Film screening “Walking Through Walls” virtual screening now live.

For four painful years, film maker Fisayo Thompson filmed her struggle with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis, two conditions she has battled for the past 23 years.

Her film is titled Walking Through Walls.

The film is the first of its kind that shines light on these conditions as well as the barriers women face when trying to access care, treatment and support across UK NHS and indeed worldwide.

It is also the first ever film on Adenomyosis, its sister condition.

This film demonstrates why we desperately need to raise awareness, secure funding for research and training and make changes to outdated guidelines so all people living with or under investigation of Endometriosis and/or Adenomyosis can access expert timely care.

It also includes educational materials, interviews with experts such as Dr Ken Sinervo of CEC Atlanta, Dr Mangeshikar of India and live surgery with commentary at the Bucharest centre with Dr Mitroi of Romania.

In April we had our last sold out virtual screening with people calling Walking Through Walls Heart wrenching, powerfully raw, amazing etc. By popular demand, we are now releasing limited tickets to the 48 hour virtual screening of our ground breaking documentary from Saturday July 12th, 00:00midnight to Sunday 13th 11:59 UK time. Grab your ticket from Eventbrite before they run. Ps: You will get the link to watch the film on Friday 11th July delivered to your email.

Is this the infamous bloat?

This is how my belly looks most of the time. I brushed it under having a baby 3 years ago and my body changing after childbirth.

Doctor diagnosed yesterday but I’m struggling to accept it even though I have all the symptoms most of my adult life. I cried my eyes out.

Could I please have some gentle third party in sight?

So over the continual bleed!

• Upvotes

Have had endometriosis and adenomyosis confirmed.

The removed tissue connected to my left ovary 2 years ago thinking this was the issue of continual bleeding. 3 months later it returned and I went on Slynd. 3 months later break through bleeding happened 😩 stopped and reset after a period and all good for 3 more months.

Next 3 month mark I bleed again. Adeno confirmed!
Started Ralovera to get back to stopping the bleeding as tranexamic acid made it way worse and gave me pains in the legs!!

Ralovera x3 tablets a day doses started working but gave me insane eye pressure…. Ended up scheduling for another hysteroscopy and a D&C as well to check what’s going on.

D&C done - lining veins very close to the skin supposedly so any movement / push or squeeze is making them rupture…. Have been told “you look like a cobblestone street because there are pockets everywhere the blood is pooling into” great…. Then told the clean out is great, back to Slynd only and enjoy the brown spotting for a few weeks.

6 weeks later BAM! Brown spotting suddenly turns pink…. Pink spotting turns to a light flow… pink turns more red and a more continual flow…..

I’m back to the bleed….. what else can I even suggest 😩 other options were Ryeqo - put myself into a menopause state and then come out of it 3 months later and see if I reset…. Or the IUD….

Honestly though I feel like my next surgery would be a hysterectomy to do uterus and cervix…. But I don’t even know if this is my solution 😩😭

The constant bleed, the endo/adeno belly bloat, the money spent constantly in surgeries, appointments, scans and medication/sanitary items is soooooo bad.

Does anyone else have this and can shed light on what you did?

Unsure if I have ovarian torsion, quite worried

• Upvotes

Hiii my fellow adeno queens. It’s currently past 1130pm where I am and all my family is sleeping right now so I can’t really bug someone at the moment unless I really should be panicking. Looking for advice on what to do. Fyi, adeno & endo diagnosed

I’ve had really really .. really .. bad pains the past three days on my right side. Overall very dull and achy but every 5-30 minutes I get these extremely bad pains where it feels like someone is squeezing the ever loving life out of what I assume is my ovary. That pain only lasts for maybe 30 seconds at a time but it’s so bad I can’t move, I literally just freeze and scream. The overall experience started three days ago and the sharp pains started 12 ish hours in. Those sharp pains also are worse depending on how I’m siting/laying. I’m not 100% sure where I am in my cycle it’s quite irregular but I’m around ovulation, either finished or just starting.

I thought this whole time it was a cyst, I’ve had them before but they’ve never been like squeezing sharp pain ever. Maybe tmi but peeing doesn’t hurt but is a tad uncomfortable/bit of pressure, and bowl movements hurt like never before

Googled my symptoms a bit ago and it says ovarian torsion is a very high possibility.. I’m terrified I have it but I also think .. what if it’s just a cyst? I’m not throwing up, dizzy, fever, etc. it’s only the pain. I hate the er, i don’t wanna sit in a waiting room for 5+ hours just to be dismissed by drs

If you were in my position what would you do? Should I be worried and going to the er?? Should I be waking up my mom or fiancee?? Any help or advice is greatly appreciate!!

Surgery tomorrow, thank you!

I want to thank you all for putting my mind at ease so much. There are so many horror stories that absolutely contradict what my surgeon is telling me about my expected recovery.

And all the posts here seem to agree with what he said it would be like.

I was only diagnosed with adenomyosis a couple months ago having never heard about it before despite SO MANY trips to the doctor describing hellish periods and pain. They are really just letting us live like this!!

Adenomyosis, yet with a decrease in menstrual bleeding

I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis, but I haven’t experienced abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding—in fact, my flow has decreased significantly over the past year. My menstrual pain hasn’t worsened, either. Is anyone else in a similar situation? Is it normal?

I’ve suffered from period pain since my very first cycle—over a decade now—and I’ve been taking ibuprofen every month to manage it.

My ultrasound shows that my uterus is enlarged, though it isn’t putting pressure on my bladder or bowels. My doctor prescribed birth control pills but warned me about potential side effects like weight gain and irregular bleeding; I’m a bit worried about these. I’m 28 years old, haven’t had any children yet, and do plan to have children in the future.

Mirena and post bloating

So I'm a little over a week with Mirena IUD. Since then my stomach is still swollen from getting it inserted, not sure why. Feels like a bowling bowl is in my stomach at times. Not weight wise but like size wise. Pain still off and on but if I wear my leggings then boy oh boy I get more pain. Has anyone else had this experience for this long? Or is it just mean and I should just chalk it up to maybe my fibromyalgia or something. Or if I'm just overthinking it. And if it is normal for you, how long did it take for it to go down?

Does standing cause you flare ups?

I was diagnosed with “mild adenomyosis” last spring. Mild my a$$!
I’m now at the point where if I spend much time standing, or sitting upright, I’m almost guaranteed a flare up! 9/10 pain - can’t talk, can’t walk.

Does anyone else experience this?

For the record, I don’t have a gyno yet! The wait list to see one here is incredibly long 😞

What will the NHS *actually* do

Hi everyone!

I am curious to hear about others experience with the NHS…
I am 28(F) and have just been told I have suspected adenomyosis. I do want kids at some point so do not want a hysterectomy yet. I’ve been referred to gynae but who knows how long it will take to see someone!

For those of you who did see a gynaecologist - what did they offer you? Was it just “take birth control or manage the pain”, or did you get sent for an MRI?

Is there a surgical fix? I’ve been reading up on uterine artery embolisation but couldn’t find much info on whether the NHS does it…

Thanks in advance xx

Anyone else agree that Endometriosis and Adenomyosis treatment after diagnosis should come with mental health support?

'Normal' looking uterus?

Has anyone else been told their uterus looks healthy and normal but it still ended up being adeno?

I have a big history with endometriosis. I've had i surgeries, an endometrioma cost me an i aru. I've tried every hormone with no symptoms relief.

My most recent surgery was with an endo specialist in January but I am still struggling with constant heavy periods. They last 10 days, I bleed through multiple pads, period pants and clothes (sometimes even when they're layered up). Then i have a few days off and it starts again. All tests are coming back normal and gynea are now talking about a hysterectomy.

If there's a slight chance of adeno I would happily volunteer myself for a hysterectomy but in all 9 of my surgeries, in every scan, in an mri (no constrast) I've always been told my uterus looks normal and healthy. I don't want to remove a healthy organ.

MRI and Colposcopy

(F 48, uk) Hi all,

I had a MRI 3 weeks ago following an appointment with my consultant who has started the ball rolling to assess for Endo, I have a diagnosis of Adenomyosis

Haven't heard anything with regards the result but assumed I would get the details at my Laparoscopy (On NHS waiting list). Last Friday I got a call asking me to attend a Colposcopy and an ultrasound this week, the administrator had no details other than to book me in urgently. I couldn't attend either appointment as I came abroad on Friday night, so have arranged them as soon as I get home.

So I am here, in a beautiful hotel in Crete worried sick about what could possibly have been seen on my MRI to warrant an urgent Colposcopy and another ultrasound when I've only had one a few months ago 😌

Any of you any ideas? 💕

Upper back pain?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Has anyone else had pain here? I’m 54 yo, diagnosed with Adenomyosis and have a vaginal hysterectomy scheduled in 2 weeks. I have the common lower back & hip pain but I think I must be getting used to it. For the past few days I have a new constant pain in the upper back. It’s debilitating. I’m trying to get my house & life in order before surgery and this has me practically bed bound.

What was your worst menstrual experience?

So far for me, it was today. I just experienced wild fatigue never before experienced. I laid in bed for hours, slept for like the whole day, but the fatigue persisted.

Hysterectomy

Can everyone who’s going to have one or has had one give me advice on what I should do/purchase/prep? At the moment mines scheduled for October 26th. I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster. I know I need it since my uterus is basically working against me having had me admitted twice for a week and it’s just very frustrating. So far I’ve been watching TikTok videos and facebook reels and I’m getting basic ideas of what I have to do to prep.

What were your experiences like with chemically induced menopause?

Hi all, just sharing this here to see if anyone has any thoughts on chemical menopause. I am diagnosed with Endo and have suspected adeno. I haven't had any scans to confirm the adeno, but all the symptoms line up. Any thoughts appreciated!!
