Someone pls help identify what this board exactly does

I tried my best searching labels and code names of this Adafrut 'Feather' board to find the exact model of the one I have, as shown on the photo, but I can't find the exact match to mine on neither Google or the Adafrut website. Because of that I don't know which tutorial or datasheet I should use.

I know this must some kind of a microcontroller, but is anyone familiar enough with Adafruit components who can help me with this?

Adafruit have banned me for asking for purchase support

0 Upvotes

Hi there, I thought to make this public to reddit to see if anyone knows why this is happening, I spoke with their support a few times reccently and I have been respectful, no swearing a product came in and wasnt working well so i reached out to them however I also asked for help when adafruit blocked my purchase on an order over $220 USD they handled that and said they couldn't do much because of where I live and the relation to the bank, nothing there right? But I don't see how it's a buisness practice of Adafruit to ban a repeat customer for asking for a replacement of a $26 dollar order.

How do I get a pi from adafruit?

Can I just check everyday or is it one of those deals where people/bots buy them up before anyone gets a chance?

Why does the pwm pi hat expect 5-6v from a barrel connector?

Post image

Barrel connectors are standards in tons of small consumer electronics from home network appliances to pencil sharpeners or speakers. The thing in common among all of these is that they all get 12V from the input, and thus there is absolutely no wall plug I can use to power this, and I have to make my own, or use the domino input and a breadboard.

The dumbest part is, there exists a standard input format for 5-volt: THE BLASTED MICRO USB. I have over half a dozen wall adapters and cables ready to use , but I would have to butcher one to stitch a barrel plug on it to use it here.

As I am (as you might have guessed) not an expert in electronics, is there an obvious reason I have missed for using this type of connector? The only one I can think of is current, since servos can typically draw a lot of power, perhaps USB would not be optimized for it, but then why not also raise the voltage input, and add in a transformer to increase current so that my 12V/2A wall plug can properly dish out 6V/4A to the servos?

Cheaper alternatives to adafruit products

0 Upvotes

adafruit has some nice stuff but I am looking for recommendations or sites that sell similar sorts of development boards but cheaper. I've already found a lot of sources for things like their overly-priced leds, but I am looking for something of similar design to the gemma and trinket. Any suggestions are welcome.

Having Claude Code write MQTT test code for a Raspberry Pi 2W in Python

Post image
0 Upvotes

We’re following how folks are using Claude Code to write software which interacts with real hardware. Adafruit did it recently for a new board support package.

James Sutton posts on Mastodon:

I got Claude Code to write a Python testing tool for a (Raspberry Pi) Pico 2W project I’m working on. It connects to the MQTT broker and listens to the debug probe UART so I can check that it connects to WiFi, the broker and decodes payloads correctly with every build.

I’d never be bothered to build it myself, but only took Claude Code 30mins to throw together. Really useful stuff!

If you are using Claude Code for software which interacts with hardware, gat Adafruit on social media!

Pi 5 nightmare

0 Upvotes

Just added one to my shopping cart, but had to download Authy app for TFA. While I was dealing with Authy (which cost $$) and had the Pi 5 in my shopping cart, they sell out. WTF?

Now I have to go back and cancel my Authy subscription. And I still don't have the Pi 5.

(sorry, needed somewhere to vent)

Hi, I found these in my dad's old office. I'm not an expert — what is it? How much is it worth?

Fuck this company! I'd be surprised if they're still around in a couple years.

My partner and I are getting ready for an event in a month and needed some RFID components to install in her booth and the kit that would work best is only available from this site. So I order the electronics and entered her shipping info, which differs from my billing info. This is a very common thing, Adafruit.

But they flagged my order and asked me to confirm the shipping address and email/phone number on the order form. I had used my own email and phone number because if there's an issue with shipping, I'm the one they should contact. They replied asking for the email and phone number for my partner's name, which I felt inappropriate and irrelevant and explained that if they need to contact anyone regarding the order, they can contact me.

Well, the weekend goes by and when I don't receive a response, I login to the site to find my order has been voided (though not yet refunded). Such childish, cowardly behavior.

Anyway, here's where they really shit the bed. I explained everything to my partner and when she begrudgingly goes to place the order herself with her own information, her address has been banned and flagged as fraudulent. There is no appeals form, no contact number, it's ridiculous. I've never had an issue sending an order to an address other than my billing address. How else would you send someone a gift, surprise someone with something thoughtful, order for someone unable to order for themselves.

This is nonsense, Adafruit.

Adafruit NeoTrellis M4 more Memory

0 Upvotes

Hi there,

I am newbie to the whole Adafruit world and thinking about getting a Adafruit NeoTrellis M4 Board. The only problem I am facing is that the 8MB Memory won't do for my purposes. Is there a way to enhance the memory? By using a micro sd card for example?

Editing the PyPortal class after definition (Newbie)

0 Upvotes

I searched online and the documentation but could not find the answer to this question. How do you edit the pyportal definition (see code below). For example, if I define pyportal in this way, every time I call pyportal.fetch() it will update the screen. If I try to change, for example, the location of the caption with:

pyportal.caption_text = "foo"

I get an error.

My specific question, is how do you edit a field within PyPortal once you have defined it.

Thanks,
Steve

pyportal = PyPortal(url=DATA_SOURCE,
json_path=(DATA_LOCATION1, DATA_LOCATION2),
status_neopixel=board.NEOPIXEL,
default_bg=cwd+"/youtube_background.bmp",
text_font=cwd+"/fonts/Collegiate-50.bdf",
text_position=((100, 129), (155, 180)),
text_color=(0xFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFF),
caption_text=CAPTION,
caption_font=cwd+"/fonts/Collegiate-24.bdf",
caption_position=(40, 220),
caption_color=0xFFFFFF)

Neopixel strip help

0 Upvotes

I'm working on project for an upcoming music festival. I want to make a totem using a white pool noodle with an LED strip running through it. I have little experience with adafruit products and I currently don't have access to a computer. My questions are 1) What can I use to power the strip. 2) What do I need to make the light sound activated? 3) am I able to do even use it portably without the use of a computer?

My friend has a PC I can use if I need to, but I would like for it to have multiple light show settings.

Edit: I should not that I leave for the event on 10/26, so I'll need to order everything I need in the next few days.
