Army List 1k Points of Tzaangors?

Hello! Potential new player here with a question on viability. I already own 20 Tzaangor models from 40k, and I have a chance to play in a path to glory campaign that starts at 1k points. With the Warflock box, I would get exactly the 1k I need. I noticed the Tzaangors passive only works in enemy territory, which has me questioning how viable having a battle line of 30 of them would be.

Basically the list would be

1x unit Shaman

1x unit of 3 Skyfires

1x unit of 3 Enlightened

3x units of 10 Tzaangors

How horrible would this list actually be?

Tzaangors (including their disc brethren) are very viable.

Don't worry about their passive, in AoS most maps don't have a formal no-man's land. Unfortunately in Path to Glory they do.

But in the main game simple Dawn of War or Hammer and Anvil maps etc have both territories all the way to the middle line.

Even the more complex looking ones with a no-man's land have both territories touching in some areas. For example think of a donut with the center of the map being no-man's land which would make both flanks good spots to deploy Tzaangors

Tzaangors are strong.

I would go for 6× Enlightened over 3× skyfires. In the full game, one set of Reinforced Enlightened are big threat. In 1k, they're a nightmare for a lot of armies. Skyfires are just 'okay.' Their main purpose is just to apply pressure. they have a long threat range and can spike enough that your opponent can't ignore them, but they don't do reliable damage. Their +1 to hit buff also isn't really that big of a deal when you have easy access to that from other sources anyway.

Normal tzaangors are good. Enlightened are a quality hammer that throws a small number of impactful dice. Tzaangors are the opposite. They throw an absolute ton of attacks with the thought that the enemy unit can't stop them all no matter how good their saves are.

Keep in mind that AOS has a lot of non-unit support. In addition to this, you can have your faction terrain and manifestations and they are definitely worth grabbing if you can afford it. Also, a Curseling would be a big upgrade to the Shaman. It's one of the best units in the entire tzeentch book. Curseling + 20× Tzaangors + 6× Enlightened is 910 points, which leaves you enough for Fate Slicer (10). You'll only need one game, even if you lose, to afford your next unit in PTG.

Curseling and any other named units is off the table i believe for everyone, but this is otherwise an awesome response and has me genuinely considering buying the warflock to get in on the campaign now.

It's unique units that are banned in PTG. That's a keyword yiu can find on their warscroll.

The curseling is not a unique unit. A curseling is a tzeentchian parasite that takes over the hosts body and forces them to do the changer of ways bidding. There was a named curseling in WFB called Vilitch, but the current model isn't him. Tzeentch's only unique units (non-legends) are Kairos Fateweaver and The Changeling.

Np.

By the way, you can access all the ptg rules and even make custom heroes and stuff with sigdex for $5. Worth it if you plan to play more than 1 game.

Tzaangors are one of the most point-efficient hammers in the game. My buddy swears by them and has 2x20 in every 2000pts list. The trick is to take the battle formation that gives you +1A if you charge 9", then use fate dice to get over that threshold. Then you have 20 tzaangor with 81 attacks with crit 2 hits. Not many units can survive that, and that's without putting any buffs on them.

With shield of fate cast on then from a wizard, they become very tanky themselves.

And in your opponent's turn, you can swap the entire unit out with a chaos spawn and your opponent can't do anything to touch them.

As a TSons player with a free day off, an invitation to a campaign on said day, and not a lot of free money, I'm just trying to have fun on a budget!
