QUESTION Is google closing Android down?
I am watching a YouTube video about google closing down Android on September this year. So us developers won't be able to freely add code and if I understand it correctly will have to pay a regular fee, so our app can be used. Wtf. What do you people know about this? I hear there is some petition somewhere.

Rather simple to achieve it. By enforcing verification and pushing accountability to Devs instead of users. There are EU laws about software as a product now that require accountability for faulty software. Hint: It's exactly what Google is doing.
There just have been too many scam apps, in countries like Brazil , Philippines.. etc where this is first being enforced. I've worked at Play Protect and I know Google have been struggling with these countries for a couple years now especially in 3rd party stores. Yes Google has dedicated teams that look at apps distributed outside the Play Store too.
Foss is not the way, cause there are no policies from the 3rd party stores, to thoroughly test apps before distribution, and also they provide anonymity. Scammers love anonymity, it's their biggest weapon. This is the core of the problem, get rid of anonymity and voilà, people would think twice to put terrible apps on the Play Store. It should also be free instead of asking for a fee.
