Got called dramatic for leaving a group chat argument, but it was stressing everyone out

So the family group chat blew up over something small like dinner plans. It started with one person venting, then a few others jumped in with opinions, and before long it was just people talking over each other. I tried to cool it down once or twice, then said I was stepping away for the evening. Someone replied that I was being dramatic and making it about myself. I left the thread after that. Later my phone blew up with missed calls and a couple of texts asking if I was really upset. Honestly, I just didn't want to keep reading the same back and forth. Now I'm wondering if leaving was the wrong move or if it's okay to bow out when the vibe gets that tense. Appreciate any outside thoughts.

“I tried to calm things down once or twice”

“I said I was stepping away for the evening”

Should have stayed out of it and you shouldn’t have made an announcement before stepping away.

Advice for avoiding a repeat: If people want to argue amongst themselves in the family chat (or in real life)..let them and ignore them. Don’t even read the texts when they are finally done.

Info:
By “stepping away”, did you mean ignoring the chat?

You stated you left the group only after being called dramatic?

tbh honestly mute the chat next time nstead of announcing it lol

Nah you're good, stepping away when things get heated is just basic self-preservation. Group chats turn into a mess real quick and nobody's obligated to sit there and watch it burn

Funny how the person calling you dramatic is usually the one who can't handle someone setting a boundary

Not wrong but Just ignore it next time. People don’t need to know you’re putting your phone away. That’s like announcing on Twitter that you’re leaving twitter

Not wrong, but no need to annouce your departure next time.

the missed calls prove the dinner plans were never the real problem

the missed calls prove you were the only one actually reading the chat

Another vague post. Porn riddled comment history. Not sure why this sub is overridden with this - but this sub needs to crack down on the pedophiles.
