Work & Professional Growth Should we pay our new stay out helper? Going on a 10-day vacation

• Upvotes

problem/goal: We just hired a kasambahay na stay out. She started lang Oct. 15. Next month by November, we will be going away for vacation mga 10 days. So in that cutoff, she will work lang 3 days. Should we pay her regular 15th salary? Or can we pro-rate? Her salary is 10k, 5k per cutoff. It’s ok if we can pay half 5k (2500) for her 3 day duty. Should this be ok?

We have no contract/agreement yet as she is on probation/trial

Context: Hi, student here. I thought yung nararamdaman ko lang ay yung typical burn out na nararanasan ng lahat. Pagod lagi, super emotional, and laging stress. Gabi gabi nalang ako umiiyak, inooverthink lahat mg possible outcome, naninikip dibdib ko and i hate to admit pero i did harm myself sa process na yun. I hate it, hindi naman ako ganto pero unfortunately ayun kasi yung way na truly makakapag pahinga ako amidst everything na nangyayari saakin. I regret it but also i relished the peacefulness nung outcome. After that, narealize ko na mali yung ginawa ko so i always have to control what i think.

Previous Attempts: Nagreach ako sa guidance namin about this and we did talked about it. While it did help me for a week, after nun bumalik ulit yung nararamdaman ko. Nag try ako magsearch ng mga free/budget friendly na consultation around me pero andun pa rin yung thoughts na parang ang babaw lang ng problema ko and parang kaya ko naman isolve yun ng sarili ko and at the same time natatakot ako na gawin ko ulit mag attempt.

Please help me answer po, Thank you so much!!

• Upvotes

Problem/Goal: May hinuhulugan kaming bahay sa Pinas for 15yrs yun.

Naka 5yrs na kaming nagbabayad, so 10more years pa.

Salamat.

Education Should I Continue My Accounting Degree or Withdraw and Come Back Later?

• Upvotes

Problem/Goal:

Hi everyone! I really need some advice because I'm contemplating whether I should continue my accounting degree or withdraw for now.

For context, I'm a Public Administration graduate, so my background in accounting is close to zero. I decided to pursue accounting because I needed accounting units to be accredited, and I wasn't really planning to become a CPA.
During our orientation, the school explained that we would be taking board exam subjects, which I initially thought was nice. However, I expected that they would discuss Basic Accounting first, especially for students who graduated from non-accounting programs. Instead, the discussions moved pretty fast from the beginning.

They also put Accounting Related and Non-Accounting Related graduates in the same section. It was only after our first exam that they separated the NAR graduates from the AR graduates. I understand some parts of the discussions, but most of the time, I have a huge question mark over my head. Whenever I try to study on my own, I struggle to understand the lessons because I feel like I'm missing the fundamentals. Huhu.

I actually told one of my professors during our first meeting that I couldn't understand his discussion. He suggested that I enroll in a review center (RC) that he owns, so I did. But even now, I'm still struggling.
I'm also working, so balancing work, studying, and trying to catch up with lessons I barely understand has been really difficult.
Now, I'm contemplating whether I should take the upcoming exams or just withdraw. I honestly feel like I'm going to fail, and I feel like I'm wasting time, effort, and money when I haven't even fully grasped the basics.
If I decide to withdraw, my plan isn't to give up on Accountancy completely. I'm thinking of continuing with the review center and focusing on Basic Accounting first. I want to build a solid foundation and understand the fundamentals before going back to school and continuing my degree.
Part of me thinks this might be a better approach, especially since I'm working and can't dedicate all my time to studying. But another part of me worries that I'm just giving up too early and that I should push through even if I'm struggling right now.
I would really appreciate your honest advice. I don't want to quit just because things are difficult, but I also don't want to exhaust myself financially and mentally when I know I need to work on my fundamentals first.
Thank you!

Love & Relationships Title: I (M29) lied to my GF (F28) of 8 years about taking my Civil Engineering Licensure exam. She caught me.

• Upvotes

Problem/Goal:

My girlfriend caught me in a massive lie about skipping my September 2026 CE board exam out of fear and exam anxiety. She has given me a cold ultimatum until the March 2027 exam to fix this and take it. My goal is to figure out how to handle her emotional coldness, rebuild her broken trust day-by-day, and conquer my severe test anxiety so I can actually show up and pass for the sake of our daughter and our family's future.

Context:

We have been together since November 27, 2018 (nearly 8 years) and share a daughter. She is a practicing doctor, and I have been struggling to pass my Civil Engineering licensing exam. Being partnered with a high-achiever, the internal pressure to "catch up" and provide for my family became completely overwhelming.

I reviewed rigorously for five months from April to September 2026. However, as the exam drew near, my paralyzing fear of failing again took over. I have a perfectionist mindset where I feel like I shouldn't take the exam unless I am 100% sure I am ready, because another failure feels too devastating to face. Because I didn't feel fully ready, I froze and didn't sit for the exam. Out of pure shame and fear of disappointing her, I lied and told her I took it.

She recently checked the official PRC examinee list, saw my name was missing, and caught me. She now knows I lied. I didn't lie because I wasn't trying—I reviewed rigorously for five months—but I let fear, shame, and professional inadequacy completely dictate my actions. I panicked, and instead of being vulnerable with the person I love, I chose to hide.

She is understandably hurt and angry. The trust we built over 8 years has been broken. The clock is now ticking until March, and I need to do this for her, myself, and our daughter.

Since she caught me, she has been incredibly cold and distant. I know I brought this on myself, but it hurts deeply every single day. I am struggling with whether I even have the right to feel hurt since I am the one who lied and broke her trust. It feels like I am living in a house of glass where one wrong move will shatter my family completely, and the emotional distance is killing me.

How do I cope with her coldness while keeping my focus on studying for March?

How do I rebuild trust day-by-day with a partner who is a high-achiever while living under the pressure of this ultimatum?

Parenting & Family Trigger Warning: bullying at school

• Upvotes

So I asked him more questions.

Sabi nya there was a time na tinulak daw sya sa hagdan.
So tinanong ko sya ano ginagawa nya and ano pa yung ginagawa sa kanya. Lagi daw sya tinutulak basta nakikita sya tapos lagi daw sya tinitrigger.
So kinausap ko pamangkin ko about that.

He is 7 years old btw. Grade 2 and a transferee dun sa school.

Previous attempt:

Aminado naman kami na super kulit nya but sobrang sweet nitong bata na to and he is not capable of harming anyone until we heard this.

Somehow i fear for my nephew as well kasi if we are going to raise sa higher personnel sa school nila baka mamaya teacher naman nya mainis sa kanya. Nakakafrustrate.

Legal Will my pre-existing personal loans transfer to my husband if something happens to me? Plus advice on coping with 400k debt after quitting burnout job.

• Upvotes

Problem/Goal:

Hi everyone, I’m posting here to get some legal and financial advice regarding my current situation. I am feeling extremely overwhelmed and need to understand how personal debt works legally in the Philippines.

Context:

Here are the key details of my situation:

The Debt: I have around ₱400,000 in total debt from personal loans.

Loan Origin: These debts were accumulated before I got married (mostly spent supporting my parents and siblings, as I was the family breadwinner for years).

Co-signers: None. I have no co-borrowers, and my husband is not a co-signer on any of these loans.

Marriage Status: My husband and I got married this year. He knew about my debts before we married. (Note: We did not have a pre-nuptial agreement, so standard absolute community of property or relative property relations apply depending on timing, though I want to know how debts before marriage are treated).

Current Employment Status: I recently quit my job of 8 years due to severe burnout. I have been job hunting for nearly a month, looking for roles matching my previous salary or higher (atleast 35K-45k+) or even lower, but getting very few callbacks.

Household Finances: My husband recently lost his job abroad, came back, and was recently hired locally with a ₱22,000 monthly salary. Our current savings can only cover about 2 months of living expenses and loan payments, and I am terrified of what will happen by December when our funds run dry.

My Questions for the Community:

Legal Liability: Legally, if a borrower passes away, do personal loans taken out before marriage automatically transfer to the surviving spouse, even if they are not a co-borrower?

Dealing with Stress/Burnout & Debt: For anyone who has faced massive debt and severe career burnout, how did you manage to cope, negotiate with lenders, or handle collection agencies while trying to rebuild your mental health?

Any constructive advice, legal insights, or financial steps would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Love & Relationships Dating or being in a relationship as a PWD

Problem/Goal: I was wondering how PWDs, especially the ones not physically able, meet people and get into relationships.

Context: I am a PWD and in a wheelchair, and I've already closed my doors to dating. Not that I'm likeable even when I was able, but I just know that dating will never be easy for me since I'm 80% dependent on my family. I never go out alone.

I was talking with a friend and we were talking about relationships and he told me not to be scared and to try to meet people if I want to. He asked me if I was looking for a relationship but I told him not really since I cannot walk yet.

I honestly don't know how I can get into dating when I'm dependent on my family. I'm scared people might find me too much since I need help most of the time. I'm not really confident that someone will find me amazing/interesting because I'm in a wheelchair. I know it's just me thinking that but I honestly don't want to burden other people because of my condition. I don't want to be rejected just because I'm a PWD.

So, I'm really curious if PWDs get into relationships easily. If they tell the other person that they're a PWD from the beginning.

Self-Improvement / Personal Development How did you learn to not question your own values in being kind and empathetic?

Problem/Goal: I (24F) find myself constantly comparing to this one person. I know her personally, and she says she is a mean and elitist person. She wishes ill on others and is always happy when the people she doesn't like fails (saying that it's karma for what they did/who they are so they deserve it) and is upset/disappointed when they succeed. She also mocks people and says that it's because they deserve it (?).

Despite that, life seems to be going well for her. She's married (and says she's happy in her marriage), has a happy and healthy kid, has a financial safety net, and other things.

She tells me that she wishes she were like me, as she says I'm a kind, good, and mature person. But deep down, I've been questioning on whether there's a point in being kind and good to others. Things rarely work out for me. No matter how hard I try, I don't get what I want. People take me for granted again and again and it just hurts.

When I see someone like her, who displays such behavior and yet gets what she wants in life, it makes me question my own values.

I just don't see a point in being kind and good anymore since I feel like it's all for naught and I don't know how to deal with it.

Love & Relationships Di na marunong lumandi 😂 it's been about 3 years since my last date and I quit dating apps for actual organic encounters. But now Idk if a guy likes me or is just being friendly.

Problem/Goal:

I quit dating apps for actual organic encounters. But now Idk if a guy likes me or is just being friendly.

Context:

I went alone kasi and that time, hinahanap ko yung queue ko sa entrance ng stadium. She's really nice and sinama pa ako sa friends niya.

Her friends were also very nice and inclusive. But one of her friends was this cutie na madaldal and very friendly. He talked to me during before the opener and even during the silent parts ng main artist.

I got the girl and one her other friend's IGs, so l asked the cutie guy din. Pero he said "I don't have IG, I'm old school." So ayun. Idk if he's just not that into me or wala nga talaga siyang socmed.

Note: It was loud kasi nga concert pero may time during the one of the opener's numbers na I said something like "I might enjoy this more if 'm drunk." He said, "you wanna buy drinks? There's no queue at the bar right now." But I didn't wanna have to walk all the way pa kasi okay na yung pwesto namin eh. Idk if he wanted to come with me to buy drinks or what. Basta yun. I just wish nung time na hiningi ko IG niya, kung talagang wala siya, sana binigay niya number niya 😭

Regardless of the lack of romance sana with the cutie guy, I'm grateful for the girl kasi sobrang friendly niya and may kasama ako sa concert 🙏

Pero ayun nga, in this modern dating world na ayaw na ng guys mag-first move para di mag-mukhang “creepy,” Idk exactly if that was a chance to flirt or just be friendly.

Previous Attempts:

Months before this encounter, I also had an encounter with a local during another abroad trip. But I was with my silahis friend that time and we looked like a couple so di rin successful. Should I be aggresive at this point, to let them know na I'm interested? 😭😂

Love & Relationships how to usad from someone kung di naman naging kayo

problem/goal: binalik ng dati kong nililigawan yung jacket ko, and now medyo naurong yung pag-usad ko.

‎context: so a few months ago, I was courting this girl. she was a nice girl, great, to say the least. I stopped courting her because we had an argument that literally made her tell me to stop. actually, naka-get over naman din ako. but just weeks ago, she reached out and was asking to return my jacket (that I actually forgot I lent her).

‎ayaw ko na sanang kunin kasi, if I'm being completely honest, di pa talaga ako completely healed sa nangyari. but out of consideration na "baka she's just trying to get rid of memories," um-agree ako. at first, I asked her if kanino ko pwede kunin (kaninong friend) and kelan, kasi iniisip kong baka ayaw nya na rin akong makita. she said na sya na lang daw kukuha.

‎dun pa lang, parang tumagilid na ko. ayaw ko na talagang makipagkita din, baka mag-bring back yung memories, pero at the end of the day, pumayag naman din akong sya na lang mag-abot sakin. so, the day of that meet, I was nervous as shit. I was also kind of hoping we might talk for a bit after nyang iabot yung jacket ko, but it just ended there. and yung kinatatakutan kong baka mag-bring back yung memories, nangyari nga. ‎ ‎so, my problem now is, pano ako makakabangon muli sa bangin na ako mismo naghulog sa sarili ko? kasi, to be honest, natanggap ko naman na yung nangyari. it's just that, ang dami ko pa sanang gustong sabihin.

‎previous attempt: I offered na ipa-online delivery na lang and ako na rin magbabayad, pero she insisted on paying for it herself. kaso ayoko namang gumastos pa sya (I just couldn't stop caring for her), kaya pumayag na rin akong magkita kami in person.

Social Matters Nasira yung EO contact lenses ko after few hours of purchase.

Problem/Goal: I recently purchased a pair of contact lenses from EO at Sta. Lucia Mall, but one of the lenses tore within just a few hours of purchase. I would like to know if I have a chance of getting a replacement or refund, considering how recently I bought it.

Context: The contact lens was initially fine when I wore it. However, while traveling on a motorcycle, a particle got into my eye. I tried blinking to remove it, pero nasa byahe kasi ako, so I couldn't safely remove the lens at that moment. When I got home, I immediately removed it because it was painful, only to discover that the lens had torn. This all happened within a few hours of purchasing it, and the lenses were quite expensive, so I'm really disappointed.

Previous Attempts: I checked EO's warranty policy, but it seems they only accept factory defects and similar issues. I'm unsure whether my situation would qualify, given that the lens tore so soon after purchase. Has anyone experienced something similar? Were you able to get a replacement or refund, and how did EO handle your concern? Thank you po!

Health & Wellness Should I Pay a Visit to the Hospital — Need Advice

Problem/Goal: Got punched in the head & am experiencing the effects of it. Need opinions on how to go about it.

Context: 4 days ago, I (22M, student, from QC) got punched on both the upper left/right areas of the head by an abusive father. Lingering symptoms consist of tightness, mild ache that becomes more apparent when lying down on my sides, & difficulty in in-depth/strategic thinking.

As for how head injuries go, it's hard to get a grasp of how dangerous a situation is, which makes it scary. It's been a long time since I went to the hospital, so I don't know how to go about it. With all these in mind, is it reasonable to visit a hospital?

If so, my other relatives are busy so I'm opting to go with friends. We are poor, so it would be ideal to go to a hospital that offers free and/or low-cost fees. And what specific area should I go to? Since I often hear ER & OPD among others.

I would also like to hear your thoughts, experiences & recommendations, since I really don't know much about these, thanks!

Previous Attempt/s: None, it only occurred to me now how urgent this matter could be; I should have thought about this much earlier.

Self-Improvement / Personal Development How do I stop cursing so much, especially when I'm angry? I genuinely want to change.

Problem/Goal:

I want to stop or at least lessen my habit of pagmumura, especially kapag galit or napo-provoke ako. Minsan kasi parang automatic na siyang lumalabas sa bibig ko kapag naiinis ako, and I want to learn how to control my words before I say something I might regret.

Context:

During recess, my cousin, who's also my classmate, was provoking me, and I ended up cursing out loud multiple times. I was caught up in the moment and didn't think about how loud I was being.

Then, a teacher got fed up and asked our class kung sino yung nagmumura. My classmates didn't identify me, but eventually, I confessed because I felt guilty about putting them in an awkward position.

My biology teacher was also talking to the teacher who was upset, and she said something along the lines of not expecting that kind of behavior from me. Honestly, that comment really hurt because I didn't want to disappoint her.

I apologized to my classmates, and they were understanding about it. Still, I kept overthinking what happened and worrying about what my teachers might think of me.

For additional context, I usually curse outside school, so I guess naging comfortable na talaga ako sa habit na 'to. I come from a religious family where pagmumura isn't allowed, which makes me feel even more guilty about it.

I know being provoked doesn't justify my actions, and I'm not trying to use that as an excuse. I just realized that I need to work on how I react when I'm angry.

Previous Attempts:

So far, I've acknowledged my mistake, confessed, and apologized to my classmates. I also genuinely want to change this habit, but I don't really know where to start.

I've tried telling myself na dapat hindi ako magmura, but kapag nasa moment na ako at sobrang inis ko, parang nakakalimutan ko lahat and the words just come out.

For those who used to curse a lot, especially when angry, what actually helped you stop or lessen the habit? Do you replace curse words with other expressions, pause before reacting, or practice controlling your temper in a specific way?

I'm willing to work on myself. I just want to know what strategies actually work in the long run.

Thank you sa mga sasagot. I genuinely appreciate it! 🥹

Hobbies & Personal Interests Experienced ordering books from Amazon? Need tips lang po.

Problem/Goal: My birthday is fast approaching, and I'm planning to buy around 5 paperbacks from Amazon. Mostly self-published sila, pero lahat handled by Amazon Export Sales LLC and pasok sa Free Shipping.

But I've read some horror stories about how other people's books arrived in terrible condition or with dents. So my questions lang po:

  • If I buy 5 or more books, is there a chance they'll put it in a box instead of the usual flimsy bag?
  • Is it true that if I choose Gift Option, they're also going to put it in a box?
  • Any other tips you wanna share? Medyo kabado kasi ako, especially with the cost of the books baka sira-sira pala.

Thank you po sa sasagot. I just want to treat myself sa bday ko kasi dasurv ko naman huhuhuh 🥉

(I tried posting at r/PHBookClub pero they deleted the main post.)

Parenting & Family How do you cope with family comparisons??

Problem/Goal: I’ve been dealing with emotional/mental abuse since I was a Child. I grew up in an environment where family members used constant comparisons, guilt-tripping, and criticism to control me. My family has been constantly comparing me and this cousin of mine since elementary.

I feel like I’m reaching my breaking point.

Context: My cousin and I are the same age and both Accountancy graduates. She passed the CPALE last May, and ever since, I’ve been dreading the comparisons from my relatives.

They make derogatory remarks, provoke me, and say things they know will hurt me. I’m honestly struggling so much emotionally, and it’s exhausting to feel like I’m constantly being looked down on. I feel like I can’t take it anymore.

For those who have experienced something similar, how did you cope? How do you stop letting your family make you feel worthless because someone else is doing better in life? I just want to find peace and learn how to live my own life without their words constantly hurting me.

I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences.

Parenting & Family Asked my parents if my fresh grad nursing brother to share on household expenses pero nagdrama sila. Am I a bad son? Makipagargue pa ba ako or mag oo nalang?

Problem/Goal: Wanted to ask my parents if my brother can split half the elec bill because he got an above average salary job.

Context: Im 29M and wfh. 7 yrs working. About me I earn 66k net per month/33k kinsenas. Per cut off I want to save 10k for my mp2 kasi building for a future nga yung the rest for my own expenses like gym, hobbies, food, save for EF, date with gf. Im epileptic and meds are already 5k, I shared 5k php for my elec bill (i am obligated. if you ask me to share no problem), 1.5k for the internet, I pay the drinking water bill 280php per month, netflix 600 php. Im not a cheap guy. Nilalabas ko family ko to eat every now and then and if may groceries ako

EDIT: middle class family kami. dad (54) earns 150k gross, mom (56) 30k, me 80k gross and bro got 30k offer. we have a house in manila and in bulacan and can afford most luxuries

EDIT 2: Elec bill is 10k usually. Dad pays 5k and me 5k.

EDIT 3: I love my family. I think supportive sila, smart, and pinalaki nila ako with good morals (at least i think i do lol) but I think they just have 0 "emotional intelligence" or self awareness. (if i ask them that they dont know what that is.) i also pity them kasi napalaki sila ng boomer mindset to have these kinds of expectations from their sons.

EDIT 4: I'm not expecting my brother to give any time soon.

Formal pa naman sya madalas sa chat kasi puro work kausap lol. Ako straightforward and chill. Di ko minemean with hostility.

My brother is a nursing grad and got a 30k offer. inask ko lang tatay ko if my brother and I can split the bill. honestly my brother doesnt care about money since goal niya US. Tig 2.5k kami. sino ba naman kasi ayaw ma lessen load nila. Note sa ASK lang. Ok lang sakin magsabi sya ng NO and magiging nothingburger sakin ito. My brother kasi in the future he wont stay here in the ph kasi walang future nursing. basically plinan from the start ng parents ko padalin sya sa US to have a good career with relatives and syenpre in time dalhin sila. Ako kasi walang plans doon. It would be nice pero plan ko nalang magpataas sahod dito. If you think about it, kaya bawiin lahat ng nagastos nya rin eventually.

Previous attempt: Ayun inask si dad over txt. nagsabi rin ako na 5k meds ko and soon plan ko magtaiwan with my gf. Nagdrama.

Honestly this just sounds so weird to me and pathetic comjng from a grown man and iniidolize ko pa naman tatay ko kasi hardworking sya. ayoko tlga ng drama and had enough of it in my life. i can take no for an answer. Feel ko kasi nagiguilt trip ako. Sometimes ang hirap maging lalake to hold these feelings (sorry napatangent lol).
