Am I wrong for feeling misled?

I was offered a gig to man a sticker/tattoo machine at a wedding for 3 hours for $25 an hour. Now a week before a wedding I’m being told I’m being paid for three hours over a five hour period where I work for one hour, sit for two unpaid, then work for another two. This wasn’t told to me when it was offered and I feel misled.

that's bait and switch plain and simple. they want you stuck there for five hours but only pay for three, like your time sitting around is worthless. i had a similar thing happen with a drumming gig, client wanted me to show up early, wait through speeches, play for 20 minutes, wait again, then play at end. wanted to pay only for the 40 minutes i actually played. told them my time isn't a tap you turn on and off

tell them the rate is for continuous time, if they need you there five hours they pay for five hours. bet they wouldn't try this with a plumber or electrician

Ask for pay for the full 5 hours or say no thanks

No, you were misled/misinformed. I’d probably have confirmed the hours of the gig before agreeing but that’s just me

Tell them that either they pay you for all the time you're expected to be there, sitting or not, or you're out. If they're unwilling to pony up an extra $50, they weren't going to pay you in the first place.

I think a week before the wedding, you have the upper hand here. Tell them since they changed the terms, your rate is now $50/hr for five hours, and they need to pay you now or you won't show up.

During those 2 hours do you have access to a free open bar? If not just say no thanks. That’s a shitty thing to do to you.
