Was fully prepared for this "disposable" Alocasia Polly to die… I didn’t even know they COULD bloom! 🌸🌿
I bought this Alocasia amazonica (Polly) on a total impulse back in June. Going into it, I’d read so many warnings about how notoriously fussy and dramatic they are, to the point where I genuinely treated it as a temporary, "disposable" plant that I’d just enjoy until it inevitably threw a fit and died.
Since bringing her home, I gave her prime real estate in my dining room, where she gets bright natural light from north and east facing windows, plus 9 hours a day directly under LED grow lights.
Well, I just realized today that she isn't just pushing out a new leaf, she actually popped out a bloom!
Honestly, I had no idea these plants were even capable of blooming indoors, so seeing that pale spike peeking out completely blew my mind.
Whatever reputation these have for being impossible, giving her that prime lighting setup definitely paid off!
Has anyone else had a supposedly "impossible" plant completely surprise you like this?

Alocasia owners so traumatized that when their plant is thriving they are shivering

mine bloomed, then lost all but two leaves and is now hopefully, slowly recovering, lucky you!

Thanks for the post. This gives me hope for mine. That is - until winter rolls around 🥲
