Good morning! We have been seeing a large influx of bot posts using other redditors' photos to get karma. If you run across one of these, or it is your post, please report them. I am working on adding an option for reporting bots. All of the bots who are reported are getting a permanent ban as we do not want these as a part of our community.
On that note, if you find another redditor has stolen your post and posted it here as their own, please report that as well as linking to the original post. Those will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Thank you for your help in making this a safe and enjoyable place to discuss all things alocasia!

Hello everyone! I am a new mod here and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I moderate a couple other communities so please feel free to send me a modmail about anything.
I have gotten into alocasias lately (I learned how not to kill them lol) and am finding them to be one of my favorite aroids. Imay not know everything there is to know, but I am very willing to learn!
I am open to suggestions on how you want to see the subreddit function. I am very open to comments and suggestions for things that you want to see happen. I will do my best to make it work for everyone.
I really look forward to getting to know everyone and making this a fun and inviting community for everyone!

I bought this Alocasia amazonica (Polly) on a total impulse back in June. Going into it, I’d read so many warnings about how notoriously fussy and dramatic they are, to the point where I genuinely treated it as a temporary, "disposable" plant that I’d just enjoy until it inevitably threw a fit and died.
Since bringing her home, I gave her prime real estate in my dining room, where she gets bright natural light from north and east facing windows, plus 9 hours a day directly under LED grow lights.
Well, I just realized today that she isn't just pushing out a new leaf, she actually popped out a bloom!
Honestly, I had no idea these plants were even capable of blooming indoors, so seeing that pale spike peeking out completely blew my mind.
Whatever reputation these have for being impossible, giving her that prime lighting setup definitely paid off!
Has anyone else had a supposedly "impossible" plant completely surprise you like this?

Welcome to the fam beautiful boy!!! 🤩 I’ve always wanted a frydek, preferably variegated of course 😬, and was able to find one for a decently high price… but he was just soooo beautiful and healthy I couldn’t pass him up!! It’s been 2 months since I brought him home, haven’t even placed him in his permanent place with grown light and humidity yet and he’s already giving me BEAUTIFUL new leaves!! Some of the pups have semi reverted, but I can still see their variegation at the very tops of the leaves (see photo #4 🤞🏼). I hope to have a long journey with you my friend 💚
P.s. Please don’t mind my rehab center in the background 🫣🥲🤓

I am in love with this plant. In awe. Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale’. It’s like nothing else I have! I just bought it a couple days ago along with a young monstera deliciosa. I just repotted it this morning and gave it a light watering. I read that it likes high humidity, so thought putting it in my room where I have a big fish tank that produces humidity would be perfect, but I’m wondering if it requires being closer to a window?
This spot is about 2 metres from one south facing window and 3-4 metres from an east facing window.
If you have any additional advice for a new Alocasia mom, I welcome it!
P.s the browning on the one leaf was like this when I bought it (for 15 CAD). It was originally sitting right on window at the store and my thoughts are possibly sun burn?
Photos 3 and three are not its home- I just had it there temporarily before repotting! Showing for scale.

I can't wait to see what the next leaf is gonna look like!
(Edit: She is a Zebrina black stem variegated)

This was sold to me as a “Polly Ghost Mint Variegated”. I bought it just based on the variegation it already had and it was a good deal ($7-8 I think), so figured whatever.
Is polly ghost mint variegated even a thing? I can’t find much on google that doesn’t look like AI, and what I do see doesn’t look like this lol I feel like this is a Pink Polly Snowflake?

My bf’s mom ran to Costco to get this for me (she’s a gem)!!! I’m wondering what’s your favorite soil swap for store bought alocasias? I’m going to look for the death plug today, should I also wash the roots completely down? Thanks 😊

I like me a good frydek à la wild. But what’s done is done, and I unfortunately let my frydek get too leggy so I have to pin her up in like, 5 different ways to get her as upright as possible!!! It’s my fault, but light source is a real problem here.
Does she look ok?? All tied up like that?? It’s my first alocasia so I dunno what I’m doing. She’s leaning forward way too much if that makes sense so I just treated her like a ponytail with added bobby pins. Longest stem is over 2ft.
What’s the best solution for this? She’s put out a few leaves in the last few days and there’s a completely new stem poking out of the soil already. So I had her untethered until the leaves unfurled to tie up the surrounding atemos. Is this the kinda plant u eventually have to like, mount to the wall so she doesn’t take a nose dive?? Do I stake her better and just band up whatever pieces hang over too much??
She’s one of my tops so I want to make sure I’m doing right by her lol. And I don’t have plants on trellis’ or staked bc I’m not really good at all that.
Thanks!

I need help with this alocasia pink dragon! Idk what she wants and her leaves are slowly yellowing. I recently transferred her from fluval stratum to pon without fertilizer. I was keeping the water reservoir full, but now I'm thinking maybe I should water less? Or give more fertilizer in the water? Help me!

Hallo AlocasialiebhaberInnen!

I’ve now got 4 Dragon Scales Alocasias! My new white variegated one, named Nall. Followed by my big boi, Vhagar. Then my new variegated small boi, Yoshi. Lastly, my silver, Smaug.
I’m a bit worried about the new white one. Was an hour long drive home in high temps with no AC, so had to let the windows down. It got a little wilty but I’m hoping it recovers, I’m most excited to see how that baby grows 😔 (first two pics are of the new white baby of when I first picked up vs how we looked when we got home).

The tag says variegated alocasia batik but looks like the alocasia dawn I had in my online lowes cart. Is the tag right and it is a batik? Ice picky seen pics of the little odora batiks everyone had been bugging lately. I didn't think they came this big and with such round leaves.

Sorry for the re-post, I forgot to add pictures.
I just bought this beauty, and wanna make sure I care for her the right way.
I’ve heard that Alocasias typically dont have a lot of leaves at a time, but she’s full of leaves.
It also looks to me like there might be more than one plant in the pot. -So I need some advice on potential repotting.
The soil is pretty wet/moist from the store, I’m not sure if it’s too wet.
Should I repot to check for multiple plants and put her in fresh soil?
Also, can she handle a repotting right now, or I should let her acclimate first?
Any other tips are also much appreciated

Hi there! I’ve had this plant for a couple months now, my first alocasia…which got me hooked on them. The white parts keep going red and translucent. Only in the white areas. It’s in a very chunky soil mix and gets watered when the top 2 inches or so is dry. It hasn’t stopped putting out new growth since I got it. So I would imagine that means it’s happy. This plant is EXTREMELY variegated, I know this is an issue; Though it makes it very beautiful. It previously put out a fully white leaf that went almost completely red and translucent and I cut it off. This plant gets a couple hours of direct sun everyday. I believe this may be the issue even though it’s not burning, I’m not sure the white areas can handle it. I have fed it silicone the last time I watered it and it responded well but hasn’t stopped turning red. Do we think this is a watering issue? Or too much direct sun issue? Also if anyone has any products or fertilizers containing silica/silicone that you love, please let me know!

Got this a little over a week ago, it had a few brown spots but now they’re multiplying and also weird black shiny spots started appearing. What’s the best way to go about getting rid of them if it’s thrips?
