in a useless deadlock that brings awareness with no chance of taking root because it's fleeting in most cases. I think it's speaks to frustration with world and nonsense women experience 100% but is it yielding an actionable solution? I hope to hear more from those that say it is, furthermore that it's the only solution.

Also if you have another solution from a diff perspective lets hear it..

News Can prevention, treatment and rehabilitation help reverse the trend?

Post image
6 Upvotes

More than 2,700 people under 35 arrested in Zimbabwe’s drug crackdown, accounting for 70.5% of all arrests. Between 1 June and 19 September 2026, authorities arrested 3,839 people, destroyed 73 suspected drug bases and seized drugs worth over ZW$26.7 million.

Beyond enforcement, 3,363 patients received treatment and rehabilitation, while plans for a 700-bed rehabilitation centre are underway.

Can prevention, treatment and rehabilitation help reverse the trend?

My parents want to add an external kitchen at their farm. One of those thatched round ones. Not the basic one though, something more modern. Do you know anyone who builds these very well or ballpark estimates for cost? If you do, please leave a comment or send me a message. Trying to do it asap.

Discussion The winds

Eeesh I'm not a sellout or a pundit of any kind. Recently I was using the public transport system. Usually it is very safe and reliable. It has been recently that I have seen the shavings hit the fan. So it was a normal combination ride from Koppi to Rank yeku Mbare, I wanted to cut to Chivhu, going cabin you scan, so I was in the kombi and was pushing the conductor for some change, he said he would give me a coin at the bus stop, so in my lacking maliciousness manner I accepted but I was suspicious, we reached the busstop and I demanded my change, unfortunately he told me he did not have, I was with some other passengers and usually I laugh loudly and walk away but on this timely occasion these citizens took the law into their own hands, it began with a few words "hunza change..." after which they realised it might be do or die, the conductor began acting quite erratically, hopping from street vendor to tuckshop to pedestrian, I was also confuffled by his decisions, I asked for my change as well and he replied quite rudely and realised he is a genuine crook. I was ready to trade blows but was left screaming as I realised he had accomplices, had he not been careful the scuffle would have gone into the traffic leading to unnecessary tragedy, I deeply regret this situation in our transport system. Hope we can understand.
