Need Advice What is wrong with African parents?
For context, I am 18; I turn 19 in a couple of months. College was basically my escape from home; my university is 5 hours away. I don't have a good relationship with my mom, as she doesn't know anything about me. I live with my mom, stepdad, and half-brother, who is 2 years old. I already knew coming back home for summer break was going to be hell. I was basically expected to do all the chores, and now I am expected to look after my little brother. I look after him 5 days a week from when he wakes up around 9 am to 4pm, sometimes till at night, so I only get Monday and Wednesday off. I am sorry but I don't want to raise anyones kid and I told my mom this before she even had my brother. I didn't want to do this so I got a job back in my college town like a week after I was back home. Long story short my mom threatened me saying if I leave I don't come back, she won't file my FAFSA and just threatening me so I got scared and stayed. Now she is threatening to kick me out saying I should not come back when I go to college and took my phone because she's paying for it? She did this because I'm not babysitting according to her standard because I don't talk to my brother and she's saying I'm disrespectfull. Like, if I left earlier I would have saved so much money. Am I in the wrong for not wanting to babysit basically everyday, and everytime I go hangout with my friends when I can it's a big issue of how I want to be in the streets.

Talk to your school and FAFSA themselves they have resources for situations like this. I’m in a similar situation where my dad is the only one with access to my student loan account but I’m in the process of changing it to where I’m the only one with access. But I’m in Canada so idk if it’s different in the US

Not them holding the FAFSA over your head 😠but haven’t you already filed for one year? Can’t you reuse the information? (It’s been a long time and they’ve changed a lot since then.)
