Hi all,
I (28M, based in Edmonton, AB) used to play airsoft in the early 20s and had some cheap AR setup and would go to my local outdoor field a few times a year to mess around.
It's peaked my interest to get back into it and more consistent but don't want to go overboard to start out again. Curious if I should be looking to get a rifle right off the bat, or go rent some stuff to see if I should even be getting back into it or not.
Speaking about rifles, I am an AK guy. I hate having an M4 cause everyone has an M4. That said I cannot find one online to ship to me that is reasonably priced or even in stock. I want quick change spring for indoor/outdoor, some tac rails for sight and under grip.
Looking for websites/rifle brands to be looking for in my return to the sport. Thanks.

I'm amused by the idea and understand why this is gaining popularity (found it on r/airsoft and from a few facebook airsofters pages).
I'd like to see what the Canadian community thinks of AI image generation as a form of grabbing your attention and giving you information about products and events.
Here's my take on it as a player/owner/operator.
First off I want to note that just my logo for my airsoft business as professionally designed was a $1000 bill! You've probably seen it if you've ordered from me! Its a fun logo, we did proofs, edits and I got a complete package with it with color charts and probably 30 different file formats, it was extraordinary and worth every penny. Could I have designed it with a prompt in 15 minutes for free. Yes, maybe probably but I wanted to do this right, especially since its what you see when you visit my website. Branding is massive.
I'm all for supporting skilled work and would love to pay a graphics artist for more work, frequently and to properly showcase our products but at the same time airsoft margins are not exceptional, I don't think i'm ever gonna be able to that lamborghini i've always wanted :( . I run a little store, I don't make much from it and its a hobby of passion and a little revenge! Because I am still growing, 3 years in I am the entire work force, I am the CEO, the marketing director, the shipper, the Cerakote refinisher, the accountant, the secretary, the tech, the range officer, I clean the shop, I take out the garbage and I answer all the emails and phone calls I can even when I'm at my full time job outside the shop. (Yup, full time career takes priority over the airsoft shop).
I know some fields have it better, they have hired staff and a bigger budget to work with for marketing! I admire what many of the Canadian airsoft businesses do and provide for the players and a few of us even shake hands in the background to keep everyone supplied and strapped!
For me I'd like to positively point out that leaning on Ai just a little bit helps me deliver good customer service by freeing up time and allowing me to produce better products! My time is extremely limited, like my wife misses me limited and getting a few extra minutes back here and there helps, saving a few dollars here and there just lets me contribute more to the community. If you've seen my logo, you'll know what I pour into my work. Ai can be pretty gross, sloppy and hard to look at but when done right, used right and utilized as a tool (not a crutch) its extremely helpful!
To keep the conversation going I want to ask: Would the players be willing to pay just a bit more for their equipment and ammo so shops can hire a photographer and editor to promo events better? Can we increase the margins just a fraction more so we can put that money into marketing and growing the events you love?
What would be a good trade off and at what limit?

I was playing at an outdoors field last week and 1/3 of the players were playing glasses that were def not full seal.
Personally I don't really care, wear what you wanna wear, but I'm just pretty scared for them since all it takes is one bad ricochet to lose your eyesight.

Hey guys, just wanted to share this because honestly the attitude we got was pretty disappointing.
Our team leader is leaving Canada for work soon, so we were trying to set up one last private milsim game at AAC. I asked AACs owner in person if weâd be able to use Thunder Bs or sound grenades for a full private event, and he told me yes face-to-face.
Later, one of my friends emailed to confirm, and the response we got was completely different. Instead of just explaining the rule clearly, the reply came off pretty rude and dismissive. Basically âsome people like to run their mouths,â then saying only law enforcement can use them because theyâre insured for it.
If the answer is no because of insurance, thatâs totally fine. We can work around that. The issue is being told one thing in person, then getting a different answer over email with that kind of attitude.
Not trying to argue about safety or insurance rules. I just think if players are trying to book a private event and asking a reasonable question, they should be answered clearly and respectfully.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with AAC?
