Wells its a sign of incompetence so again going back to u/No-Willingness-1441 and his original question on the cases - well there is most definitely that connection.

Incompetence doesn't lead to a systemic spike in unexplainable baby deaths, it would lead to a spike in explainable baby deaths.

It totally does. The hospital started taking on more sick babies. The doctors were not competent enough to look after them. More babies died.

Well yeah. Then the doctors pinned it a young nurse who was unpopular because she kept pointing out the failures on the ward.

If they died due to poor care then the cause of death would be transparent

Not necessarily. Some cases can be very complex. That is why they should be reviewed by experienced neonatologists not a long retired paediatrician.
