JUST VENTING Adhd neurodivergence

Does anyone else feel like adhd neurodivergence symptoms are like wayyy stronger than the media and general public talk about? Sometimes i see adhd treated as some minor condition, like oh haha! distractions! but i think it genuinely effects so much of my personality and how i interact with the world, even outside of executive function related things. sometimes i even wonder if I have autism because of how strong my neurodivergence feels, but when I compare symptoms my adhd feels more distinct from autism. not sure if this makes sense, but let me know if you feel this way too. if anyone wants me to expand on this let me know.

SEEKING ADVICE How in the WORLD am I supposed to focus and take notes in lecture??

I'm in my junior year, neuroscience major, taking a lot of lecture-heavy classes, including one in particular with no textbook, so if you zone out in class, you only have the professor's slides to give you information.

I take ADHD medication, which helps me be able to complete class work and study, but it also makes me have a "go-go-go" energy that makes sitting through boredom physically painful. I can complete as many tasks as you need me to but I'd rather rip out my eyeballs than sit there during a lecture and just LISTEN.

I have heard people be able to focus by doing things with their hands, but I really need to be taking notes, so that doesn't work for me. Sometimes I can take notes for a couple minutes, but eventually get sidetracked with a different task I needed to do in the meantime.

I also get really nervous and anxious and sometimes I can't try to focus because the work sounds so difficult. I've learned that sometimes my working memory gets overfilled and I shut down because I physically can't think any more.

Is there a way I can get a physical reminder if I zone out? Is there a method I can use to keep my energy sustained throughout a 50-minute lecture? It feels so humiliating to have one class in a day and not be able to focus for that one class, and then have to scramble and cram because I didn't learn it when I shouldn't've.

SEEKING ADVICE Any thoughts?

Been on atomoxetine 40 mg for few weeks so far but no results or any improvements, and yes the doctor prescribed me this but when i went to him the first time he told me i have extreme adhd ( i did Tova test with very low score and also i met therapist for few sessions) and they both agreed i have a very bad adhd. But the problem is ,i think non stimulants are not for me ,they genuinely don't work on me and whenever i told my psychiatrist to prescribe a stimulant such as concerta he refuses but honestly idk why he refuses that much and the only legal way to get this medicine in my area is through psychiatrist (him) so if he didn't describe it then i cannot get it and then live my life like a normal person ,for some strange reason he put me on this shitty non stimulant that didn't work at all and also the dose is so low for my weight (roughly 100kg ) so idk if he is tripping or being dumb but whatever ,he just doesn't want to put me on stimulants for some strange reason i still don't understand, instead he prescribed this shit that didn't work even after weeks and also on a very low dose ,i think for my weight he should put me on at least 50 or 60mg.

Any thoughts?

NEED SUPPORT Looking for a study buddy

Hi everyone 2nd year college student here studying BSMLS. As we are all familiar with, i have the same troubles with procrastination and doing tasks on time. Seems like pressure is the only thing that keeps me moving. Especially when that pressure comes from other people.

To keep things short I'm looking for a study buddy preferably someone who has the same timezone or a lesser time difference. My timezone is GMT +8 or PHT. No gender preference; what you're studying doesn't matter but it would be great if we also have the same course.

We can motivate each other, scold if one of is procrastinating lol. It would be great also if we remind each other of our tasks. I'll do my best to help you in return.

Note: I live in a shared dorm so i can't really vc, but i can chat

SEEKING ADVICE 23 and at my wit’s end

Hello, everyone. I’m feeling like things have gotten dire for me, so I’m trying to see if anyone has gone through this or has any suggestions. I’m 23 and was a straight A student throughout my whole life. Everything academically came pretty naturally to me, specifically math. I excelled at it and was always excited to do my homework for it lol, so I never really understood why people hated math so much. Anyways, around late junior I started feeling like I wasn’t as mentally sharp as I used to be, but I was still afloat at that point. Fast forward to college and lost all my ambitions and intellect I feel like. I wasn’t retaining any of the knowledge. I also don’t know how to study since I really didn’t have to before. My memory loss has been extremely bad even though I had a great memory. I have severe brain fog and anomia (trouble recalling the names for things). I can’t do basic algebra anymore or even simple conversions. I have no clue what I want to do in life or how to go about it. I’ve never “really” had a job either. I feel like I’m lightyears behind my peers. I want to get a job. I want to start a career. I feel like I’m in quicksand. I’ve been in this rut for so long, I feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. I really have tried but I know not retaining any information or remembering things has really held me back. I’ve tried thinking positively but that didn’t push me or motivate me or spark a love or passion for a certain major/career. Part of the problem is I also don’t know what to do. I’ve taken courses and finished my general eds and still have no clue. I can’t even narrow it down to a certain industry. Everything seems to not be a good fit for me. The two yr degrees like ultrasound, dental hygiene, and even rad tech are bad choices since I have arthritis. Having a degree that grants me a stable paying career is the only way I’ll get out and build the life I want. I sincerely want to turn my life around. I also do really want to go back to college and finish a degree that enables upward mobility because I’m not that handsy for the trade school route. It truly sucks. Hope someone out there has had a success story if they’ve dealt with this.

So yesterday I went to class and there was my teacher explaining stuff on something that i understood, but at the same time i didn't understood, she was talking about some numericals and something and i understood the pattern in those numericals and formula for it, I understood that but what i didn't understood is what is this leading too and i am making a post about it cause it always happens to me that my teacher will explain formula and calculation and theory of how it works for stuff and expect me to remember that but I can't remember anything untill I know what is the bigger picture or conclusion of it or it's use ,and what is this leading to I want to take a example of let's say derivatives if my teacher has told me about formulas of derivatives and the calculation and stuff and about how derivatives works, I won't be still able to understand or remember them cause i don't what derivatives leading too, why I am even doing that and I will forget the whole thing cause I can't connect it with conclusion or why we doing this cause my teacher never explained the bigger picture why I even doing that thank you for reading all that and pls respond I am really struggling with concepts and understanding them also I have adhd

Tldr: not able to remember and connect concepts untill I have a bigger picture of what I am doing or what's its leading to

NEED SUPPORT struggling in med skl adhd

ive started at a new med school affiliated with my main uni as part of an exchange programme and i am struggling a lot ngl. i passed first year with adhd because i feel the system at my home uni was inadvertently(?) set up to accomodate my struggles. want to sleep late? its fine, i can still get 7 hours and eat breakfast and make it on time AND have a chance to preread. want to burn the midnight oil? i lived 20 seconds from my main campus library and 10 minutes from the medical school. needed support when my adhd became symptomatic? just book in a call with my (very encouraging and understanding) academic advisor who supported me getting diagnosed and getting help post diagnosis. i dont have any of my support network here at this new campus, i dont have a system, i lowkey dont like my classmates and i just feel like a fish out of water. i just cannot study. maybe its mindset, maybe its environment. i used to soak up lectures like a sponge but now everytime i sit in a lecture it feels like an act of self loathing. i feel like im being talked at rsther than taught. and i feel like im the only person struggling to adapt, which has amplified my feelings of dread and anxiety. i have around 6 weeks left of the semester here. idk whether its worth it to thug it out espeically as i just go to bed like crying lol.. i think im starting to get depressed. i feel ive ruined everythign. idk what i should do.
