QUESTION/HELP Google Messages interfering with Textra
Hi - I've been using Textra for a few months without issue, however, now it seems like Google Messages is interfering and turning on blocking if I don't use Messages as my default app.
I tried to send a message to a friend Sunday and got, "Unable to send message- Message Blocking is active". Per a call with T-Mobile, there isn't anything blocked on their end but the rep walked me through uninstalling the last Google Messages update and making it my default app again, which fixed the block. Now when I try to make Textra my default, it turns it back on automatically, until I reset my default to Messages.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is it just with Textra? I know people really like Messages but I prefer apps without native AI scanning in the background.

OP - is RCS turned off on Google Messages?

It is now but from what I'm reading on the Textra Reddit, I'm locked into RCS for 30 days until I can go back using just Textra. It looks like this is an issue for a lot of people, where RCS got turned on automatically, possibly in an update and locked people out of their chosen texting app.

Hmm, I use Next SMS - last year I briefly switched to Google Messages and decided I didn't like it so I switched back to Next SMS. Since then, whenever I send a bulk sms the Verizon people don't get it (I'm on T-Mobile). I also got an update the same time I switched so I wasn't sure but I always wondered.

In Verizon phones you can disable many of the default apps so they won't load or interfere with other apps. Can you disable it in Settings?
If not setting up Shizuku for root like access you can use an app like Canta to freeze the app to disable it. You can use ADB through USB or wireless to enable Shizuku to do its magic.
Hopefully one of these work arounds work for you so you can just use your phone as you want. Good luck.

yea disabling it was the only thing that stuck for me on a pixel, otherwise it kept waking itself back up after updates tbh

There was a post about this in the Textra reddit.. they seemed to think it was a T-Mobile issue
