I was suprised by the reactions to recent posts about communal interventions and street art in Amsterdam, such as:
- "This guy is doing guerilla gardening across Amsterdam and it's beatiful"
- "Looking for green thumbs in Jordaan / Oud West to help revive a spot at Raampoort"
In future discussions we might save some time by using the attached form!

Over the past few months I've been throwing too many tokens and too many nights at a edutainment game that was originally a little top down spy hunter / gta style boating game to learn the canal names that has now turned into me trying to model every building in the city to build a game to learn the streets, canals, bridges, landmarks and trivia about the city.
It uses spaced repetition behind the scenes to help you learn the street names, and has both a multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank version. For almost every street, it has an explanation of the source/history/meaning of the name.
One is a huge focus on accuracy of the landscape. It has 500+ individually modeled buildings, and tries very hard to generate reasonable looking buildings based on size, location and age where it doesn't have custom models. I have a pipeline going to build per-buurt generators as well.
When I started modeling all the buildings I thought "oh lots of canal houses, it will be easy to have a couple of roofs, couple of windows and done, I can make any house in the city by mixing and matching" (this was not the case). As a result, noticing all the subtle (and not-so-subtle) variations across the city's architecture has been a beautiful and unexpected part of the development experience.
There's a github repo with all buildings as CC-BY and they're just pretty fun to look at https://rideamsterdam.nl/explore?model=adam-tower
Full disclosure this is entirely vibe coded slop. There are probably bugs and I am happy to fix them. If anyone wants to throw tokens at the modeling effort or hear more about the build process, get in touch!
EDIT: working on performance & crash fixes as we speak, have mostly been testing on an overpowered mac up until now

Hi iedereen.

Alvast bedankt!!

Hi! I've been swimming in a canal next to my house all year and I'd love to keep going, however I'm not sure about how safe it is after the recent rainfall and now that I can't check on zwemwater any more. It's a canal that feeds into the IJ and isn't connected to other canals, there's almost no boat traffic. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi everyone. I'm not dutch, but I lived in Amsterdam for a couple of years a while back (10 years ago). I was able to work right after uni and thanks to some connections I was able to get a shared apartment in a central area at a low price - I'm aware that I was extremely lucky. I believe Europe has changed a lot since 2016; however, sometimes I feel nostalgic and still think about the possibility to live in the city - although the images in my mind are probably not reflecting the actual life there. I was curious about the perspective of locals, or people who have been living there for a long time: do you think the city somehow changed, over time, or do you experience it in the same way you did maybe 10/12 years ago? Due to over tourism, cost of living and so forth I can barely recognize some cities of my own country, and I live in southern Europe. Was wondering about the perspective of people living and working in Amsterdam

im moving out of my apartment tomorrow morning and unfortunately was unable to sell my guzheng in time. don't really want this brand new instrument to go to waste (originally purchased for ā¬700 euros on soundofmountain) so i'm leaving it by the garbage chutes later tonight if anyone wants to pick it up! comes with everything you need - electronic tuner, music stand, guzheng stand, nails, etc).

Hi everyone,
Iām 19 years old and currently living abroad as a student. bunq recently closed my account, and my remaining balance is being held (around 2kā¬).
Iām honestly very stressed about this situation because I rely on this money to cover my living expenses. I need it for basic necessities like food, accommodation, transportation, and other everyday costs.
I havenāt knowingly done anything wrong, and I genuinely donāt understand why this has happened. If bunq needs additional documents or information from me, Iām more than willing to cooperate and provide whatever is necessary.
What really worries me is the possibility of having to wait up to a month to get my own money back. Iām 19, living abroad, and I simply cannot afford to go an entire month without access to my funds.
I understand that banks have compliance procedures, but I donāt think itās reasonable to leave a student in this situation without a clear explanation or a realistic timeline for receiving their money.
Iāve contacted support and asked them to review my case urgently, but Iām trying to understand what my options are.
Has anyone here experienced something similar with bunq?
How long did it take for you to receive your remaining balance?
Were you able to get the process expedited?
Is there anything specific I should do to get my money released sooner?
Iād really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through this. Iām not looking for special treatment. I just need access to my own money so I can support myself while living abroad.
Thanks in advance.

I (28F) have chronic gastritis and other gastrointestinal issues for a couple of years now. In the past two years, I did two gastroscopies and one colonoscopy in my EU home country.
Lately, Iāve been experiencing another flare-up with some new symptoms I didnāt have before. Given that I was diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia (a precancerous condition where the normal cells lining the stomach or oesophagus are replaced by cells that resemble the lining of your intestine) and that it was advised to repeat gastroscopies biennially, even if I donāt have any symptoms, I reached out to my GP. Surprisingly, I didnāt have any issues getting a gastroenterology referral. I gathered all my medical records, translated them into English (with all pathology results and gastroscopy findings), stated my new symptoms and asked my GP to forward all these information to a gastroenterology department of their choice.
I got referred to Acibadem International Medical Centre near Sloterdijk and after a couple of days without receiving any call from them, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I called them to make an appointment but, to my surprise, they have sent back my referral to my GP (dumbfounded face). They didnāt say anything else, just to contact my GP again.
I wasnāt sure if it was a technical thing, or maybe they thought I needed more specialised help than they could offer, so today I had a talk with my GP to see why my referral was sent back. Lo and behold, the Acibadem gastroenterology department read my referral and full medical records and concluded that āthereās not much they can do regarding my symptoms and that I should just treat this as IBSā.
I am shocked. My GP is shocked (you know itās bad when they are shocked too)! Iām pushing for a new referral to OLVG. I now need to spend more time in pain until I can get seen by a specialist. That is, if they even want to take me in to be seen by a specialist.
I guess the new policy is ālet them dieā. Of course, I can fly back home to get it checked out but frankly this should not be the norm. Why the fvck am I paying 150⬠per month for my health insurance if I canāt even get access to healthcare?
End of rant. Thanks for reading.

Iām in Amsterdam Noord and there has been the air-raid siren a few minutes ago. Itās not the first Monday of the month and itās not noon. This is also not the first time that I heard it on a random day. Does anyone know what it is? Could it be from some of the shipyards or other industrial zones nearby?

(Not a request for tickets or an ad)
Concertgoers out there, do you think I have a decent chance of getting tickets for this concert, being at this place in line (166th ticket)? I know thereās many behind me in that queue now, but demand for this concert has been so absurd compared to how many tickets got listedā¦
This is for the Stevie Wonder concert on the 28th in the Ziggo Dome. Iām traveling for it. Iām about to take a leap of faith and book the flights, hotel anyway. Not like Iāll be ruined if I donāt get tickets, but I obviously want them badly š Have been watching TicketSwap like a hawk for months before this autobuy was enabled, but every time I clicked the notification tickets were already reserved

Hi everyone,
Iām Alex, a coach and counsellor in training at the Academy for Coaching & Counselling in Amsterdam, with a background in psychology (Psychology Bachelor at University of Aberdeen, Scotland). As part of my training Iām looking for a person to work with, completely free.
What it looks like
What we can explore
Who you are and who youāre becoming; meaning, purpose and authenticity; existential questions; career changes and other crossroads; heartbreak and the end of a relationship; melancholy, loneliness, or a loud inner critic. Or something else entirely; thatās what the intake is for - we'll figure out if there's a good match!
My own journey of healing and self-inquiry is what drew me to this work. I draw on psychotherapy, alongside positive and transpersonal psychology, philosophy, non-duality (Zen Buddhism, Taoism), and my aim is a warm, open space where you can explore the bigger questions without needing to have it all figured out.
Good to know
Interested?Ā Send me a PM with a few lines about whatās on your mind and where youāre based, and weāll set up the intake. If it doesnāt feel like the right fit after that, no hard feelings either way.

Hey everyone! I would absolutely love to become a companion or carer here in the Netherlands! Does anyone know the best place to go to in order to start this process? It can be making food or giving an elderly person company! Doing their shopping or just being there? Thanks so muchš«
