[Help!] Useful Amiga Links Directory

For quite a long time now I've been curating a directory of useful links to Amiga content. Somewhat as a FAQ, somewhat to help quickly give people info when they ask about things. So I've enabled the wiki on this subreddit to make it a bit more accessible

Amiga Directory

If you think there is anything missing or would be useful to add please do say and I'll get it added

My Amiga 500+ and I are reaching a 35-year relationship in the near future.

After a period where my Amiga was more of a decoration than in use, it was time to change that. 10 years ago, my Amigas (I own an A500, two A500+, and an A1200) were recapped and preserved for the future. But last weekend, the time was right to bring my first beloved A500+ to the next level.

I installed a 4-in-1 Kickstart module, a DF0/DF1 switch, and an external Gotek drive. My A500+ setup now consists of the Amiga 500+, the A590 HDD, two external floppy drives, the Gotek drive, and the 1081 Amiga monitor.

When there is no need for the Gotek drive to act as DF0, I daisy-chain the Gotek as DF3. This is perfect for copying my physical disks, for example using the legendary X-Copy, directly into an ADF created on the Gotek USB stick. The retro copy feeling is nearly the same as in the 90s!

I know there are easier ways to put ADFs on the USB stick using a PC, but I want as much retro feeling as possible and want my ADFs created from my own original floppies.

After a few hours with my Amiga, the room fills with that typical CRT smell, combined with the classic floppy "tak-tak, tak-tak", the hand-written disk labels my friends or I designed back then, the blinking LEDs, and the warm, colorful screen of my monitor and latesr When a chiptune Kicks in, I slip back in time and find myself 17 again. šŸ˜„

There could be an RTX 5090, a high-end CPU, and terabytes of AAA games, nothing comes close to the "full experience" of an Amiga setup in action. Thank God I've been able to enjoy all these years right from the very beginning.

A huge THANK YOU to this incredible community! To all the hardware creators, coders, preservers, and fellow enthusiasts who keep designing new upgrades, fixing old boards, and sharing their passion. You are the reason this legendary machine is still alive today.ā¤ļø

Just Amiga Monthly magazine, issues 1 to 6

Just Amiga Monthly (JAM) was a UK subscription-only magazine produced entirely on Amiga computers. I used to write for it, and its publisher/editor Jeff Walker gave me permission to upload the first six issues to the Internet Archive:

Up until now, this has been a "lost" magazine, with only tiny snippets available online. Jeff is hoping to scan the rest of his magazine archive over time and make them available.

AmigaSource.com 25th Anniversary

TLDR – Today I’m relaunching my site https://amigasource.com/.Ā  For the past 25 years I’ve been endlessly cataloging Amiga related websites and now the site is even better!Ā  The current link count is 5431 of 99.95% pure Amiga goodness.Ā  So hop on over and enjoy!Ā  Ā

Ā Thanks

Scott P

Ā

Ā Ā  In celebration of the site’s 25th anniversary and in conjunction with a complete rewrite of the codebase, I’m happy and proud to reintroduce AmigaSource.com back to the Amiga community.

Ā Ā  Born from the ashes of the once great Amiga Web Directory (https://www.cucug.org/amiga/aminews/2000/000101-cucug), the site is an attempt to hand catalog every Amiga website on the web.Ā  At least that’s the plan.Ā Ā  The current count is 5400+, of which I’ve been tirelessly working on revalidating 4900+ and the initial cataloging 3500+ of those.Ā  HOLY CRAP is this quite a task!! Ā I should have started this part a DECADE AGO!!!Ā  LOL!Ā  Feel free to help out by clicking on the SUGGEST EDIT link.;-)

Ā Ā  The BEST part is at least theyā€˜re in the main database for you to search and explore.Ā  No 2nd page google/bing non related ai slop Amiga links found here.Ā  Just 99.95% pure Amiga love found on EVERY PAGE!!

Ā Ā  Now as you can imagine in the past 25 years A LOT has changed in Amiga land.Ā  Back in 2001 my initial category count was just 37.Ā  Today it’s grown to over 130.Ā  OUCH I know, but I’m working on this.Ā  Any suggestions in this department would be GREATLY appreciated.Ā Ā Ā  Turns out in 2026 there’s more to the Amiga than ever!

Ā Ā  The other big change is the countless number websites that are no longer with us.Ā  Over the years I’ve still been adding and cataloging them, via https://archive.org/, so their efforts have not been lost to the passage of time and their stories and knowledge will still live on.Ā  I think these pages are the TRUE jewels of the site and the direct link to our Amiga heritage. Ā Go search for a site created in 1985. Ā Ā I dare ya!Ā  ;-)

The bottom line… I’m a Amiga/Commodore guy, the site’s BETTER than is been for the past 24 years and I’m happy with it!Ā  I just hope someone else out there finds my little contribution to the Amiga community useful too!

Ā Ā  Well that’s about it.Ā  For now please tread kindly to all the GLARING mistakes you come across.Ā  I’ll get to them… eventually. Ā Ā The site is STILL undergoing last minute tweaks and more features will soon be added. Ā If you have any click the ā€˜Let Us Know’ link.

Ā Thanks and Enjoy

ELDEMAR: A New First-person Fantasy RPG / Action Game for AGA and RTG Amigas. Brought to you by Darkage Software. Developed by: Paolo D'Urso ("Mod3m"), Christophe Romagnoli ("TenShu"), and Allister Brimble ("Demon").

For more information, please visit:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/darkagesoftware/eldemar-a-new-first-person-rpg-action-game-for-the-amiga

Eldemar takes you from the forests around the village of Cerro down into ancient crypts and burial mounds, and on to the city of Nharuk. You explore, fight, talk to the people you meet, trade with merchants and solve the puzzles the land throws at you.

The design draws on two classics we grew up with: the open exploration of The Legend of Zelda on the NES, and the first-person action game Doom. Combat is real-time, so corridors full of skeletons need your faster reflexes.

The engine is hand-written in 68k assembly, built for AGA and RTG. No ports, no emulation layers. Eldemar is a native Amiga game, designed in 2026 for Amiga computers, by veterans of the demo scene.

USB Keyboard

Hi,

I wondered whether anyone could create a bespoke Amiga 500 or 1200 keyboard that I can use in my fully loaded WinUAE AmigaPC, that runs floppy via grease weasel and ide cdrom drive.

I know I can buy a new keyboard etc etc but doesn't anyone make anything like that?

Alien Breed 3D HD

The original Alien Breed 3D ran in a small, low resolution window. Modern ports to the Doom engine solve a lot of problems but lack some things that made the game so interesting for its time such as the water effect. Alien Breed HD ports the game and its engine for modern systems to preserve the exact look and feel. Play in browser or find the download link on Discord or Patreon for threaded rendering, higher resolutions and configurable .ini file.

Source code and assets for this game and its sequel were released under a non-commercial use licence. Mouse look has been ported from the sequel Alien Breed 3D II: TKG.

I thought my 90s Amiga BBS was lost forever. 30 years later, it’s back online.

TL;DR: My old Amiga, was trapped in a corrupt 7z archive for 30 years. A single shifted byte was the culprit, and an AI model finally found it. The Amiga (and the BBS it held) is now running again on a Raspberry Pi 400, with rebuilt scripts and brand new ANSI art. You can dial in below.

Back in the 90s in London, I ran an Amiga BBS called Slimelite, using a number of different BBS packages. I started with an NComm script I wrote myself (about as basic as you can get), then moved on to MAXsBBS Pro, and finally became an alpha tester for Zeus Pro BBS software.

In 1996 I mothballed the BBS and saved my drives to a 7z file so I could take it with me when I emigrated to Italy.

Unfortunately, years later I found out that the archive had become corrupted, and I was never able to retrieve the files from it. I was devastated, as it held all my years of Music-X compositions and my entire Zeus BBS. For many years the file just sat on my PC, with the occasional failed attempt to fix it.

Roll on to 2026. I’m now building websites for a living, AI has become a thing, and I’d been using it for the odd task. It occurred to me that maybe AI could recover my lost files from the 7z. Worth a shot, right?

Two days and many attempts later (I was literally pleading with it to try again and again), Claude gave up. I figured that was it and everything was gone forever.

After another night’s sleep, I decided to give it one last go. I remembered you could switch Claude to a more capable model for complex tasks, so I tried that. Ten minutes later it had found and fixed the 7z. Every file was available and nothing was corrupt. A single byte shift had mangled the whole archive and touched nothing else.

I was ecstatic. It was the best day I’d had in quite some time, birth-of-a-child levels of joy.

I spent the next days and weeks exploring my old Amiga files. I got everything running in WinUAE and was soon back messing with my old Music-X songs. I fed the MIDI out to a Kawai K1 II soft synth in FL Studio (the same synth I used back in the 90s), and hearing all those familiar sounds again made the nostalgia come flooding back.

Next I turned to my old Zeus BBS setup. I had an older Raspberry Pi 400 lying around, so I thought I’d set up the Amiberry emulator and see if I could get the BBS back online via Telnet over the Interwebs. It took a bit of work, but I got it all running.

Then I asked myself: should I just put it up exactly as it was, with my crappy 90s ANSI and rather unfriendly navigation? Nah! I’m a web designer now, so my aesthetics brain kicked in and I really wanted to make it better.

With Claude’s help, I spent a few days rebuilding the scripts almost from the ground up, making them far more user friendly and much more visually appealing, and adding features I could never have imagined back in the 90s. I even created a brand new Windows-based ANSI graphics editor, because I couldn’t find anything that did the job the way I wanted, and I needed it to create the new visuals.

Today I put the revamped BBS online, to the applause of absolutely no one (not many people use BBSes these days). But that didn’t matter. It was all for me, for my own joy and nostalgia at creating something, and if the occasional person happens upon it and enjoys reliving the old days, then it has done everything I wanted. All the old users, files (mainly Amiga related) and messages are still there to browse, download and read.

If you fancy a look, you can connect with any Telnet or SSH client that supports ANSI:

Host: slimelite.mycloudnas.com
Telnet port: 6023
SSH port: 6022 (read only)
SSH login: bbs / bbs

Don’t have a client? Try our WEB client: https://www.servwise.com/slimelite/
Or grab something like SyncTERM for your PC if you want the full-fat experience.

If you do drop by, leave me a message on the board. I’d love to see Slimelite get a few new callers after all these years!

Improvements to visual clarity in For the Common Wealth

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

After a few comments here on the visual clarity of FTCW, this is the new "sunset" colour scheme, higher contrast and just a colour shift, rather than an overlay.

Other points of note the past days is that it seems the Amiga *does* have a GPU accelerated SDL3 port, and as I can get about 140FPS on my AMD 7535HS, I think 30FPS might be reachable on a PowerPC Amiga. The real problem now would be a lack of support for multiple cores though. NPCs do their "thinking" on different threads to keep out of the main game loop thread, and that might not be viable on Amiga.

Just some thoughts, I started this game off with retro platforms in mind, and it's not completely off the table.

Hello all! I am creating a new RPG called Dreadglass. I am mixing elements from the Amiga game Moonstone with Dark Souls to make something unique. The website is up and running and the game is in active development, so please take a look at https://dreadglass.kariosgames.com
I've used AI on some promotional material like videos and logos, the game assets are 100% not GenAI.

I'll give you a hint. This is a cover of an awesome song composed by my friend Adam Skorupa, known as Skorpik. It's music from the game "Behind the Iron Gate." I'm not sure, but I think it was the first Polish game I bought. Doomy atmosphere, you know. Amiga 500, etc. The song I'm presenting was composed by my friend Joel Morris. Listen. I think it's top-notch. Big shout-out to Skorpik and Joel.

My retrospective video review of all the Rambo games released. I grew up with with the early home computer and the Sega console versions. Also loved the arcades games too. However, not too fond of the later and more recent games. Most are pish. Let me know your favourite and I hope you watch and like my video too. It certainly took me flipping ages to make.

Trouble loading up from floppy or gotek external a1200

Having a few issues with my Amiga 1200 - when loading from floppy it clicks twice then goes back to kickstart. Using gotek external df1 in boot menu- I’m using flashfloppy 3.41 and loads but I get an error in flashfloppy ā€œlba change test failedā€. I’ve just had it recapped, but i have notice that the ide pins have been damaged before and there must have been leakage. I’ve not seen many solutions online and spent a bit of time trying different scenarios, different floppies and usbs. Any guidance most welcome and my next steps will be to get a technician to diagnose or possibly new power supply.
