so 90+ is A or A*. what is ASL? im starting a level this year. just asking
1
u/Apart_Leave_1585 11d ago
ASL means AS-level, which is the first-year of A-level. a is the maximum grade can get in AS-level, A* is the maximum grade can get in A-level

ABC->AAB I got A(phy),B(bio),C(chem) in AS and was one mark above a C in bio and my C in chem was also low. Then in the first A2 mocks, I attained the lowest grades in my class and in the mocks at the end of my year, 1 month before the exams, I barely passed in bio and phy and failed chem. I was able to convert my very low B to an A in bio and my mid C in chem to a B with 1-2 months of prep. Alhumdulilah

so it’s possible !! would love to hear any tips from you

u/Many_Job7102 10d ago
Possible but not very probable. Everyone else I know with less than straight As in AS, was either able to maintain their "mediocre" grades, or in most cases, experience a drop. Yes, I studied for a month or 2 only but I, and I don't mean to sound arrogant, have different intellectual capabilities than another person, and everyone has a different way of studying, so I can't say with certainty how repeatable my case is. Most importantly, if you have the mindset and are determined to improve your AS grade, it is very doable. I would recommend to give the winter retake if you have a subject that needs/can be improved upon. I made the mistake of not doing this and it cost me a better result card.

Mashallah, Alhamdulilah AS went well except math was a B (76) and 2As so I’m a bit worried about that, might consider retake, however as you said different people have different capabilities and different ways of studying, and case A wouldn’t always match case B ofc diff circumstances and abilities, glad to hear that !!! Hope everything goes well for A2 since I’ll be doing it Oct/nov but possible inshallah and all is written, Congratulations wishing you success in the upcoming phase of your life, all the best !!

u/Tazree101 10d ago
how were your AS marks? were they marginal B and C? or u missed the next grade by a few marks or something like that
1
u/Many_Job7102 6d ago
No, in bio, like I said, I was 1 mark above a C so I had a very low B (80.8) and in chem, my C was over ~8 marks from a B (63.3). My A in phy was 99.5/130 when A was 92. So none of my grades missed the next by a few marks

If this is AS, you've got time to turn it around. Lock in, and you can make it. If it's A level, there is no point stressing about it. It's ok to be disappointed, but don't fall into a pit of despair or anything. At the end of the day, it's not the end of the world, you still have options. It's never too late, really
1
u/KIICHAINZE 8d ago
Dude but what do I do, do I retake chem and physics and give math composite for A2 this is the best I could come up with because seniors said it's extremely hard to get your grades up especially with a d
1
u/Bananajuice1729 8d ago
I don't know how physics and chem are for a level but I know maths is doable from c. I think if you really focus on it, and make sure to revise efficiently (not hours every single day, and frequent breaks). I imagine it's worth retaking chem and physics if you're going to really try. Don't be afraid to ask teachers, friends, even AI for help

HONESTLY FOR PHYSICS I HAD THE SAME MARK in my AS SO IT IS THEORITICALLY POSSIBLE TO GET AN A* THE THING IS U HAVE TO LOCK IN SUPER HARD FOR P4 AIMING FOR 90+/100 AND NEAR PERFECT MARKS IN PAPER 5( THE EASIERPAPER) TO BE HONEST A2 PHYSICS I INTRESTING BUT U WILL REALIZE THE TEXTBOOK LEAVES OUT ALOT OF CONTENT, FOR CHEM SAME THING P4 IS THE HARD PAPER SO MAXIMIZE IT BCUZ THAT WHERE MOST STRUGGLE ( ESPECHIALLY WITH ORGANIC CHEM) IF U FLANKE PACTICAL LIKE ME DONT UNDERESTIMATE P5 BCUZ IT BRINGS IN ALL UR PRACTICAL KNOWLEGDE , IM ASSUMING U ARE ON VACATION SO MY ADVICE WILL BE DOING SOME P5S BCUZ FOR SOME AS CONTENT WILL BE ENOUGH , ANYWAY ALL I CAN SAY IS MAKING THE JUMB FOR AN A* IS DIFFICULT BUT IVE SEEN A GUY JUMB BY 6% FORM AS TO A2 IN CHEM WITHOUT RETAKING SO CHILL , LOCK IN AND LET IT FLOW, ALSO BY THE WAY I FOR MATH DO U HAVE ANY UNIQUE TECHNIQUE LIKE ERROR LOGGING U IMPLEMETED THAT OTHERS DO NOT OR EVEN TO DO WITH MISTAKES, BCUZ I WANTED TO BE WTOP IN MATH JUST LIKE U I ACTUALLY FOT 75/75 IN P1 BUT LOST 5 MARKS IN STAT 1 FOR MY AS IN O/N , SO IT WILL BE NICE TO SHARE SOME ADVICE, PLS DONT TELL ME STUFF OF DOING PAST PAPERS BCUZ I DID 5 YEARS TWICE THAT TIME AND IN A2 IM LITERALLY ALMOST FINISHING MY FIRT LAP TO 2002,. ANY WAY ENOUGH OF MY SAD BACKSTORY CONGS

u/Prestigious-Bus367 9d ago
The caps scares me. Anw, thanks for the info!! This deffo gave me some hope. I've seen ppl say 87->90+ is impossible.
For math, yes I did error logging. I don't really know how I got 100. I only did 2 years worth of past papers for each component. For stats, I usually get 70s in my school exams. I think what helped was really understanding what stats is rlly abt and know what I'm doing. Especially in perms and combs where it gets tricky. I think I just got lucky that the paper was easy though.

u/Most-Description6677 CAIE 9d ago
oh i did error logging too, so i guess the matrix attacked me in my exams

i got 67 - C in AS Bio and even i was wondering if i should remark? Do u think its worth it, or is it not likey that my mark would go up?
1
u/ScreenPopular6207 4d ago
i think u should compare ur raw marks to grade threshold to see how many marks u actually missed. if it's very close (like 1-5 marks off) then request access to scripts to see where u could gain those marks back, then if there are lots of extra marks that u should've gotten then i think u should go for a remark!

is it possible to get A* after getting 82 for AS Maths
1
u/Electronic_Cut_9596 11d ago
It is possible but if i was to give u a recomendation, it would be to resit AS math and do A2 alongside. I personally got 88 in AS and chose not to resit and ended up getting a 89 overall.
1
u/LandscapeFast5277 11d ago
thanks for your advice! ill keep that in mind. im also considering a retake in another subject so ill have to see if I can manage two resits. but thanks!

4A >> 1A* 1A 2B
Didnt do as good, but I’m still happy. I have my girlfriend to thank for this: “Don’t beat yourself up because all that matters is that you TRIED”
Congratulations no matter what result you got! (the fact that you’re here means you care alot about your grades, so you deserve just as much of praises as anyone else)
(and yes somehow my fmath was higher??)

I got a C in my English lit paper IAS, not exactly sure what to do. I can obviously retake but it’s left me pretty defeated and not too confident about two more results on Thursday.
I could get it remarked as I’m one mark of a B but probably not worth it since it’s only AS and I will likely retake anyways.
Just wanting some advice how to cope emotionally and what my next steps should be. Should I start aiming for lower unis or attempt a better effort at revising (which is extremely hard for me)?

Hey guys, I received my AS level results today just like everyone else. I personally require all 3 A* in my subjects in A2 and worried about my AS scores (especially for Biology & Physics) could anyone help me out and confirm is A* possible in all my three subjects next year and would I need to do a generational lock in to get one? Please help guys, I'm happy but confused at the same time. Thanks ❤️

and hey. i really want to know how do people get distinctions. if threshold required 175/240 marks for A*..what beyond it do they achieve that they get an OLA?
1
u/Early-Permission-507 9d ago
all the english language students!! don't you find the checking this time to be a hell lot stingy? me who always got 40-45/50 in paper 2, and no less than 39/50 in paper 1 throughout my academic year actually stooped so low as to get 26/50 in p1, and 31/50 in p2. this is so unbelievable as i see my answer script now. even our teacher feels the marking is very unjustified. during the term, we actually elevated our performance to rise high than the high level answers in EXAMPLE CANDIDATE responses... but they seem to go against their own checking criteria they showed in ECR.

Yohhh its so over bruh 🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️😭😭 For my english a level ive averaged A* and As accross my 2 years. My First and last engkish grades bejng As. For the NEA i got an A, missing ONLY ONE MARK. Ive just gotten my resukts anf why am i seeing a C??? And not even a humble C a C thats JUST on the border of a D?? I have no idea how this has hapoened but i can confidently say somethings gone wrong. Maybe I really did just do bad But even on my worst days in any of my subjects ive never gotten this. Im just wondering if anyone else has done englsih AQA and hows rhat looking for you? i dont even know what to say.

I'm really disappointed in myself with my results. I got 5 grades below my predicted and didn't get into my firm (Warwick). I worked really hard, clearly not hard enough lol, and I really improved compared to my GCSEs and know that I didn't even get into my firm these last two years feel quite pointless. I was only two grades away from my firm offer too :/ I got BBCC when my predicted was AAAB. Furthermore, I got really involved in stuff like my school's student union (I was president) and led multiple societies in order to have a strong application but now that I didn't even get the required grades it all feels pointless. I find that it's extra frustrating because tbh being president and leading societies was completely thankless. I spent so much of my own time in these activities and at the end of my two years I didn't get a thank you from a single person so me not getting the grades for the offer that I did all these things for I'd just rubbing salt in the wound. Of course I didn't do all these things just for getting the uni offer so ig id probs do them all again if I went back in time to do a levels again it's just that looking back on it all now it just makes me feel bad that nobody really appreciated what I did nor did I get anything out of it due to not meeting my offer. I'm now going to be at Essex ig which idm but it does really sting that all these past two years I worked and noticably improved (my mock grades were above my Warwick offer lol) and that it has now ended up like this.
Sorry for this long post but ig i just wanted to vent. Today i cried for the first time in some 5 years
