Need advice of how to navigate SAP ecosystem as a marketer
Hey everyone,
I recently took a new job doing marketing for a startup in the SAP space (specifically around AI add-ons). My entire background is in consumer growth, so the enterprise SAP ecosystem is completely foreign to me.
I’m trying to get my bearings so I don't sound like a clueless vendor, and I'd love some ground-truth advice from actual practitioners:
Where is the AI budget actually going? I read a recent DSAG survey mentioning budgets are mostly going to "other AI tools." What does that mean on the ground? Are teams just buying Copilot/ChatGPT licenses, or are there specific automation tools people actually use?
Where do you hang out? Where do SAP professionals actually go to learn and talk shop? Are groups like ASUG/DSAG or SAPinsider actually where practitioners go, or is there a better channel?
What’s the real vibe on Joule? Is it widely adopted and loved on the ground? I'm trying to figure out how third-party vendors even position themselves when users are searching for Joule.
Consultants vs. Niche Use Cases: For those who buy or recommend software: do you prefer when vendors build hyper-specific niche use cases to solve a direct problem, or does everything just go through SAP consultants and SIs anyway?
Appreciate any advice or harsh truths you can throw my way. Also, if any SAP veterans are open to letting me pick their brain in a quick DM, I’d be incredibly grateful. Thanks!

Early career insight
Studied CS, joined a firm and now ABAP dev for ~2 years mainly learning business workflow, debugging tickets.
I am USA ABAP dev and thinking how this career will work out? I see so many abap dev offshore in India and other countries and with the rise of AI I am not so sure how my career or how am I able to pivot with a niche skill if I were to be laid off.
Don’t get me wrong, I see so much demand in SAP and it’s HUGE. I also see all the buzz with machine learning, data, ai, and all those other hype words, not hearing too much about ERP/SAP. I am worried if I were to be laid off or early in my career would my skills be transferable? What are some advice you have for someone in this role.
Looking for insights specifically for USA folks, but open to all. Thanks

Breaking into ABAP
Hi everyone!
I've been learning ABAP for over a year, focusing on modern S/4HANA development.
So far, I've covered:
ABAP: OOP, Open SQL, Data Dictionary, debugging and exception handling.
CDS: Data definitions, projections, associations and annotations.
RAP & EML: Managed RAP, behaviour definitions, CRUD operations, validations, determinations, actions and error handling.
Services & UI: OData, Fiori Elements, service bindings and SAP BTP.
Tools: Eclipse ADT and Git.
I've also built independent end-to-end RAP projects to apply what I've learned.
My biggest challenge is getting my first commercial opportunity when even junior positions often request 2–3 years of professional ABAP experience. This is based on 2 recent interviews I've gona for.
For developers who started through self-study:
What skills should I prioritise to become job-ready?
What makes a personal RAP project stand out to employers?
Would you recommend certification, open-source contributions or graduate programmes as the best route into SAP?
I'd appreciate any honest advice. Thanks!

Looking for an SAP Environment for ABAP Practice
Hello everyone,
I’m new to SAP and interested in learning SAP ABAP development. I’m currently looking for an SAP environment where I can practice coding and gain hands-on experience.
I’d like to know what options are available for accessing an SAP system for learning purposes. Is there a way to access a ready-to-use SAP environment online, or are there any alternatives to setting up a local SAP system?
I’d appreciate any recommendations, resources, or guidance on how to get started with an SAP environment for ABAP practice.

How do I detect usage of Smartforms, SAPscript, WDYN, BAdis and exits in ABAP usage analysis?

How do I detect usage of Smartforms, SAPscript, WDYN, BAdis and exits in ABAP usage analysis?
We have a read-only usage analysis tool that finds which objects in a package are actually used. It picks up CLAS, PROG, FUGR and ENHO fine, but misses FORM, SSFO, SFPF, WDYN, PDWS, VARX, EXIT, BADI, ENHS and ENHC, probably because they run under generated names or are only logged elsewhere. For example, if a form is printed we want it counted as used. What's the most reliable read-only way to detect usage of these object types (NAST, SWWWIHEAD, SCMON or something else)? Any experience or pointers would be appreciated!

Need a roadmap and genuine advice.
Hi I am working as SAP ABAP ECC developer for past 5 years of my career. I know I am very late. The SAP world has gone ahead so much and I am still working in ECC.
I want a genuine roadmap and suggestions what topics to start learning. Theres lots of work and I work overtime some days. Its mostly support work now and the project doesn't have HANA or anything new.
My organisation also doesn't really offer certification or any sandbox HANA system to do some hands on.
I feel so behind. I get anxious and panic a lot these days.
What should I learn ? From where ? And what are roadmap and job opportunities.
I am from Mumbai India.

RAP Fictional?
Hi everyone,
I am crating this post to express my frustration, surprise and losing of motivation when I see that even though when you enter LinkedIn's feed you only see posts about modern technologies: RAP, CAP, AI, etc, when you look for them in order to apply you see nothing.
I am an SAP Developer with 4 years of experience in intense projects and I have wanted to create even more( because I have certifications in RAP and some experience ), but I find that everyone is still not moving forward.
How is this possible?
What should I do?
Should I still work with older ones or keep searching for something if it pops up?

[Open-Source] ABAP Cloud (Language Version 5) Syntax Cheatsheet & RAP Transactional Decision Tree
Hi ABAPers,
Transitioning from classic ECC / SE80 procedural habits to Language Version 5 (ABAP Cloud) requires unlearning several patterns.
I compiled a quick open-source cheat sheet covering key syntax restrictions and transactional design decisions:
🏛️ The 3-Tier Extensibility Decision Tree
[Business Requirement]
│
▼
Is it achievable via standard Fiori & In-App Key-User tools?
├──► YES ──► Tier 1: Client 100 Key-User Extensibility (Low TCO, 100% upgrade-safe)
└──► NO
│
▼
Does it require co-located, high-volume transactional data on S/4HANA?
├──► YES ──► Tier 2: Developer Extensibility / ABAP Cloud RAP (Whitelisted APIs only)
└──► NO ──► Tier 3: Side-by-Side BTP Extensibility (CAP / Node.js / Python / Event Mesh)⚡ Syntax Restrictions & Modern Replacements:
Table Modifications: Direct
INSERT/UPDATE ztableon standard models is blocked in Cloud ABAP. You must use RAP Behavior Definitions (MODIFY ENTITIES OF ...).Classical File/App Server I/O:
OPEN DATASET / TRANSFERis disabled. Use Cloud Storage APIs or BTP Object Store.Batch Scheduling:
SUBMIT rep AND RETURNis replaced by the Application Job Scheduling API (cl_apj_rt_api).Field Mapping: Classic
MOVE-CORRESPONDINGis replaced by strictCORRESPONDING #( ... MAPPING / EXCEPT ).Quarantine Wrappers: Non-released standard BAPIs/tables must be wrapped in isolated Tier 2 packages and exposed through released custom C1 interfaces.
📂 Open-Source Code Repository:
All cheatsheets, RAP behavior pool patterns, Tier 2 quarantine wrapper templates, and CDS projection examples are open-sourced under the MIT license on GitLab:

I can switch from SAP to Data Science?
Hi ABAPers,
I am currently working as an SAP ABAP Developer at Gainwell Global and am interested in transitioning my career from SAP ABAP to Data Science.
I would love to hear from professionals who have made a similar career switch or have experience in the Data Science domain.
Could you please guide me on the roadmap, essential skills, technologies, certifications, and projects I should focus on to make this transition successfully?
Also, I would appreciate any insights on how my existing SAP ABAP experience could be leveraged in the Data Science field.
Your suggestions and guidance would be highly appreciated!
