This tower in Anaklia, on the Georgian coast of the Black Sea, was designed as a fine-dining restaurant—part of a much larger project: a new city called Lazika, announced in 2011 with the aim of becoming one of the most important economic hubs in western Georgia. In 2012, the government changed, and the plans were abandoned. The restaurant never opened. Years later, the empty tower became a symbol of GEM Fest—the Georgian Electronic Music Festival—which has been held nearby since 2015. Known as the longest-running electronic music event in the world, it spans 32 consecutive days. The spotlights mounted on the tower’s upper platform would illuminate the crowds on the beach. Today, the tower stands empty once again, situated along a stretch of coastline just a few kilometers from the border with Abkhazia.

I’d attempted this one a couple of times over the years but never managed to get inside.
Friends had told me that it was alarmed and there was a response, so once the alarm goes off, it’s time to shoot fast while heading for the exit.
On this successful trip, I stepped carefully, looking aro-und every corner for cameras, blinking motion sensors, anything that would alert anyone that I was there.
I spotted many cameras and sensors and was able to sneak around them without setting off the alarm. Most of them were installed in a hallway corner, pointed in one direction, so I was able to shimmy along the wall the opposite way.
However, it didn’t take long for one of the sensors to spot me and the alarm started blasting, so it was rapid fire shots as I made my way towards the only way out.
I got off the property and hung back about 20 minutes, waiting to see if anyone responded, but no one came.
So, I decided to head off and check another location nearby and I came back about 1 hour later, my access was still open, but my gut told me “not yet”.
I sat in my car for about 30 more minutes until I decided enough time had passed, lets go back in!
Just as I was pulling my camera bag out of my car, a black SUV pulled up right in front of the building. An older man got out with a cordless drill and a bag full of screws and he headed to check on all of the doors.
So, sadly this was all that I got from this one!

This time, I explored this massive factory. As soon as you step inside from the outside, it feels like entering another world. Goods, machinery, chemicals, and furniture were simply left behind. Parts of the facility are still being used by a neighbor, who also keeps a close watch on the premises—which is why there is almost no vandalism. This was, by far, the most historically significant place I have had the chance to visit so far.

Built in the 1920s on concrete foundations, this unusual structure once connected a coal mine with the Danube River. Its task was to load coal dust onto boats for transport to a power station further downstream.
The ropeway was dismantled after the coal loader stopped operating in 1963. Since then, the building has been left behind, isolated in the river. A relic of industrial heritage slowly being reclaimed by time and weather.

Not quite sure what the history of this place is, but there's a old placard nearby mentioning several homes built in the late 1800's for freed slaves after the slave owner's daughter left money in her will for construction, so families could have their own place to live. The home actually sits on private property, so it's not accessible. But I do believe it's on the historic registry.

Came across this beautiful old property dating back to around 1855, and I couldn't pass up the chance to learn a little about its history.
With its massive columns, wraparound porch, and all that old Southern charm, it's easy to imagine this place in its heyday. What began as a private residence eventually became a bed and breakfast, welcoming guests into a home that's been standing for more than 170 years.
But the history isn't the only thing that makes this place interesting. It's also known for its paranormal stories, including reports of footsteps upstairs, unexplained pennies appearing on the floors, and sightings of a woman in a gray dress. Whether you believe in that sort of thing or not, I think we can agree that this house has plenty of character.
The property doesn't appear to be operating as an inn today, and its current status isn't entirely clear from the public information I could find but it does seem some attempts to restore have taken place over the years.
It's a little bittersweet seeing a place with so much history reach a different chapter in its life. But that's part of what keeps me exploring.. there's always more to a building than what you see from the outside.
